Subject: our dog really will eat ANYTHING
this afternoon i had the wonderful chore of cleaning up our backyard. with the mild weather in november, i had a head start on the winter's worth of dog doo doo...but there was still plenty back there. since the weather will be warm and wet, i wanted to get it up while it was still frozen. i realized in the process that greta really will eat ANYTHING. here are some of the things she's eaten this winter:

+ crayons. lots and lots of crayons of all different colors

+ as many carrots as crayons (either that, or she has a taste for orange crayons)

+ pine nuts (what the hell? who gave her pine nuts? those are expensive!!!)

and last but not least:

+ magnetic poetry. the word? "will"

If you're finding pine nuts in your doggie doo doo, you're probably examining it too closely.

i have two kids under the age of 6 who have a problem putting crayons away. there's aways one or two that rolled under their art table. greta eats them when she's bored and frutsrated...like one of those corn starch chews, only resulting in day-glo poop.

When I was a kid, our bassett hound ate an entire month of my mom's NutriSystem meals. Another time, he ate a bag of raw potatoes. He also liked to pick green beans off of the vine from my dad's garden and eat them.

And if you gave him a tomato, he'd bark at it for hours.

I get to do the same thing today, Autumn, though my wife said she'd even "consider offering sexual favors" if I poop scooped the yard.  Laughing  Notice how non-committal that statement is.  Undecided

My dog enjoys dryer sheets and poop but thats about it.

My friend's Aussie takes the cake, however.  It really would eat ANYTHING and once took down a 5 pound bag of tile grout.  It lived, too.

I hear ya, a job that needs to be done and I am so not looking forward to taking care of it. At least yours is frozen Our dog doesn't eat as much anymore (as she's gotten older) but still eats random stuff. A sample: remotes, too many sippy cups to count, a whole bag of Twizzlers, any kind of candy wrapper she finds, crayons, cat poop (when she gets to it, it's gated off but a couple of times she's slipped in), flip-flops; I could go on.....it must be something with the types of breeds. What kind of dog do you have? Mine is a golden retriever mix and when I was little we had also had a bassett hound and it ate everything.

Part of my job at work is to report any strange "outcomings" from dogs to the owner. Weirdest thing ever: a blue 4x2 lego block. I told the owner and she didn't even seem phased.

Did the hound lose any weight with all that NutriSystem packed in?

Let's just say he was no Dan Marino.

I think our Border Collie knows your dog, Autumn...along with the healthy dog food we feed him for b'fast/dinner, ours likes:

  • crayons (too)
  • plumbers putty
  • GU
  • those small, sticky, rubber things that kids can "stick" to a car window or mirror or whatever...
  • when the kids were younger, Little People people
  • and in the TMI dept, ours once ate a c0nd0m (couldn't believe it when I saw it while mowing last year, half sticking out of a doodie - told my wife and she about fainted)

The dog I used to sit would drag any kind of paper product out of the trash can and eat it within seconds.  The problem is that he was a Maltese and the only trash can he could get into was in the bathroom.  Think about it.  Sanitary napkins and whatnot.  Ew.

Made for weird all white poops which were kinda freaky.

My friends dogs did that too, so I got garbage cans with lids before I my dog had a chance.  I'm glad too because she tends to eat everything,  this morning on our walk she picked up a chicken bone, leaves, and poop, and at doggie daycare a few months ago she ate plastic wrap, a green crayon, some doll hair, and a tennis ball.

When we first got our dog we picked him up right off the street.

You could tell he was eating like he didn't know when he would get another meal.

My Favorite was when my roomie put out a 5 pound block of frozen chicken breasts bone in to defrost.  I came downstairs about ten minutes later and all i saw was a two square inch peice of yellow styrofome that the chicken was packed in.

Felt bud's belly and it was ice cold.  He had eaten a rock solid 5 pound block of frozen chicken and bones in about 2 minutes.
