I decided to still run it, but with very conservative approach. Run slow, walk every ten minutes, walk all hills. I was in a constant communication with my partner who was climbing in the area, so that if I needed to drop at any point, he would pick me up. I run the Rough Trail in the past, so I knew and remembered how difficult it was. But it was also extremely interesting and beautiful. The weather was perfect too. There was a moment at 9:30 when I realized I would not make it for the 10 hours cutoff, and decided to just walk and eat my chips. 10 minutes to the end I saw a sign pointing to the campground (where finish line was) and decided to give it one last shot. I made it in 9 hours 57 minutes, and it was a happy moment Recovery goes well, no injuries, just a standard "muscles getting back to normal". I walk like duck on steroids today... I really, really enjoy trail running, and I truly enjoy long distances. For some reason 10 hours felt much better than 1 hour 10K... I hope I will be back on ultra race sooner than later. I just know that the new bike computer will make me much faster and make those hills much easier when I do the Assault on the Carolinas in April! I also need new bike shorts. I'm looking for sales from Terry and DeSoto ;-) |
