Cool!!!  Hey Trina!  Where in OKC are you at?  I live up by Lake Hefner.  Good luck tomorrow the weather should be great for the race.....minimal wind.  I've done Red Bud bike tour the last 2 years it's a great ride......well last year was tough with the insane wind.  I think I'm going to do the 5K on Sunday.

Cool indeed! Holly, I live right on Lake Overholser. I love riding up to Hefner and then back around Overholser - great bike workout.

I'm totally new to endurance sports so this is my first Redbud. I entered last minute as a bike race "primer" for Lonestar. I need to know what it feels like to pass a lot of people on the bike, so I thought I'd go ahead and do it - just the 10 miler though. I need to save my cycling greatness for another time Wink

Speaking of Lonestar: Where can I find my bib and wave numbers? Eh? Halp! I'm a newbie!

If it lived in Amarillo, I would probably want a CT as well...  There is whole lot of "smell" around that city

LOL it's not that bad.  Every once in a while my four year says "Mom, the cows pooped outside again. It's stinky."

LOL - that's the smell of money - or so I am told....

Just saw this post. Amarillo smells AWFUL! I speed through it as fast as I can on my way to visit friends in Albuquerque. Of course, if you live there I'm sure it's not so bad. It's probably a great place to live. Ok, I'm shutting up before I offend anyone.

Andy - Yep. OCCC sprint is on my list for this season. I've taken water aerobics in that pool, and that pool is to die for.

Are you calling me a cougar???! As I was telling Steve and crew, the conversation in my kitchen was pretty funny last night. Hubs heard I was getting up at 4:30 to meet a friend to run and says, "Why don't you just go meet her now? Why bother going to bed?" I explained that she was a "he." (Oh great, says hubs!) Someone I met online (even better!).

Hilarious! Did you have a good run? I'll try to make it out next time!

Thanks, John. I'm bib number 648 Smile

Now it's time for me to complain. Why do they have me in the age group of 45-49 when I'm only 44?! Why does my swim wave include 18 year olds?? That's cruel. And my cap color is red - this totally clashes with what I was planning on wearing. I am going to have to revamp my entire outfit to match a red cap.

Now, for positive stuff: I am signing-up for the first timers open water swim clinic given by the coast guard on the Friday before I race. Thought I'd go ahead and get acquainted with the guys that are going to be saving my life during the swim portion of the race. Lol!

CyborgQueen - 2010-04-09 10:39 AM I'm having a bit of a idiotic-on-my-part-perhaps Garmin 305 issue. Perhaps people can help?

I don't transfer my workouts from my Garmin to the Garmin Training Center every time, just once a week or after two weeks. However, more than half of the time, the cool GPS map doesn't show up.  I guess they have a limit on how many days the GPS Map can be on the Garmin?

Second thing is...how the hell can I be SURE that I'm not in Multisport mode? I'm sick of not seeing my run and only to discover that it has been mixed in with the Bike and put in Multisport. It annoys me. I have tried to "Reset Lap" every time, but it doesn't seem to do the trick. Am I missing something?

Is there a way I can break up the multisport workout, and put it in the proper folders?

Lastly - I also use SportTracks, but I sort of stopped using that because I'm getting different numbers compared to Garmin Training Center. Sometime it's off by a little or a lot in terms of splits, and speed. I think I'm going to go bonkers if I over analyze my workouts by using two different things. I do like SportTracks better though.  However, they will only read the last 5 workouts on my Garmin, so I'm kind of SOL if I don't transfer my workouts everyday.

Thanks for any help...

Yes! I do this frequently when I accidentially forget to switch my workouts from run to Bike. I might need to go home tonight and look at the program just to be sure... but I think if you right click the workout it gives you an option to move the workout!

"I ran high mileage for all the seasons, but took a full month of low-key, active-rest running between seasons. I did well with 120 to 140 miles a week. If you're a good runner, you can run well at any distance with that kind of training. One fall, I went up to three workouts a day, and 156 miles a week, but then I ran a 2:15 at Fukuoka, so it didn't pay off."   Ron Hill

ha!

the rest is here.  good read.

Your age group is the age you turn in that calendar year - so you may be aged up for a while.  I have  a friend who had 50 on his calf but he wrote "not yet" underneath it.  Too funny.

