I just wondered if anyone else was going to Penticton to watch/cheer/sign up.  I know there have been a few races that we have tried to hook up and meet.  I wonder if this might be another opportunity to meet fellow B.C. BT'rs.

I'll be there cheering on friends and standing in line monday AM, it'd be cool meeting other BT'ers.  We could get a shot of some of the NorthWest Chapter!

Fantastic!  Looks like a few of us will be there.  Maybe we could set up a meeting?  Or...we could meet in line on Monday   Oh god, I think that I just committed myself to signing up *gulp*

Ultramike, you will have to let us know what your number is.  I don't want to miss cheering you on!

I'll be there too - heading up late Saturday to Naramata then we'll zip over to watch the race and get the scoop on signing up then (ack) lining up for Monday.

Anybody know the details on when people normally start to line up?  Is it like in the "olden days" of concerts where you lined up outside the box office over night?

We should defnintely try to connect on Sunday.

Last year people started lining up at noon on Sunday.  But really most of them just stuck lawn chairs in a line, and went and watched the race.  It wasn't until around 9pm that people really started guarding their spots.

By the time registration started, the line extended all the way from the Expo area to the Penticton Yacht Club.

It turned out that everyone who lined up got in, so it really wasn't necessary to line up that early.

I was wondering the same thing.  But I didn't think that you would have to line up THAT early   I wonder if that had anything to do with this year's race being the 25th anniversary?  Geez, we could have a "line up" party.

Still, I'll let you know what I'm wearing so you can find me and you guys can sneak in line with me, us North West BT'ers should stick together (might cost you a cup of coffee though!)  Can't wait to get up there to see this race!  Very excited!

What time are you planning on getting in the line up?  Now I'm starting to freak out about not getting in, never mind the nauseous feeling about actually doing it.  Next year is now or never for me.

Van, I think you are ready!!!  I agree with busygirl's thought, no time like the present!  You have a year, that is a lot of time!  Busy, I am thinking about getting in line around midnight to 4am.  Is your husband racing this year?  Don't worry about getting a spot, everyone I've talked to from last years sign up got in, even the late comers.  Still...I want to sign up and get outta town early and get back home.  I'll give you guys my number closer to the date so we can meet up.  By the way Van, good luck on the run this weekend!!

Van, I think you are ready too.  That being said...no pressure.  This is a big decision that should be based on how YOU feel about things and not what we all want

Haz, try as I might I can't get Darren interested in triathlons.  He loves to go and watch and be a part of it in that respect but he says that there is "just too much stuff" involved in triathlon racing.  He loves the "purity" of running.  I think it's 'cause of his short attention span   tee hee  He specializes in the 800m and 1500m (track).

We should definitely exchange numbers.  Maybe we should share "mug shots" so that we all know what one another looks like.  I'll be the one walking around paper in hand asking "have you seen these people??"

Last year we didn't even have to pay at the registration.   We just filled out a form with our Name, Email, Phone Number, Birth Date, and Sex. (I have it taped to the wall at my desk here  ) We showed our ID, and we were given a confirmation number.  About 2 weeks later we registered on Active.com, and paid $511.00 US on our credit card ($490 + $21 processing fee)

If its the same procedure this year, I might register again at the athlete registration on Saturday just in case I totally bomb this year's race.  But I kinda promised my fiance I would take next year off and focus on getting a few other things in order before I do another Ironman.  Sealed

Ahhhh I'm so torn whether I'm going to sign up for next year.

The original plan was to just do Half-Iron distances all next season (with some olympics thrown in), and wait until 2009 to do Ironman.
But I realized I can still do quite a few Half-Iron races before IMC, and not hinder my training for Ironman too much.

Anybody have any advice? I really want to do it, but I want to do as many half-irons as I can next summer! Is this realistic?

And GOOD LUCK MIKE!!! You will do awesome judging by your training logs!! I hope you are enjoying the beginning of your taper!! I hope everything is going well!

Oh man are you guys tempting me!!! AHHhHH!!!

Derek - I know exactly what you're saying! Is there some kind of help group or something to aid in these decisions???

Mike - Good luck in IMC!! It's gotta be exciting being in the 25th anniversary event! How are you feeling for it?

I'm heading up to shoot photos of the race then sign up for next year, so far i know at least 3 ironman virgins from Whistler signing up, so it does sound like it might be alot of people signing up.

Last year, they changed the way the sign up happens, in that they allow the people actually racing on Sunday sign up on Saturday, then on Monday they open it up to other people, When they announced this there was alot of concern that people would not get in on Monday. They assured everyone that if you show up on Monday to sign up, there would be a spot for you. They even mentioned that if they had to they would start the race in 2 waves, ( in case they had 3000 people sign up). In the end, the number of people that signed up was on par with previous years.

I have not heard officially, but i am sure they are doing it the same this year, in that everybody who is in line to sign up on the Monday will get in.

So you really do not have to wait in line over night! Although i did it in 2005 when i signed up and it was quite fun, and a great way to start your ironman journey.

Thanks!  I admit, I'm starting to get a bit nervous.  OK, its all I can think about.  But I have faith in my training and my race plan, and I think its gonna be a good day. (as long as its not 37 degrees)

Mike, since you are the one racing (wicked )  we should ask what would work for you.  Are you planning on a last splash in the lake on Saturday?

At any rate, we could all plan to meet up in line on Monday and have a party/support one another/group therapy session

Cheers,

Heather
