TriAya - 2007-08-15 4:42 PM mosc57 - 2007-08-15 1:15 PM So If I get up from my desk and walk briskly to the bathroom, Should I log it? seems like a bit of a stretch. I thought this was a swim/run challenge. i.e. with running sneakers on Oh heck no (IMO). Although if you can mapmyrun it, have your runnies on, and you'd planned it as part of your miles, I guess that's your prerogative. I specified that if I have my running shoes on or it's part of a mixed workout or warmup/cooldown, I am counting it (as I had planned to when I stated my miles, which are very low due to an injury. Although--really--is 50 miles that low?). I also noted that I don't count anything at work--even work that involves a lot of running, walking, or swimming yardage (as my work happens to do). Besides, I can make coffee in my own house or get it at work. I often run, or walk like a demon (between 13-15 min/mi, no joke) to do errands for the very purpose of moving more or getting runs in. In all seriousness for a moment ... this challenge goes on the honor system both for declaring totals and logging them. My intent, when I declared my miles, was to include any purposeful running or walking done. For that reason, I didn't declare any distance that I would otherwise have to do anyway--e.g., walking to the bathroom, walking in a mall, running to catch a bus, work miles, etc. In the interest of playing fair, if there's a pretty good consensus on both teams that I ought to forfeit a (fast!) walking mile because I chose to put my shoes on and buy coffee in the middle of it instead of just tossing some grounds in the perker at home, I'm willing to do it. HeII no. The logs are you personal record of your training. Log how you want and what you want. On that note, I'm heading out of the office now and running from the elevator to my car in the parking lot (=0.100 Km) . Heck, I might even take the stairs. (22m elevation) Will log it tommorow. For the record , I do have my sneakers on.

Gosh, I knew I had those conversions wrong! All this time I thought 1 mile = 1.609 km, when in reality, =0.100 km is just as equivalent. My bad! |

Extreme Veteran 514 Perkasie, PA | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! I picked goals that were a stretch for me. This morning I swam 40 laps. Makes me smile to think about January, when I was lucky to do 12 laps. |

Regular 97 Grosse Pointe, Michigan | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! My goals are a stretch too, though half the battle in reaching a goal is believing you can do it. Haha...Before May, I hadn't swam laps in decades. And I'd say before then, in the last 5 years, I had probably put about 20 miles TOTAL on my shoes and about 1 on the bike. And now, insanely perhaps, I'm going to do my first Olympic Tri in less than 6 weeks, and a half Ironman in May. Amazing what one year can do. |

You are looking at a person that couldn't take two steps without wanting to pass out. I have to say, I really am proud of myself Ohh head swell. |

I think bottom line, no matter which side of the challenge you are on, it's a good thing to get out of your comfort zone for a while. Challenges always make me push just a little harder or go a little further than I normaly would, which is a good thing. |

Veteran 243 | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! It's heating up in here! I say keep the focus/energy in the arms and legs, girls! Go get 'em! I'm heading out for a camping trip sans technology (well, internet, anyway) so I'm going to post my partial numbers for this week and I'll update when I get back Tuesday. Don't worry ladies, I'm packing my running shoes and swimsuit (although we're heading north, so I don't know how swimmable the water will be w/o wetsuit). Run: 7 mi for a month total of 16.98 (56.6% of goal) Swim: 2200 yds for a month total of 8800 yds (58.7% of goal) Have a great weekend everyone and keep those miles/yards a-coming! Trish |

Extreme Veteran 514 Perkasie, PA | Subject: Check yourself! Just checked my numbers and it looks like I am 58% of the way to my swim goal for August and 45% for running (not counting the run workout I plan for tonight, which should bring me to 50%). If you haven't already done so, check your numbers, Ladies! Get real with where you are at and what you need to do over the next 15 days. Keep up the good work!!!

Over 5,000 yards in one week. Running with my beagle, then swimming first thing in the morning = my new favorite thing I never had a dog I could run with. But it is on my list. I just have to convince my wife that a basset hound is not a real dog. I'm at 71 % of my swim goal and 72 % of my run goal. This month's run total will almost match my total for the whole year of 2006. The outdoor pool season is quickly comming to an end and I will have to get a few extra swims in in order to finish up before it closes. All the winter / indoor pools are closed for the month for the annual maintance. I'm am starting to enjoy running due to this stupid challange. I just have to get myself over the 40 min. mark. I prefer to see girls in a sporty one- piece bathing suit. If anyone is asking. Bathing cap is option but I like to think that adds to the look. Girls are weak. |

And I even threw in a 29 mile ride on rolling terrain last night averaging 22.1 mph for sh-ts and grins! (Oh, did I mention I'll be riding 90 tomorrow morning before adding even more running miles with a brick?? C'mon ladies ... who's got the ovaries to keep up with me!!) And it doesn't matter who's first out of the water!! They are 99% of the time not the first at the finish. I'll gladly give everyone 5 - 10 minutes on me out of the water ...... just gives me a lot more people to slingshot off of on the bike!! |

Extreme Veteran 1106 , Connecticut | Subject: RE: August - 2nd Annual Boy's vs Girls Swim / Run Challenge !! Hi all, Could someone please take me off the chart. I know it's all in fun, but this is a challenge and I am backing out and don't want it to affect my girls! I am past the pep talk stage. Please skip if you don't want to listen to self pity... I need to take a break from training. I'm not getting faster, I'm still fat (probably explains the not faster part). I'm home with kids, can't find a job blah, blah, blah. I'm sure I'll be back, but for now I don't want to count against the women. Thanks, MM |
