Got here with the family last night. Staying at the Northwoods Inn. Definitely a "no frills" place but not as bad as some of the online reviews. More like an upgraded dorm room lol, but the location is great and we have an awesome view of Main Street and Mirror Lake.

Currently 8am and can see lots of people doing laps.It was fairly quiet last night. We went for a walk down Main Street and passed by the expo and transition area. Very hard feeling to describe... you could actually feel the energy and excitement even though nobody was there. It was like being center ring of the title fight the night before and you could close your eyes and imagine what is coming. The sight of the empty bike racks was awesome.

As far as local weather, 90 with chance of thunderstorms today, 80's and sunny for Friday and Saturday, and 70's and partly sunny for race day with low humidity.

Heading to breakfast, then to register and pick up my race wheels this morning, then do some olympic tourist stuff today (bringing the bike with me so I can ride the descent and bears). Drove up the descent on the way here and all I can say is HOLY . After seeing the hills it also made it an easier decision to use the 11-28. I have a spare new 12-27 SRAM cassette if anybody needs a last minute change. Still in the box and you are welcome to borrow it.

And props to MyAthleteGPS - it was here waiting for me yesterday.Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow morning.

I took Fred's recommendation and rode the descent to Keene this morning.  Since my accident and injury all of my rides have been on the trainer.  Once I got back on the open rode I noticed I lost my nerve...it was good to do the ride so as to settle any anxieties about that stretch.  Definitely will be out of the aero position on the steepest sections though.

Just picked up my packet. There is something about seeing your race number that makes it feel more "official". Also, I was one of the first ones through registration so I got a some free Orion goggles from TYR.

The K nail salon on Saranac is good (we're doing pedicuresres there tomorrow) -- you can always do a quick polish change.

packed, got my magic pants on, sitting at the airport. Will be in LP late late late tonight. I am going to try and make it to the swim tomorrow at 9am, but really depends on when we get in. Can somebody remind me where we are meeting? I will be wearing an Auburn Triathletes T-shirt. Looking forward to it!

Hey Guys,

I'm in for the swim too. Hope you don't mind, but I'll be two-timing you. My Start-Tri buddies from IMLP Training Camp are doing their swim at the same time!

Ralph

P.S. Did a run around the lake this morning. Swim course looked a hell of a lot longer from the far end of the lake than it did from the beachSurprised

This is not a good thing....went to the ART tent this morning, saw a nice guy named Pete. I asked him what he could do about a "hot spot" on my hamstring that acts up now and again. I tore this hammy in 1996 so I know there's scar tissue in there (adductor). After a few test he said he's never seen a hamstring like mine beforeFrown He didn't say this because my hammy's are so impressive. I'm going back to see him again tomorrow.

I'll be the guy on the course Sunday held together with bailing wire and tape!

My leg will have to fall off in order for me not to finish this deal.

Ralph

Logging off work for the rest of July :-)

Hobbling up to LP tomorrow from NYC - 4am depart.  My knee is still buggered but thanks for asking kr140.6....   I have had millions of PT sessions on my knee and other hamstring.  So much rest (too much i think) so maybe it`ll work in my favour.

Sounds like everyoen has pretty much settled in LP

Do not drink all the 46ers before i get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck all

Chris B

Looks like I will not be making into town in the morning for the meet-up swim. Just got settled in and my bags all packed and ready to go. Probably go through them 5 more times before dropping them off though .

I'm probably hitting up a swim before the dinner though. Anyone want to meet up at the dinner and have a BT table?

VERY hot here today, but looking great for Sunday. Picked up my wheels as planned from Racedaywheels and had the shop next door mount my new Specialized Mondo Open Tubulars and Latex tubes. POP - the hack in the shop pinch flatted my first tube.

Somebody more experienced mounted it with the spare I brought.

After some family time, wife agreed to be my sag wagon while I rode parts of the course. Got about a mile into the Keene descent and POP goes my back tire. Rather than mess with another spare and my CO2 my sag wagon was only a couple of miles ahead and swung around for me. Drove the rest of the loop and back to the bike shop. They found a small gash in my sidewall so tire is not usable.

I've ridden crappy roads for a LOT of training miles without a single flat, so tomorrow morning I'm swapping my race tires back to the Conti 4000s that came with the wheels. Oh well. Just dropped $55 very quickly in tubes and labor.

in any case, for those of you on thinner tires I would seriously reconsider with the roads and scattered gravel. Also was very surprised how much the wind was whipping my bike around with the Zipps. I consider myself a strong (not to read fast) rider and I couldn't hold aero safely down the descent. Be safe out there! Glad I found out the tire issue BEFORE Sunday! Anybody have any issues with the Conti 4000?

Hi Everyone.  I rode up to the start of the Keene descent today and throughout the 7-mile ride is tons of asphalt kernels!!  They were popping up in the air like popcorn, getting stuck in my P2 wheel cutout.  I think because it was so hot today, that was a culprit.  Just be prepared for this on race day.  It's NOT a big deal.  I'm going to back my wheel a few centimeters away from the cutout.  If we have a cool day the asphalt may not heat up as much and this may not happen.

I wonder what % of the field would consider a DNS if it was not wetsuit legal??

Any thoughts??

zero.

I did IMKY sans wetsuit, and all things being =, I'll take the wetsuit. I don't worry about what others are doing, I can only control me, and ME likes wetsuit!! Last year water was warm and I used sleeveless suit, it was OK, but as long as it's legal, I'm going for the full monty.

Just and FYI, Mirror Lake felt around 68 degrees to me.  I was shocked how cool it felt.

Made it down today! I'm staying out in Saranac Lake. Not very far from LP. I've still got to rebuild my bike...I think that will be my post dinner mission. Just watched the Tour stage! Need to get my wheels from RaceDayWheels tomorrow and check in.

Hope everyone made it down safely!

Hello! I'm here as well! Had a nice run along mirror lake this afternoon.

The swim map was on page 96 of this thread. There is an X on the map at the corner of the tennis courts - But the tennis courts are now one big black pavement lot FYI. See you tomorrow at 9!

OH I hope to meet you Sara!! I read your race report from last year over and over!!! It is my go to race report ... I plan to try to copy everything you did and keep your attitude throughout (I don't swim nearly as fast though)Smile

Kate

Hi Kate!!

It's good to hear my IMLP RR was helpful to someone. =) I tried to put a lot of thought into it, especially for a first-timer.  Good luck with your race!

Hey Witty.  My friend Mike (mscotthall) was raving about your RR.  Said it made him very emotional.  He's too cool to post on this message board, so I thought I'd do it for him.
