Veteran 2441 Western Australia | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED TriAya - 2013-04-06 7:11 PM so Yanti are you moving to Jakarta long term, or is it just for a few months to get stuff sorted out? No matter how long its for I'm sorry that you can't take your funny farm with you, I miss mine like crazy when I go away.Landed in Jakarta safely in the midst of a helluva tropical storm. It's always a cyclone on travel days! The Hobbit Maid cried when I left the Funny Farm. Out of relief, probably. I miss my wicked little furry ones. Oh and I had a crapload to do before I left, of course, and wouldn't you know it the moment I wake up I've got blurry colors and partial vision happening--impending migraine! Staved off at the pass--the horrendous pain, nausea, photophobia, phonophobia never came on THANK GOD!!!--but felt pretty awful and wiped out as if I'd had one, it was just the aftermath (that's normal. For me, anyway, and some other migrainous people). Also the blurry colors lack of vision persisted for hours and did not help. But I'm here, and the driver and I are crawling through Jakarta traffic (never helped by a storm) and we might make it home in three hours or so. Maybe two if we're lucky. |

Plus Ann-Marie has an awesome number and wisely told us, saving us time from having to stalk it down. OK, pod, so here's the situation: as part of my HM training plan, I'm to run a 10K race this weekend. I found a cheap one not terribly far away, but the problem is it is a VERY tiny race/field, as in last year only 27 people ran the 10K and the year before was only 39. Looking at the finishing times from last year, I will probably finish last unless I can edge out the 71 year old (if he races this year). On one level, I realize someone has to be last, but on the other hand, I have never been so certain that the likelihood of me being last is darn near 100%. I think this is my first stand-alone 10K, so I don't have any solid, previous times to go on, and if I go by my times in Olympic tris, well, I'm extra screwed. So just suck it up and go and race and be last? DFL is way better than DNF... ! |

Member 892 England | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED This time last year i was about to take part in my first ever race, the Lincoln 10k and i learned a valuable lesson- Nothing new on race day. So, with 19 hours to go to the start line, i decided to get my gait assessed at our 'local' running specialist shop and have come out with a new pair of shoes, socks and elastic laces. Can't imagine anything could possibly go wrong in the morning. Good luck to all our fellow Manatee racers out there over the weekend. |

Master 1970 Somewhere on the Tennessee River | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Got back in the saddle this morning after not riding for a few months. Reffing soccer robs training time. Soccer season is winding down so it's full attention on tri training. Rode outdoors for the first time this year. Sunshine and temps in the 70's. That's not something we've had for a spell. I'm right at 180 lbs of lean muscle. But that's muscle that comes from sprint running and weight lifting. Will start a 30 day run program tomorrow to retrain my legs to run on pavement, as opposed to the forgiving running that is done on turf. Pavement is unnatural. Don't mind riding on pavement, though. Did I say it is pretty outside? Methinks I will head down to the marina and start getting the sailboat ready to use. That's my excuse to go down to the river and drink a beer and socialize with the other river rats. ----Done with the free associating, for now.... |

I know it's a bit before schedule but guess who might be coming to Indonesia in the winter????? Winter or not, whoever it is, you just ought to know that now BOTH Jakarta and Bali have marathons. I dunno, I might melt running in either of those places. Can't I just do a 10K or something? Anyway, long story short J's aunt and uncle are taking a sabbatical and their home base will be in Bali. J's Dad and step-mom will be visiting them for 3 months or so in the winter some time and I plan on visiting them. So, it's a visiting train. Awwwwwyaaaaaah ... oh wait not that kind of train. But it could be This island might not survive Tina, me, and you all on it at the same time. Do not put off doing one's yearly Staff Review and Development Plan until the Friday afternoon when it is due, especially on a Friday when it is actually beautiful outside. 2. The septuagenarian faculty member whose office is very near my veal pen is playing club/techno music, a far cry from his usual piano or guitar or classical tunes which he plays at high volume (for an office/work area). Odd, very odd. I'm not the only one who picked up on his divergence from the norm. 3. How ya hangin' in there, Ann-Marie? Ugh, I am about to go over our FY2013 goals right now. But wait, isn't it Q3? Doesn't make any sense. It's Friday, perfect day for techno. You should bust out the Harlem Shake. Can someone please explain the Harlem Shake to me? |

Not an interview just ... a casual meeting. She was totally game so I sent her a meeting planner and she just accepted it. Now I have no idea what I should say in the meeting!!!!! Help! WTH happened with the other interview/job op???? I can't get outta here and you have to juggle opportunities. What gives?!? Congrats!!!!!!!!! Well, it was between China and Korea and they think that my passion for sustainability is not a good fit for China (which is true) so I got the Korea one. I just made my transition this week. But really that's not what I want to do ultimately. And this other team is REALLY where I want to be (and have for years.) But getting on is the trick. I just don't want to throw myself at her when we meet up. I want it to be clear I am looking for an opportunity but do it in a smart way. I just don't know how to do that. Ask her about her...her career path, her life, her job etc.... get to talking work... work in what you want to do, then ask her for advice on how to get there.... People like to talk about themselves, and they really like when someone listens. Of course - if you can work in Chic Chips somewhere.. I highly recommend it! |

