velcromom - 2012-07-05 3:55 PM Chiming in! We're 75 miles outside of Portland-and closing in quickly! Jeff and Zach are starting to stress, it looks like it could hit 90 on Sunday! We could have raced in CA with those temps! Kyla has some 'splainin to do!!But we're all jazzed. Can't wait!

Starting to remind myself how warm it was in CDA in 2010... it's all good!! Manage the nutrition, manage the effort. And I'm really excited that our forecast has 80 degrees every day next week! I'll take a little Portland heat -- cuz I ain't got no choice!!

Put Steve's fancy wheels that make cool noises on my bike yesterday. Test ride today and it's ready to roll! Dave has pulled through and cleared his afternoon schedule so we're hitting the road this afternoon, yay!! (Linda, dinner? I'll be in touch!) Of course I only learned when Dave would be ready to leave around 10:30pm last night -- until then I wasn't sure if we were leaving today or tomorrow, so I have a very busy morning.

In other news, my kids are tearing up the swimming pool and I am bursting at the seams with pride. They are seeing first-hand how hard work and dedication pays off (they haven't missed a morning practice since school got out) and I'm lovin' it.

LIFE IS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and I got to swim with Julia twice in the last two weeks, which was fun. And she ran on my trails, which was fun too! And I met her husband, which was really cool! It's been a good summer for us, all two weeks of it. Busy busy busy but fun fun fun.

Gotta get to work on making lists!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you're in the perfect frame of mind to race. Make it happen.  Make us proud!

My friends back home (including jslacker) will be racing in this tomorrow:

Water temp was measured at 83.5 yesterday, and it's only getting warmer. I'll take a hot day in Portland over a hot day in Muncie!

We're driving down tomorrow, hoping to arrive in time for the kids' adventure race. I'm doing the Oly, and since I've been run-focused this season I'm just aiming for a good run. It's been awesome to be able to swim and run with Kyla and Steve the last couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to meeting Linda and family, and Kyla's Dave!

Yeah it's supposed to be high of 105 here tomorrow.

Played my first full field lacrosse game last night, it was super hot.

I was amazed at how gassed I was after just a few minutes of running up and down the field.

Still a fun change from regular training so I'll be playing in a pickup game tomorrow also.

Good luck this weekend, racers! Go get 'em!

Thanks to your insight, I'm feeling much better about Racine. Nine more days! I was seriously worked up about it earlier this week. I'm going to make sure I stay in Z3 on the bike and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! I don't expect to feel fantastic when I start the run, but I certainly need to have enough energy to tackle those early hills on the run course. But on the bright side, I'm not concerned about the swim at all anymore!

Good luck racers! Can't wait to hear how you guys crush Rev3!

Taking a vacation week down on the Cape.  My #1 goal this week has been getting my son to finally swim solo. I'm so proud of how far he's come in 1 week.   Added benefit of all the time in the water is my daughter is right behind him.  I hope everyone had a great 4th.

I think they made the right call. Looks like it's PO'ing a lot of people, but there are 1500 volunteers out on that course who shouldn't be put at risk. It hasn't gotten much attention, but the water temperature is now up to 88.5 F, well above the 85 F maximum temp set by USA Swimming for open water events. That's dangerously hot.

Good luck Rev3 racers.  Stay safe out there and as cool as possible.  It is over 100 degrees and very high humidity in our neck of the woods.  I painted an outdoor chair this AM around 8 and was dripping with sweat.  Our pool is like a sauna.  Yuck!

So I have to know what got Julia censored?!?!?

Glad the heat broke Suzy - I think those storms are going to arrive here by Sunday night but I am a little scared after our last round.  Some poor people are still w/o power around Arlington - about 2 dozen.  So many big trees in our area and all above ground power.  Not a good combo when the wind snaps them like toothpicks!

What makes it so tough?

According to the guy leading the athlete meeting, it's the most physically and technically challenging bike course in all of the Rev3 series. There are 25 miles of steep climbs (same guy quoted 10-15% grades), and on the descents there is rough road, hairpin, and extremely tight turns. And we learned during the meeting that the only part of the bike closed to traffic is the super-wide road with a bike lane for about 10 miles at the end. Very happy to have my new 50-34... There were quite a few people at the bike mechanics looking to change cassettes, and they kept emphasizing proper gearing. Gonna be a day to earn that race medal!!! And a day for Linda to bite her nails until Zach comes into T2 safely!! It's all good!! As I said, I just need to adjust my expectations a bit, which is fine. Super glad to have driven the course (thanks again, Linda and Jeff!!).

Manwhile, my hubs and kids are off on a speed boat with friends for the afternoon! Meeting up with them for dinner later.
