Ugh...I think I have yet to crack the code for sprints
(and may never do so
)! It just seems like I can never put a strong bike and run together at that distance--I had the top run in the field the years my bike was 30th and 29th
(guess I was consistent, if nothing else
) and placed 9th and 4th overall, respectively, and 4th and 2nd in my AG. But every year that my bike has cracked the top 20
(15th, 14th, and now 5th
), I have had a crappy run, and placed no higher than 6th
(and always 2nd AG
). Go figure.
I think in this case it may also be a matter of training and general fatigue--our pool hours have changed and I've ended up having to do some runs, including hard ones, in afternoon heat well into the 90's, instead of at 5:XX AM, They were taking a lot out of me along with moving and work-related craziness last week, and I don't think I took it easy enough Friday and Saturday to fully recover. My legs felt dead when I did a short run on Saturday, on the warmup, and in T1 and T2. I never hold anything back on a sprint--guess I just paid the price when there really wasn't anything left after the bike.
Anyway, today just easy recovery stuff:
6 AM: 50 minute trainer ride, all Z1 and low Z2
(supposed to be AM swim but it started storming when I walked out the door, so quick workout switch
)
3:20 PM: 3000m of swimming, crammed into 1/2 of lane 1 during the little kids' practice. A HS swimmer, one of my former students, who also got stormed split the lane with me.
Sigh... really sick of the whole pool/lifeguard situation and the havoc it is playing with my training, racing, and life in general! Plus now it is rainy season again so have lightning closures to deal with. I need a lake like yours where I can do naked cannonballs!
