TriMikeP1973 - 2009-10-08 11:57 AM Anyone know if there's going to be a BT tent?

I've asked multiple times in multiple threads and gotten zero response.
I'd assume no, at this point.

I asked Marmadaddy for a banner to put up, but he said that they aren't always returned and they are fairly expensive.  We will be putting up the Frisco Triathlon Club tent and there is only a small handful of us racing (which some of us are BT'ers) and we could use our tent as a BT meeting point.  Just a thought/offer.

But if anyone knows marmadaddy, and he trusts you (ha),  that might help us get a banner to put up.

I'll miss Quadzilla but changing the course due to holes is a good decision. I turned an ankle hitting one of those holes last year.

Last year there was a big group of BTers either spectating, or doing it as a relay so BT registered for their own tent site. The RD provides a little sign so you know what area belongs to what group. Someone brought a few tents, a BBQ grill, coolers, etc. It was quite fun.

I'm really surprised it is not happening this year!

KEJ - 2009-10-08 7:16 AM We've been out there a bunch, and there's some really rough parts on the offroad section that I've become increasingly concerned about. I don't want folks spraining ankles, etc. The drought has really affected things...Of course, now it's raining every other day. I'm gonna go out there again this weekend, and map/run both run courses. Worst case, Quadzilla will rear it's ugly head again in 2011. I have to make safety our first priority. YES, the run will be MUCH flatter without Quadzilla, but I'd still call it challenging. Lots of rollers, and we use the shaded lefthand side of the park now, which is also rolling. We still have 12 groups for the run course, which just means there will be even more fun stuff out on the course for you, to take your thoughts off of the pain. 6 bands too We've got some really special stuff this year, including what we like to call "Christmas in October".....you'll just have to make it to the run to see what we're talking about....
Understood, and I'm sure you guys have valid reasons for leaving it out this year. I bet the whole event will be great, last year's event was very well-done!

My last HIM was New Orleans and I can say if they have water at the stations on this one I will be more than excited. I was looking forward to Quadzilla though...Just reading what is in the athelete's PDF tells me this is going to be a kick event. I am EXCITED AS HELL!!!!

Keith.....and/or anyone who's ridden the bike course.....

How are the roads? Cracks? Shifts?

I know that some roads around my BIL's house in Georgetown are a little beat up due to the drought.....

Thanks,

4 weeks ago road the course.   There are a few sections where you will find large, dangerous cracks.  They seemed mainly on the right side.   Be careful there.   But mostly the roads were in pretty good shape..  I don't know if they have filled them in the last 4 weeks though, which could be possible.

I'd be all up for this. I'm doing the swim leg of our Team Army Strong relay, and then spectating. Know of some other BT'ers doing the same. I don't mind bringing some goodies.  As much as I wish I could take the lead on this, I simply cannot.  Too much on my plate with IMFL training and work...I've taken on too much as it is!!

Wish I was doing the full race, but also excited to cheer everyone on this time around.  If anyone has a tent, I'll occupy post swim!

We've actually spoken with Travis County. They're planning on filling the cracks for the race. Will it be perfect? No, but hopefully they'll do a good job.

Last year, we went out and filled a bunch of them, and are prepared to do it again, if neccessary. That said, Travis Co. has been great@!!!!!!

As long as they don't chip-seal the roads, I'll be happy!

Like LonghornBuckeye said, here are a few places that have big cracks, but they are navigable if you pay attention.

I too would like to see a BT tent, or at least chat with some of the folks here. This is my first HIM ever, and I definitely could not accomplish the training (and hopefully the race) without the help and support of so many people here.

And I'd especially like to thank KEJ, the volunteers, and everyone else who has helped put together this great event!

Cool

So long as somebody can play the Marky & Bungle remix of 'Snow Patrol' as I'm crossing the finish line, I'm all set for music.

So, we have been in a drought forever and a day, now it has been raining for a week. Just concerned, at what point would the RD make the event a Duathlon? I live in S. Austin and this morning it was a constant mist/ light rain. I still have not gotten over 2007's CapTex being canceled due to the rain.

It would pretty much take a constant downpour the morning of the event a la CapTex for this to turn into a duathlon.

The Accuweather.com forecast calls for sunshine and temps from 55-68 on race day. Granted, since when can the weatherman predict the weather?

Like everyone else, I'll keep an eye on the weather forecast; but it is the day before the race until there is any kind of accuracy, and even that is questionable. Weather folks seem to have been dumber this year than ever   At Redman, they completely missed the boat (pun not intended, but appropriate...) as of the night before! And just this past Saturday I rode the LH course on a day where that very morning they were predicting an initially cold day with warming temps into low 70's by afternoon. Yeah, right - never got out of the 50's...

3 loop run course? And maybe I'm reading the map wrong, but it looks like Quadzilla's gone???

WHAT?!? NO QUADZILLA?!?

I've run that stupid hill in training multiple times for weeks, and NOW they change the course? Its less than 3 weeks till the race! Who do they think they are? They've taken out the hardest, most brutal 1/2-mile potion of the run, and...

wait...

Why am I complaining?!? I'll just shut up now.

Cool

hahahaha, this really made me laugh.  You are going to be in great shape on the run with all that hill training.

Haha yeah I was out there riding the course too.  I waited until afternoon thinking it might get a little warmer but no dice.  Unfortunately I forgot cold damp air + asthma + no cold weather gear = bad experience and I pulled up short.  Got my neck gater, jacket and tights coming this week just in case race day is the same.

Still, was impressed to see how many people were out there riding and running the courses.  When I was out there a month ago I saw nobody and on Saturday it almost looked like race day crowds.  Even saw some napping int heir cars lol.  It really got me even more excited

Running in 65-70 degree, overcast weather would make it hard for me to keep from blowing it out in the first 5-6 miles.

(I'll gladly take it over the 90s though!)

don't bother looking at the forecast for Oct 25th quite yet

I'm REALLY hoping for the typical upper 70's weather we'd expect this time of year. But, it's been really rainy lately. The good news: transition area is now GRASS, and not dust/dirt. Was out meeting with the folks at the park today. Looks really GREEN everywhere.....

Lots of the supplies are already here: shirts, hats, towels, medals, powerbars and gels, etc.

For real! Right before Redman, Accuweather said "high of XX and beautiful" - it actually said "BEAUTIFUL!"
Nothing about the weather that day was beautiful.

After Redman, I am coming prepared for rain, wind, cold... and then also for hot and humid. Ya never know.
That's the last time I don't bring some plastic grocery bags to the race!

Is anyone planning to do a swim in the water at Decker Lake, either this weekend or Sat before the race? I don't like to swim alone in open water, especially with the boats in the lake.

I was already planning on doing an OWS and bike brick this Sat, 10/17 (need to test out my wetsuit.) Lake Pflugerville is a great place to train, but if I can test the water at Decker Lake before the race, I will feel much better. Are the buoys already in place?

Cool
