JeepFleeb - 2008-09-27 5:52 PM I'm sure Keith could find a shady spot at the lake and a bucket of ice cubes if we really tried to convince him.

NOOOOOOOOO!  Wetsuits are the DEVIL.

SO happy it sounds like they won't be allowed....whew.

Seriously, like someone said, unless the ice age hits Austin this next week...no wetsuits, I bet there won't even be an option for it.  Sure, temps here have cooled to where the highs are upper 80's and about 90 degrees...but when it was mid-90's beginning of Sept that water was literally 90 degrees in the lake and was the WARMEST water ever...even if you had the option, I wouldn't suggest it, major overheating, it's bound to be mid to upper 80's in the water.

I am hoping for cooler water temps - the overnight lows next week are supposed to be 59-61 which could drop the temp some. Last week I got the suit out for the first time in 2yrs and swam 2000 yds in an outdoor pool at noon in Houston and felt fine. I am not a great swimmer so I sure like the comfort of the added buoyancy! Also, I rode the course last week and was a little concerned over the road surface... felt a little beaten up.

First time at Longhorn. Very excited for next weekend.

If there wasn't a power plant dumping heat into the lake, you might be right.

Doesn't the Army force it upon you?  I am hoping by getting it today (instead of tomorrow) that I'll be fine by the weekend....

Of course they force it upon us, but they must not have their stash yet...we haven't been given time/locations yet for getting it.  I'm not asking.

I haven't gotten the mist, but I got my shot last week. Felt cruddy the next day but fine the day after. Hopefully your results will be similar or better

The Air Force says I'm too healthy to get the shot.  Only mist for us!

Coming to Longhorn from Southern Cali. I went on weather.com today and it showed that there is more humidity here in So Cal than in Austin. I was expecting humidity to play a factor in the race...should I be expecting more of a dry heat? If it's 90 and dry it will just be another day at home....

Depends upon the day and which way the wind blows...but more often than not it is not too humid.  I wouldn't call Austin dry as void of humidity like NM and AZ seem to be, but it'll hover more in the middle ranges than get up high (unlike Houston where you have to cut your way through it each morning).  Also, the 90 degree hasn't really seemed to be hitting until truly later in the afternoon (post noon, probably hottest around 2-3PM)....so all of us should enjoy most of our race in morning temps which have been quite enjoyable, and somewhat "chilly" to us Texans.

Hee hee!  I loooove hearing chilly and Texas in the same sentence.  One advice : don't come to Canada before a few months or you'll freeze to death. LOL.   Looking forward meeting lots of BTers!

On my ride this weekend everyone had their arm warmers on. I had to laugh (even though I was cold and unprepared in my sleeveless jersey) - I think it was over 60 and it got in to the 90s that day. But, it was cold for here

Everyone look for the BT Team area/tent and BBQ pit along the run course.  We will have a 10x10 tent with a BT banner, limited chairs, and loud MUSIC!

More info in the BBQ post HERE .

First of all, SOOO ready for the race - I really hate taper and I know that Keith will be putting on a great race as usual! In regards to the temps, though...  I guess I'm a little different than some of the other posters. Been in TX 15 years, so I'm pretty used to heat (and I definitely prefer heat to cold any day). I'm still not sure I'd refer to the expected temps as chilly, other than perhaps feeling a little chilly on the first hour or so of the bike. Enjoy that while you can   A high of 89 would only be 3 degrees cooler than last year, which got pretty toasty; although it is supposed to be less humidity (yeah!). I just ran 5 miles, and the temp right now is about 80. Started getting warm and built up a good sweat by the end, and that was 11 am.

Only reason I'm posting this is I think that folks need to respect those temps on at this type of distance (especially the non-southerners who aren't used to it). Med tent kept pretty busy last year, so make sure and use the sponges, misting fans, and hydrate to keep body temp under control.

I agree a high of 89 is toasty and we need to respect that. My comment was in regards to the Cool for Texas comment. I thought it was funny the other day that we were still warm compared to pretty much anywhere else and my whole ride group was bundled up like it was below freezing (yes, several had broken out their winter riding jackets)

There I have to agree. We can be such wimps about the cold, me included. Had people out last weekend with leggings, arm warmers, jackets... and the low that day was lower 60's I believe.

I probably won't think it's warm until I'm out on the run.  Even then, it wasn't that long ago that I was in the 115 degree blast furnace....