I assume there are younger wmn in your swim wave b/c they grouped the female age groups. Get used to being the last wave with the largest variety of ages. It often happens to the women.  The positive side is that going last means T1 is pretty much empty by the time you get there

And I hear you about the swim cap.  Don't they know my color is pinK?

Good move on the swim clinic.  Get used to not being able to see the bottom - it is a weird feeling for a while.  Just focus on your form and practice lifting your head for sighting.

Ok gang, here's my bio.

Name:  Cadmus (my friends call me Matt)

I was a two or three term swbkrun-er before the last round, when I flaked out.  But I'm back and ready to provide John and Trevor w/ content for their comedic endeavor.

Ok, a little about me -

Turn ons: I enjoy long walks on the beach with my wife, with whom I have two children (almost 3yr old girl and 13 month old boy).  I enjoy OWS, cycling, mt biking, running and skiing.  I just got a new job that I'll start on April 26th.

Turn offs: Lap swimming, speed work (does not include tempo runs, those are ok), smokers, and people that invite you over for dinner and don't serve beer AND dessert (this should probably be first on the list)

Ok, seriously - I started training a couple of years ago (December 2007).  I did two sprints in 2008 and lost 20+ pounds in the process.  I also ran a 15k and my first half marathon in 2008.  I feel like I got a little side-tracked last year, mostly due to the addition of a second child - definitely a worthwhile sacrifice.  I think my only race last year was a half marathon, I improved my time over the previous year by 8 or 9 minutes.

I'd like to do a HIM, but I'm not sure how you guys with young kids do it.   The main obstacle for me here is the long weekend workouts.  Weekends are my chance to spend some quality time with the kids and those longer workouts can't get done before they get up (I'm not an evening workout person).  I'm currently re-assessing my schedule for the year, I'll update my log once I have buy-in from the boss lady

Looking forward to a fun summer in the swmkrun group.

hey Matt , how you doin'??

Seriously though. did you contradict yourself there?? Or why can't they be done before they get up??....Obviously, for me this is my 1st HIM coming up. The last month or so is really when the longer workouts have started. Honestly, the biggest thing is get the buy-in from the boss first. She knew this was something that i really want to build to. As well, the race would be a great way to meet some of these crazy SWBKRUN'ers.
You're a runner, so a 2 hr run on the weekend isnt bad. you probably do that now. Maybe its  the itming of it all, but I've been doing a tonne of trainer work this winter. So 2hr trainer rides arent uncommon. They happen Saturday morning at 7ish. The kids/wife come downstairs wher they get up and the girls play around while we do our thing. (almost 5&3)
Yes every once in a while once of us(her) has to break up the fights, but overall its not too bad. I've had a couple outdoor rides, only 1 long one so far. Its all about priorities.....That being said, i couldnt imagine going longer and the training invloved in that right nowthough.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.  We really appreciate them.

On a positive note, last Thursday Connor's Neurosurgeon gave him a 100% release.  Then, last night while I was at my daughters soccer practice a lady hands me this local kids magazine that is coming out today (turns out it is her magazine).  Connor is in one of the pictures on the cover and in a story in the magazine.  The picture was taken during the last game he played (two days before the accident).  He is #22, carrying the ball........

OK, I forgot to mention my "secret" weapon for a long run like this. I've been playing around with this all spring before runs and such. My secret weapon is blackened shrimp alfredo, made with whole wheat pasta, zatarans and mixed up salt on the shrimp and some ragu or bertolis alfredo. It just sits well on my stomach. My plan is to have a small cup of this every hour or so - and eat it cold.

I've practiced this a few times, and it seems to be fine. If it helps, maybe we can start a trend, shrimp/lobster/crab legs at every drink table.

I never even heard the word episiotomy before my wife gave birth to our kids. Our experienes have parallels to yours, although I have never seen Robin on a trampoline and she did not pee herself AFAIK.

Since you opened this can of worms, Tracy, just putting it out there that you do not have to have given birth to have this problem!

Teachers and doctors and other women that hold their bladders for far too long are notorious for developing this "issue".  And that's all I'm gonna say about that!
