Who'd be up for a weight loss challenge? (Suggested by madkat)

I think it would be cool to do this as a group, maybe say to the end of the year? December 31? That's a Friday, so we could start this Friday with a Weekly Loss Challenge Thread and share how we're doing.

Start at 0 right now, or whenever your last weigh-in was, post every week how the weight loss is going on Friday.

Finish Date for this Challenge: December 31.

I'm in, who else is?

I'm in. I've been stuck in the mid 160's for a while and really want to break 160 followed by maintaining in the low 150's.

Now excuse me while I go have one last bowl of Peanut Butter cup ice cream.

Ha ha ha! I'm sitting here downloading recipes for muffins! I'm *trying* to at least get some bran in the recipe so I can call it "breakfast". Mmmm... banana bran muffins with peanut butter and chocolate chips?

ok, I'm in.  I was 215 last december and seem to be stuck at 180.  I'd like to be under 150 by the end of the year, even if it means not racing as an Athena next year

Sounds great. Maybe this is the motivation that I need to take off the 40+ lbs that marriage put on. That is the problem with marrying a girl that cooks really really good. I tell her it is her fault, but she doesn't believe me :)

I like cadreamer's suggestion of checking in once a week. I don't have a problem telling everyone my current weight (160), but other's might, so we can just report in a net change from the previous week, or a net change overall. Which do you all think would be easier? A weekly change might look something like this:

week 1: weighed in at 157, so -3 pounds.
week 2: weighed in at 156, so -1 pound.

That might get confusing after a while. An overall change would look like this:

week 1: weighed in at 157, -3 pounds from start
week 2: weighed in at 156, -4 pounds from start

For me, a realistic goal for Dec 31 is 15 pounds. I'd be over-joyed to weigh in at 145 on my birthday-eve!

Any other suggestions, y'all?

sounds great, can i join? im too embarrased about my wt now, dont want to say...

but maybe this is a good format..there was another challenge recently on this site which i tried and it worked really really well! pls view, it is a great format and a daily journal helped alot! the team format as well was very helpful... we could log miles ridden, swim distances or run distances as well...

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=265014

  • ..this tri challenge could also add starting stats like, wt, gender, height, goal weight, starting bodyfat and even circumference measurements...

In order to get things moving, I suggest that the creator of this thread, Shellee, decide the format/rules etc.

I'd like to drop another 10. At the very least, not put on any over the winter like last year.

Yeah, I'm volunteering to be in charge of this insanity.

    Here's what we'll do.

You may or may not post your weight. I understand that some people don't want to and that's fine.

    So:

For those not wanting to post their weight just put pounds lost, don't put the weight:
Week 1 - Starting weight, x pounds gone (and you can put .25 if that's what you lost, or 0, whatever), current weight

Week 2 and all following weeks:
    Week 2 - like above
From start: Starting weight, pounds lost so far, ending weight

We could add circumference, and add in total inches lost, I'd think waist, hip and chest. That's optional.
It'd be fun to track exercise too, just generally, I'll come up with a format, this is optional too, cause the thing we're really focusing on is the weight loss, even though we know not to live and die by the scale - right??

I'll probably add a trivia question or two - just to keep people interested.

I'll start off the thread every Friday - then it's up to you to jump in and post your results...

Week 1 and counting, 17 weeks to GO!

As I sit here munching on M&M's....

Count me in. I did a challenge last year with my four sisters. It really worked for me, but they sort of dropped out after a while.

When is the first official weigh in?

Count me in too. I'm so stuck. I decided this weekend with the hurricane, just in case we got blown away, to bake 4 dozen cookies (peanut butter, chocolate chip, sugar) and 2 dozen brownies. The kids were thrilled and it gave us something to do (baking that is) before we lost power. While we didn't have power, it was good munching. I lost 2 pounds!!! It's not fair!! I eat healthy and exercise and I gain, I don't exercise, and eat junk and I lose. URGH!!!!

I like the inches lost format too. It's helpful in seeing change even if it isn't on that dreadful scale!!

    Thanks for putting this together!!!

I'm in. I started on the zone, plus training last week, and it has already started paying off, but a way to track it with others will help.
