my focus is on Oly's this year so mostly just trying to go faster

my focus is on IM this year so mostly just trying to go slower.

 update:  IT WORKED!!!!

LOL.

EDIT: though it does make sense, when you go up in distance it takes awhile to get that base down so more work is done going longer, and less on going faster.    I've heard people complain before how the lost a lot of shorter distance speed when doing marathon or IM training.

Bearing in mind the facts that I was born in Manhattan and grew up in the greater NY area, for me I cannot imagine a course I would want to do LESS! 140.6 of some of the least inspiring miles I can think of and I do not believe there will be crowds of people yelling out support on the bike or run routes. The area just does not lend itself to that kind of behavior. Add to that running over the GW bridge and it is a non-starter for me regardless of the price.

Ummmm... So what is everyone's thoughts on Ironman NYC?

WTC Ironman US Championships NYC 2012

It really mostly in northern new jersey and NY as only the swim is totally in the city, blocking off a bike and run route through major portion of the city for 17 hours would have been impossible as new yorkers complain and petition about everything so someones city council rep would have had a field day if they tried it.

i can't wait to see the price.

$1000.  not sure if thats funny or not.

Where did you get that?  I was poking around this morning but couldn't find it.

Not funny - not funny at all.  What is less funny is that it will sell out - quickly.

here.   agree.  its not funny.   i'd go to the new race in montreal long before i'd go there.  and not just because of the price.

Tony, next weekend is a stage race in Hagerstown. I go watch part of it every year. This year they are having a kickoff crit. on Friday night too, one of the only night crits on the coast. You should do it!

SSMinnow - 2011-06-08 3:31 AM Dang it's early, but it's still WEDNESDAY!!!  Who is planning some bigtime racing this weekend?  Spill the beans!

Olympic for me this weekend.  Have no idea what to expect with this course, going to the town I grew up in (this is still under debate) to race and there is NO flat in La Crosse, WI.  Certainly not 25 miles of flat!  Probably will be racing against some old high school mates which will be awesome.  But, the real reason for the trip is to take care of some of my widowed Mom's business, so meetings all day Sat with the attorneys, financial guy, clean the garage, etc.

Tony ..... I may need to start using this excuse, does a HIM count?!  Laughing  But, I think you have to have been fast at some point before you can use it.  Foot in mouth

Looks like it's a mile shorter than I thought (5 rather than 6), but they added a few more obstacles.  Fun times!

Even though the price seems high a lot of the members in my Brooklyn Tri Club are planning to enter the race with the justification that the wont have to pay for flights, hotels, bike shipping, eating out, and poolside drinks for recovery lol . So for the "Locals" it makes some sense. I will sign up to volunteer though and may race it in a few years. It wont be the 1st ironman I attempt as for me I think the whole travel experience for races of this magnitude adds a lot to it

Good luck to all the racers this weekend and hopefully your blessed with good weather. No racing for me for about a month. Was supposed to start masters swimming today but have to push it to next week as I was extremely sore from a new strength training routine I am adopting 3 times a week. Next week my body should be somewhat use to it.

Sam and I went there quite a few years ago, very nice area.  Played lots of golf and ate a lot of good food.  It is a ski resort so figure there are lots of hills on the bike and run.

i took a ship in there in 96.  amazing city.  the St Lawrence seaway is amazing.  but lets talk beer...  before 9/11 things were a lot more fun.  expos are playing the reds and we're drunk! its a day game so its even more empty than normal.  we're walking around the stadium and there's an escalator that says no admittance.  HA!  down we go.  right down to the locker rooms and batting cages.  some bench warmer comes out of the dugout and down the hall to see whats going on.  he just laughs and lets us keep at it.  he tells security we're fine and off he goes.  security just shrugged their shoulders and left.  we were down there for several innings screwing off in the cages.  we get bored and head back up.  grab some seats behind the reds dugout and just heckle the crap out of deon sanders.  "those white line ain't coke bro!"  the canadian's thought it was the funniest damn thing.  there were some really good bars around that stadium.

good times!

Good Luck racing peeps!

I'm running the Edge to Edge marathon Sunday. Should be a beautiful and fun course. It's along the coast on Vancouver Island, BC.  Never been to that area before...  excited to head up there tomorrow!

Yes, it's Muddy Buddy.  We did it last year.  Although our chain broke less than 2 miles into the race (had to carry/push the bike) we had a ball.  Highly recommend it as a fun race!

Another one we have our eye on is Tough Mudder.   Although I have to be honest the "live wires" freak me out just a bit.

I am doing an Oly Sunday with Linda and Cheri!  Silicon Valley International Tri.  Hoping for good weather that is not too hot!  Will be soaking the wetsuit in the tub tonight to stretch it out.

Finished 5th in my race tonight, couldn't outsprint a 15 year old girl for 4th...

To make matters worse she and her coach asked if I was one of our 17 year old juniors dad...
