Thanks gang.  It was fun to get back out there again and we all know I didn't shed to many tears over the cancelled swim.  LOL  Actually I was looking forward to some redemption but the giant lightening bolts across the sky left the RD no choice.  We even had a couple of good cracks later in the race so he definitely made the right call.  I'm working on my RR.

Sounds like another stellar MG weekend.  Suzy - I love the bobblehead.  Awesome marathon time David!  And Kyla sounds like from the course description you will love that new crank.

Now - somebody send flowing electricity thoughts our way.  It is hot as hell and we have no A/C.  :-(

Congratulations, Sam!!! Can I send you some 60F weather? We can meet in the middle. People were wearing fleece hoodies at our BBQ yesterday! I agree, Kyla, that new crank sounds like it's perfect for you but those few years on the standard crank probably made your legs super strong! Excited for you.

Awesome weekend, MG racers! Congrats on the podium spots, Suzy and Sam! Nice marathon time, David!

I"m still struggling a bit with nerves and mentality for my HIM in 2 weeks. We rode the  bike course on Saturday and then did a quick transition run. THe  bike was better/faster than I thought it would be, but the run was terrible. I"m not sure if it's just the end of peak training so I'm just tired or what. I know I didn't drink enough water on the bike so that would have impacted the run too. Either way, I'm feeling kinda thrown off.

I did a lunch time swim work out. But I forgot my brush. I walked out of the gym with crazy wild hair.Good thing I had a brush at the office.

Some questions to ponder:  Did you overcook the bike and pay for it on the run?, what was your sweat rate versus your fluid intake (note I didn't say just H20), was it in the 90s that day and should you have slowed down your pace?

I had a couple bads brick efforts last year and it really came down to not hydrating and taking in appropriate electrolytes for conditions, but that's just one potential cause to consider.

Well said on the whole  part, but the bold part is what I was thinking.  Did you throw down any salt tablet's at all?  That kind of heat will hurt, but it doesn't sound like you were cramping?  Pacing is extremely tricky in the heat.

Hey guys. 20 sec RR from my HIM:

Great swim for me: 2k 35:45 ish i think. Thats great for me!

90k bike : 2:49ish. POURING RAIN all ride long. Soaked to the bone.

21k run: I survived!! 2:15 ish.

Time was really irrelevant. I hadn't run long yet with the injury, so was happy to get through the run. I actually saved myself a bit on the bike(surprise!!!) for the run.

Now I'm ready to getting running again for IMC!!

Trevor.... Great day all considering.  3 hours of rain then running for 2+... You are mentally tougher after that race.  Brutal!  Great job!

Met a guy in our hotel after the race. He had his 910 kicked off his quick release about 200m into the swim.

That would suck!

No, I didn't have any salt tabs. I did have salt crystals on my arms so I wasn't retaining my electrolytes. I wasn't cramping on the run, but my legs just felt toasted. I've been thinking a lot about it. I don't think that I drank enough the day before and the morning of. I did run out of water around 45 miles in, but figured that sag would come by and I could get a refill - but I didn't run into him. I also think I went out too hard on the bike. It ended up averaging to a low Z4. My calves did get a little crampy between miles 30-40 on the bike, but they didn't hurt on the run.

And if I can be a Chicagoan for just a sec and say good grief hills are hard! THe bike hills were fine, but those two hills on the run course right out of transition were difficult! Not as prepared for that -  I went for a 2+ hour run on Sunday and my elevation gain was less than 10 ft, and that's typical!

i think i may see an issue.  :-)   slow it down.  looking at your logs and previous races, your run is not the issue.  as others have mentioned, focus on your nutrition and ease up on the bike.  you'll be fine.  (but that's a lot easier said than done, especially on race day)

Not really racing, but I will be joining 60,000 other runners in the morning for the annual Peachtree Road Race.  Up until the last few years this was the largest 10K in the world.  I have a subseeded number to start in the C corral, but that ain't happening.  I'll be running with friends from the W, X or Y corral and enjoying the shots, beer and pizza along the way.

Hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th!!

As someone who has done Racine twice in very high heat, let me offer a pice of advice.  Lock into Z3 on the bike and don't let it creep into Z4.  Those early hills on the run are worth taking VERY EASY or walking 10-20 steps during them.  There is no reason to cook the goose that early in the game.  I walked 6 times in my little 10K this weekend and came away with a respectable pace given the heat.  If I hadn't walked then, I think I would have been walking the last mile.

I wanted to wish everyone a HAPPY FOURTH before the celebrating begins!!!  Enjoy your time with family and friends.

Yours truly picked up the UGLIEST rash between yesterday and this morning.  I itched coming out of the water, but toweled off and showered asap. I thought I was fine until I woke up this morning.  I had what looked like 5 or so HUGE mosquito bites on my neck.  By the time I got back from my run there were over 20 covering my face.  More and more popped up until I finally went to urgent care (not the place to be in Minocqua over the Holiday).  Docs had no idea (two looked at me), but gave me 7 days of prednisone.  Hopefully that will help.  I hate being UGLY!

AAAKK!!   so sorry - ugly hurts.  Unknown, itchy ugly is 10x worse.  Prednisone, while often helpful, is horrid.  Hugs!!!!

Holy aggravation Suzy.  Who knows what could have happened?  Hope it goes as fast as it appeared.

Rash is a little better although now I'm swelled up like a balloon due to the prednisone!  Docs are baffled to the cause, but I am sure it had something to do with being in the lake.  Our normally super clear lake was full of pollen and who know what else!  Fingers crossed my long run goes off without a hitch. It's already steamy.

Enjoy the Fourth and all it has to offer you!

Hi Suzy.   Bummer!!  The rash sounds terrible and "swelling up like a balloon" doesn't sound like the right warmup for a long run.  Cut yourself some slack and re-schedule for a couple days later in the week.  Do a short run or bike instead and see how your body reacts.

Hmmmmmm....I'm guessing you have already gone out the door for that long run....
