I'm wondering if there is a correlation between affinity for triathloning (and being on triathloning blogs/forums) and personality type.

If you know your personality type, select it. If you don't know, here's a 70 question quiz to help you determine: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

This link describes what the types are about: http://www.myersbriggs.org/my%2Dmbti%2Dpersonality%2Dtype/mbti%2Dba... If you scroll down, there is a chart with basic descriptions of the 16 types.

My hypothesis wiill be that I/E S T J is the most dominant type.

My wife did one of these as part of her HR classes and I went ahead and did it for fun as well. I recall the word "thinker" being in my category. I don't remember all the letters, but I recall my wife saying I fit the pattern of a geek, which is true.

Duh, just did the little personality test and came with the INTJ (Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging), which sounds familiar. I'm headed toward the right career path. They listed corporate attorney (as opposed to tria attorney) as a good career, and I'm working on being a tax attorney which is even geekier.

ISTJ Inpector Guardian

Inspector Guardians look carefully and thoroughly at the people and institutions around them. Making up perhaps as much as ten percent of the general population, Inspectors are characterized by decisiveness in practical affairs, are the guardians of institutions, and if only one adjective could be selected, "superdependable" would best describe them. Whether at home or at work, Inspectors are nothing if not dependable, particularly when it comes to examining the people and products they are responsible for-quietly seeing to it that uniform quality is maintained, and that those around them uphold certain standards of attitude and conduct.

I'd say the opening paragraph is pretty accurate.  Especially the last sentence.  I can get quite annoying at work trying to get everyone to keep up with high standards.  LOL!  Anyway, kind of interesting, but I really don't think about these things too much.

We have a very high percentage of NT's so far! 15 out of 27 (or over 50%) have voted as one of the NT types. This is notable because NT's only make up about 10% of the general population. The NT group is called the Rationals group.

Here's a description from wiki:

"Rationals are introspective and pragmatic.... Rationals seek mastery and self-control and are concerned with their own knowledge and competence. Their greatest strength is strategic intelligence. They excel in any kind of logical investigation such as engineering, conceptualizing, theorizing, and coordinating."

in 1991 (undergrad) I was ENFP.

Now I'm ENFJ.

I'm pretty sure that I don't have an ideal personality for triathlons.

ENTJ:

Frank, decisive, assume leadership readily. Quickly see illogical and inefficient procedures and policies, develop and implement comprehensive systems to solve organizational problems. Enjoy long-term planning and goal setting. Usually well informed, well read, enjoy expanding their knowledge and passing it on to others. Forceful in presenting their ideas.

That's me in spades...

I used to be an ENFP, then an INFP now I am an INTJ ... I think they nailed it though:

"The Portrait of the Mastermind"

Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, Masterminds are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, Masterminds approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity.

INFJ, but I don't think the descrption is all that accurate.

I'm a prototypical Capricorn, but also a writer, which basically makes me a sympathetic jag (geez, i didn't think pr*** was a potty word.)

INTJ.

Interesting. One description says less than 1% of the population is INTJ, but so far the majority of respondents here are INTJ. Hmm.

Wiki said 2% of pop. is INTJ. I think it is a rarer type, so I am finding it interesting too, to have so many INTJ's in one place. I think there are a few things that could contribute to this:

- more triathletes are male, and INTJs often tend to be male
- INTJ's tend to work in engineering / tech, which pays well; triathlon is an expensive sport
- we're on a forum (a lot of highly sociable people don't need forums to discuss there triathlon needs?). Forums and geeky/techy types go together?

But there isn't enough data to really say for srue of course. Just my initial thoughts, based off of the results so far.

INTJ...have been forever (even the first time I took it in high school)  Some times the T comes pretty close to being an F, but the T normally comes to the surface.

oh another one: maybe INTJ's are slightly more likely than other types to know/be interested in what personality type they fit into.
