Happy July!!!!  Time to post the results of June and give us a synopsis of the month!

The word of the month for me was intensity.  I definitely traded volume for a whole lot of Z4/5 stuff. Way harder than my normal long course training.  YOWZA!

June's totals:
Bike:22h 33m 04s  - 404.59 Mi
Run:12h 05m 43s  - 78.72 Mi
Swim:15h 41m 39s  - 33670 Yd
Core Training:15m
Walking:30m
Yoga:3h 00m

Sam's trial turned into a du. Crazy weather on the east coast. Hoping to return home today to a house with power. Nothing like 100+ temps with no AC...

plan FSJ is looking good!  Rode the neglected road bike today for 20 - felt pretty good!  Actually, it felt AMAZING to be back on the bike.  Trying very hard to not feel any regrets for loaning my tri bike to Zach - this would be a perfect course for me to be on it, and he might do better with all the climbs on a roadie - but he's hooked.

Beautiful day here.....wishing the rest of you had it, too.

Linda--awesome to see you back at it on the bike and feeling good! Not much can stop your determination.

So what's up with Sam's race?  I saw it was turned into a du?

So what's up with Trevors race?  did he forget how to use  his pc and check in?  or is he still on the course?

Sam is driving for a bit on the way home, so I'm posting from her iPad. She was 2nd in AG and might have been first if she didn't drop a chain coming out of transition and take forever getting it back on.There was a big storm the night before and they said they couldn't get buoys out. Also thunder and lightning before race start. They did a 1 mile run for both races to start.

Hi, just posting from my wife's iPhone whilst lying in the sun looking out on the ocean!

I ran my marathon yesterday in 3:52:30 which I'm really pleased with. We had fantastic sunny weather and just a light wind.

Everything everyone says about the race starting at 20 miles is true, the whole atmosphere changed at that point with ambulances, people collapsing with cramp etc and my old ITB kicked in almost bringing me to a halt.

Anyway, I managed to push hard and the wall of sound from the crowd at the finish was amazing!

AWESOME SAM!!!

Way to podium! You never cease to amaze me!!

Last week I FINALLY did what I've hemmed and hawed about for about 2 years, and that is to put a compact double crankset on my tri bike. I had a double before (I think it was a 53-39) but I always, always die on hills. I rode a lot this spring with roadie friends and just kept choking on hills. They finally talked me into the 50-34. (Other triathletes I had talked to about this [mostly young, strong 20- and 30-somethings] always talked me out of it. No more.) Got it installed on Friday, took it out today...

Wow! What a difference!! I noticed I spent a lot more time in my big ring, which is a different mindset for me. But the coolest part was when I took the bike on a few familiar hills, I was able to stay aero the whole time, and I was also able to MANAGE MY EFFORT! I always would just go to my smallest gear and "manage" my effort by huffing and puffing, going out of aero, standing, and just grinding it out. Today I could, finally, spin up a hill, and then get stronger at the top as the hill tapered off, rather than just be dying and ready for a rest and a coast. Not sure how/if this will affect my bike times, but it certainly won't hurt. And if nothing else, it saves me a little bit of leg juice for running. Super excited!! (And the LBS cleaned my chain too -- woot!!!)
