Expert 847 Brevard, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed I completed my 50k trail run today in 7:17 (unofficial). The first lap went really well, but my stomach just wasn't right from the start. I felt queasy, and nothing at the aid stations looked good. This is very unusual for me. Normally I can eat anything at any time! I forced my self to eat a little bit, and hoped it would get better in time. I had great help from hubby and a friend at the half way point and got some dry gear changed: socks, shirt, gloves, hat. Felt almost fresh starting the second lap. That feeling didn't last long. By this point the snow was packed really hard and it had warmed up to about 31 degrees, so it was VERY slippery. At about mile 20 I started to have stomach cramps. I dumped the Infinit mix I had been using and switched to Gatorade and water (should have done this earlier). The cramping stopped, but I was feeling pretty low by mile 24. I started having the urge to ask random strangers for hugs. At mile 26 I had a pity party and cried a little, and by mile 27 I put my big girl panties on and sucked it up. Nothing was broken, I wasn't having any major problems, so I changed the attitude and slowly ticked off the miles to the finish line. I'll try to get my RR up tomorrow. Time for some rest. |

Got on the bike..it would have been very easy to say "I am too tired", but mind over matter and I got to it right away. 1hr and 45 min. on the trainer as I watched Transformers: Dark side of the Moon. Long day tomorrow...Training and Honey Do Listtttttttttttttttttttt........

Veteran 291 | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed padarinsmith - 2012-12-28 7:15 PM Went for my first bike ride this season, last one was beginning of July. It felt horrible. The excuses were running through my mind, "haven't rode in so long", "need a road bike instead of this steel mt bike with fat nobby tiress", "need bike shoes", "need a bike computer" etc. etc. Then the thought occured.... "I have everything I need right now. Intense burn in my thighs, pounding heart in my chest, air rushing in my lungs." As long as I have that instead of a full belly on the couch I am getting STRONGER, that is all that matters. Feel the burn, hear the pound Ahhhh yes put it all back into perspective....glass is half full.....maybe more |

Veteran 291 | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed Awesome job Jayne !!! Way to stick with it and change the attitude. Where do I get a pair of those big girl panties ? They sound like they help a lot
On another note while Jayne was running crazy miles and hugging random strangers. I went for a 7 mile run. Got back from my run and was peeing blood, scared me a little but then I read it was not unusual for longer distance runs if your bladder is empty and your not hydrated enough, called - exercise induced hematuria . Trauma to the bladder walls can cause bruising and bleeding, sounds scarey. Anybody ever have this happen to them? Yes I will get to the doctor just in case Edited by bfwhitt 2012-12-30 9:17 AM |

Yes I will get to the doctor just in case Although I wouldn't panic about this if it's never happened before, and never happens again, I'm glad you are going to get it checked out. Don't think I've ever had blood in my urine after a "long" run. If you need me so send you a pair of big girl panties, just let me know. You might have some 'splaining to do. |

Champion 5522 Frisco, TX | Subject: RE: Swbkrun mentor group - Closed BIO TIME! NAME: Andy
2012 RACES: Started the year off with a ITB issue. Slowly came back for a couple of sprints, a couple of organized bike rides and then 5 days / 350 miles of riding my bike across Oklahoma as part of the Freewheel OK tour. No PR's for me. Oh yeah, and a 5k mudrun (meh). 2013 RACES: Probably a couple of sprints and an Oly. Couple of centuries, maybe a week long ride again across OK depending upon the route. Looking to do a 4k OWS this summer. Weightloss: Yeah, that would be good. I am still down about 15lbs from my all time high, but I could roll off quite a bit more... |

Really good work - you should be proud. jon Jon & Margo, Please go to my logs and look back at Jan-Mar 2011 and you will see something very different from the person who just ran 50k. In particular see March 26, 2011 when I ran my first non-stop 5k. Set your goals, whatever they may be, and move toward them one workout at a time. I started out running 2.5 minutes and walking 2.5 minutes at a time. I think my first non-stop 5k was more difficult to achieve than yesterday's ultra. When I started triathlon, running was my weakest of the disciplines, so I've been focusing on it. I'm still slow, but in the process I've discovered I love the trail and tough conditions. I've also discovered inner strength that I never knew I had. The sky's the limit and our bodies are capable of amazing things. Have a great New Year everyone. Edited by jfought 2012-12-30 7:18 PM |

Usually I am very busy so I don't have time to eat except when I should. The kids are on break now and there are way too many goodies in the house. With the kids on break, I am not so busy and have more time to eat. Lol We will be packing up the 8 tins of cookies to go in the freezer today. They are too accesible sitting on the counter! This is me!! Usually I'm squeezing in a meal that is not quite enough, but gets me to the next snack. But with everyone home and lots of baking going on, there is lots of grazing. I know my body, though -- I'll hop on the scale once the kids are back in school, focus for a week, and I'll be where I was before this holiday indulging. I made my husband take some of the caramel corn I made into work today, so that's gone, phew. And when other kids are over I'm VERY generous with the Christmas cookies right now!!! Eat up, kids! Biggest accomplishment for 2012 was running more miles this year then I ever have in my life, and I think I passed up my old record sometime in November. I'm in a good place with life balance and I'd like to keep it there for awhile. Kyla, so cool to have another stay at home mom here! My kiddos are older (8 and almost 11) so they are in school full time. Some how I am still very busy. People always ask when I will go back to work. Don't think it's happening any time soon. We are blessed that I can stay home. How old are your kiddos? Also a SAHM.....getting harder to explain at 23, 19 and 16!!!!! |
