![]() DougRob - 2012-03-15 12:07 PM I do not know all the repercussions of saying "no." I do not know what my family wants/needs. There are a heck of a lot of issues involved. Cultural, my children's world, career future, extended family, costs, salary, responsibilities, etc. I am still in Germany and I will be discussing this at length with my wife when I return. I made her aware of the situation as best as I know it right now. I am trying to talk to my other boss in the US, the General Counsel. This is complicated.
Wow, tough call. Looks like you've got a handle on all considerations. It obviously makes it tougher with kids. But kids can be funny. I was a military brat and we moved every year there for a while. It killed me moving every year like that, but my sister loved it. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kkcbelle - 2012-03-14 10:48 PM No racing. I used to stretch quite a bit, and do quite a bit of Yoga. Especially after hamstring injury, I was really committed to Yoga and deep stretching... and I kept having insertion pain. It was getting worse. I jumped online just out of curiosity, and came across an overwhelming number of articles that linked yoga to hamstring insertion pain. Hmmmmm. So I stopped yoga. And I stopped stretching. And this pain that had been plaguing me for MONTHS went away. Go figure. I'm not anti-stretching -- I think it feels soooooo good. But I do see where one can over-do it and create potential problems. For now, not stretching is working. If I'm really sore I may do a bit, or do some rolling, but I'm not doing anything regular. That's all I got. Good luck racers. Crush your half MARY, Fatty! I giggled.... |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the support. This is a very odd situation. I have two bosses. My boss in the US and my boss in Germany (the one who wants me to come over). This is not the forst time he has suggested I consider coming to Munich. This time he made it "seem" like the days of my position in the US are numbered. I am not sure that is really the case. Robin and I will figure it out. FWIW I will explore my other options. AS some of you may know, we are Jewish. Both of my children will be bat and bar mitzvahed in the next 15 months. I want to do that in the US. We just joined a temple.Robin traveled extensively when she was single and to some degree she is open to the idea. The kids may be another matter and this is a tough egae to this to them. Money, the economy, taxes and extended family are all issues as well. Honestly I love living the the triangle area. I am not happy about the situation. (sigh). |

Makes us sound like we train 1.6 times more!!! I'd 12-28 for the race. John $50 for the watch. Kim - Pics of that new watch on your wrist would be appreciated. Wearing that hot pink jersey.
ETA: Not buying this photo, but since you asked so nicely, David and Trevor, please note the perfect fit of my watch...and the girly butterfly design...and of course, my new Clean bike bottle that gets hand washed. Being an expat seems like a great opportunity for you and something that will give your kids a whole new perspective on life and their own future. Of course, it is a HUGE committment by everyone and such a tough decision for all the reasons you point out. Good luck! Sounds like you need a good long run to do some thinking!!
ETA: Make sure any agreements you strike include round trip tix to Florida in November!!

Good luck, Doug, that's a pretty huge decision for you and your family. Totally!! Good luck!! That is a huge decision. Personally I would jump at the opportunity if it presented itself to us -- if I knew it were temporary and knew the timeframe. Our former neighbors and good friends did a 2-year stint in Munich and loved it. We visited them while they were there and loved it. They took full advantage of their two years and did tons of travel througout Europe. Their kids were younger than yours, which may affect things, but they had awesome opportunities, especially where schools and such were concerned. It was actually hard for them to come back to our educational system! Keep us posted!! Exciting! |

There are lots of 10Ks. There was only one of your best friend's father, and even if you and your friend aren't as close as you once were, this is a time when he needs all of the friends he has. Even if he's surrounded by family and other friends, you being there will mean something to him, and to you. Peace, my friend, and hugs. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am so not a funeral guy. I was thinking of running, then driving down for the social after. But from all your feedback, you say skip it. Interesting - i was planning on skipping it but Michelle suggested running it then go. Her thought was i was going for, my friend and not for the funeral. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Trevor, my best friend lost his dad a year ago. I was visiting my family at the time and had no formal clothes with me. I could not find a flight that would get me home and to the funeral in time and it still bothers me to this day that I was not there. Go to the funeral. Your support will be noticed and appreciated.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Wow! So many racers this weekend. Good Luck to all! :cough, cough: Deb- Beat Trevor! :cough, cough: Doug- Good luck with the decision. That's a toughie with the age of your kids. Just know that whatever decision you come to, it will be the right one. Trevor- Sorry to hear about your friends dad. I'm with fatty; go and enjoy the drive. No racing here. Need to get my head back in the swim game after my trap muscle spasm. Last attempt the pain returned about 3/4 into my workout. On the plus side I am making strides. Flip turns are slowly getting easier (ie I'm not charging to the surface to gasp for air) and accomplished 10x100s bw 1:40-1:50! Regarding stretching; I'm awfully inconsistent. I do light stretchingexercises while my gps watch is acquiring the satelite but after I fail if I'm rushing back to my desk, or right back into mommy mode with the kids all over me about taking a shower bc I'm "stinky and sweaty". I do try to get in at least one yoga session a week. I've found big differences bw instructors and the various types of yoga. My favorite is actually a tv yoga class broadcast by a local public tv station. Point being; shop around to find out what works for you. I have found that I need to stretch a little before and after swimming esp with my shoulder issue but also bc I get calf cramps occasionally. But again, not consistent. Even though the moving was hard it was all I knew and I don't know if I'll ever had the opportunities to travel the world like I did growning up. That had a major impact on shaping my views of the world. I'm sure your family will come to the right decision but the kids will reflect how you present it. Every time we had to move my mom said I had 2 days to pout, then it was time to look forward to the new adventure. Foot is feeling funky. Suzy you will be very proud of the coach. He didn't buy my funky anatomy excuse since I"ve never seen this before therefore he is re-writing my calendar to keep me off my feet. I see lots of riding, swimming, and water running in my future. Did some water running last night. I felt like such a fool! Anyone else do water running? For all our runners this weekend........ RUN LIKE SNOT!!!! |