I just don't want to throw myself at her when we meet up. I want it to be clear I am looking for an opportunity but do it in a smart way. I just don't know how to do that. Why? What do they have that makes you want to be with them? More important, what do you have that makes their team better with you on it? I think I sort of answered this in what I just wrote, but since I am working on being blunt and specific. Why? Because I want to be part of something that makes a difference in the world. Buildings are responsible for an overwhelming amount of energy consumption, raw material use, water consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. We have the ability to limit the way we impact those things with small ECONOMICAL changes and I want to be a part of that. What makes me want to be on that team is the fact that they are the one department in the building that has a DIRECT impact on the above. I think the biggest thing I bring to the team is my passion and my desire to make a change. ^^^^She needs to know this^^^^ How you do that is up to you, but I believe you will make this known in the way that is most natural to you. X2 - your passion comes out in writing this, so I can only imagine when it is the spoken word. I would start with talking about her though... learn...listen... then she will ask you about you, and that's when you get to share this. |

That made me smile. For every reason in the world. I know. I can't believe I didn't mention it first thing. My mind is going a million miles and hour and I am sweating like a pig. Ima mess. Welcome to my world EVERY day! The meds help. So do the funnier of the voices Except I sweat like a dying horse. Pigs don't sweat that much. That's why they like to seek cool things--water, mud. Hm. The Funny Farm lacks a piglet. And a goat. I would like a milking goat. You, on the other hand, ARE fine and are going to be fine. What's on the docket for the rest of the workday? That's all you have to worry about. In fact, just whatever you need to do next. Like post here. Well, I just procured a cake that looks like a giant hamburger for J's bday party tomorrow night. I have to finish up this Korea Schematic, print everything I need for my trip (today is my last day in the office for almost 2 weeks!!!!) That's about it. I'll survive. Salty and Froggy are here. That's a sure recipe for entertainment! Sorry Froggy, but the streaks are consecutive days running without a missed day. Sans clothing is optional... What - this was a choice..? Dang it - missed opportunity! |

After a frustrating Friday pm, i thought it would be a good idea to take wifey and daughter to the pub for dinner, which would give me the perfect excuse to snick a couple of pints and unwind. I gazed at the menu in a sort of perplexed way and decided that, with less than 48 hours to go before my first race of the season, i would, for the first time, take on one of their eating challenges. How dumb am I!!!! To cut a long story short, i failed to clear my plate, it is now 5am and my indigestion has kept me awake for half the night. I am not sure if i will actually have finished digesting everything before 11am tomorrow, despite thinking that several glasses of red wine might help. Somebody needs to give me a slap. Ok, just line up behind Salty and you'll get your turn when she eventually gets tired Everyone had you up on this comedic pedestal that I had yet to see (partially because I don't understand some of the banter you older manatee's have with each other)... but THIS MADE ME LAUGH REALLY FRICKING HARD! Nice to make your acquaintance my new British friend. (Manatee's are instant friends in my opinion). |

Nice to make your acquaintance my new British friend. (Manatee's are instant friends in my opinion). The pleasure's all mine i'm sure. So, i'm into my final pre race phase of drinking several 'fine strong ales' as taught to me by Salty and most of the other seasoned Manatees (Yanti is nothing if not over-indulgent, especially if there is a surplus of piglets, food or tropical diseases). There appears to be some wine left so i feel obliged to clear that too, after all, one cannot be too overhydrated. Also need to get to the shop as i may require a rennie or two before the end of the night. Hang on a minute, did you say 'comedic pedastal'. What have they been saying about me?????? Whatever is it, it can't be true....., after all, i have nothing but love and respect for all my fellow Manatees. BTW, did i read that Salty has been sent to Korea? Is that on the direct orders of the President in retaliation to the threatened nuclear strike? If so i think it's a bit extreme, the North Koreans don't seem that bad. Regular 980 Caerphilly, Wales, uk. | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED I've had a week of training PBs, which is nice. Started off the week by breaking both my 10 km and my HM Bests whilst on a long run, sweet, then, this mornings run gave me a new 5 km pb and have knocked off another 1 min 7 secs to bring me under 25 min barrier on ,y way to my sub 20 target . I am reading the JD book u recommended Salty, and so far, I'm liking it. I am already going to apply one of the teachings from it. That is, I'm gonna train at the current stress level for the next 6 weeks rather than raising the bar each time I pb. Hopefully reduce the risk of injury/burn out. Good luck to all the racing manatees out there this weekend, not that you'll need it. You've done the training, now reap the rewards. |
