If you want to buy, then keep an eye on ebay and craigslist. You won't get the latest and greatest or maybe the name brand you wanted, but there are some good deals. I've bought 2 sets of 50mm wheels (similar to zipp 404) for $300 a set on ebay. |

Expert 1164 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread So Im thinking of getting a room at the Seelbach Hotel right next to 4th St Live. Its not too much more expensive than anything else ($150 a night) and besides, you gotta live it up for the experience! I was also thinking of getting a less expensive suite with a kitchen ($90 a night), but about 2 miles from the finish line. Anyone have experience with either? Does the convenience of having a kitchen for an IM trump the fancy hotel atmosphere and location right on the finish line? Just trying to weigh options and amenities for the big weekend. |

Does the convenience of having a kitchen for an IM trump the fancy hotel atmosphere and location right on the finish line? Just trying to weigh options and amenities for the big weekend. For me it comes down to a matter of time spent at the race. For instance, I am looking to spend Thurs - Monday for the race. At 4 nights total, I'm leaning more toward the suite option with the Kitchen for two reasons: control over exactly what I'm eating, and price (I'm in Grad school and making my own meals is the better option at this point). I'll have my car in Louisville, and intend on being in town during the days preceeding Ironman for all the hubbub, and probably spend one night out with the girlfriend as I doubt she'll want to eat in every night. I can still make it to the finish line before midnight on Sunday after a shower and some 'dinner' after the race too. Once the stay gets shortened, having your own kitchen is a moot point, and becomes a negative when it requires you stay not within walking distance. If you stay downtown, just mind the menus and stick to the comfort foods that work for you, and watch out for the ice cream stands? What hotel were you looking at that had the kitchen suite for ~$90? I've been looking for something exactly like that. |

I stayed at the Seelbach Hilton last year and was less than impressed. If you want to be at the finish line, stay at the Hyatt. I was sorry I didn't. It's right between the finish line and where you go for post race activities. (food, massage, medical) |

5 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I'm at Townplace as well. The 2 mile distance across the river is well worth the cost with the kitchen! Granted, I've never stayed there, so I can't speak to the quality of the rooms...but I'll be too focused on getting through the Big Day to be worried about the room situation! |

Champion 5575 Butler | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I'm staying at town suites as well. I have a friend who works for Marriot and she could get me a room at the downtown Marriot for $150 a night or a room at townsuites for $35. Seemed like a no brainer. Not sure if my room has a kitchen or not but for the price I really can't complain. |

Expert 1149 CenTex | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Room recommendations wanted. I have reservations at both TownPlace North and SpringHill Suites. I have 2-bedroom queen suites at both, as family and friends are coming in for the race. (Both my nephew and I are racing, so there is a large contingent.) The price per night is only $5.00 different, so that's not really an issue. |

I'm sorry I forgot to respond to this. One set is Hed Carbonlite 5.0's. These are 50mm deep tubuklars and are the predecessor to the current Hed Stingers. They are a quality rim made by Gigantex and are very reliable and reasonably durable. The other set is from an independent wheel builder. It is the same Gigantex rim and a similar hub. Gigantex is the company in Tiawan that makes almost all the basic carbon rims. None of the companies put it on the their websites that they are using the same rim as everyone else, but if you dig a bit on the specs you start to see a pattern. If you search on a hardcore roadie site or maybe ST you'll find info on which rim is on the different brands. If you need any more info let me know. |

Extreme Veteran 557 Woodland Hills, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I had my first KY dream last night. In the dream I had just flown into KY with my girlfriend and we were waiting for a table at a mom and pop fried chicken restaurant. While we waited we sat at the bottom of a steep hill and watched cyclists fly down it. One guy was going down it no handed, another was full aero, they were all confident and fast. As we watched we talked about how scary it would be and how we would have to be on our brakes the whole way down trying not to die. |
