dalessit - 2009-06-15 7:59 AM So whats on tap for this week.

3 weeks until my marathon training plan starts.

Having my "A" race so early in the season is tough, hard to get motivated for the rest of my races until the Marathon starts.

My BT plan says start taper.  Doesn't look like much of one.

Edit... Tony what mary plan are you using?  sorry i think asked this before.

runnersworld.com 16 week "hard" plan.

I really like their plans because you enter in a recent race time and it uses some sort of mcmillian type calculation to determine what your pace should be for your race.  All my runs have paces so my speed workouts are designed to get me faster than I currently am and doesn't leave it up to me to figure out how fast I should be running.

Other than getting a coach, can't think of a better way to get a customized plan.

I have another 100k bike ride on Saturday (Tour d'Italia) and an OWS clinic on Sunday.  Other than that, run 3 days - swim 3 days, ride 2 days.  Vacation starts next week!!!  Next tri is not until July 5th, so I have several weeks to train!

Doing my second Oly on Sunday as a "big training day".  Since it is the third week in a row for events, we are using this race mainly for the swim experience and testing a different fueling strategy.  I'm going in with HR caps for the bike and run.  The bike course uses a large chunk of IM WI and it is well beyond my capabilities right now.  I'm hoping I can make it up all the hills without walking.  Maybe I should have a triple, instead of a double with 12/27 gearing????

Suzy,  I have the same 12/27 set up and have been able to handle the climbing fine. My biggest climbing race, Savageman, is in the mountains of Maryland and my bike saw me through it. Just drop it into the granny gears, sit up, and spin.  You'll make it to the top.

My training this week is very up in the air right now.  My husband's father and his Thai family are moving into my house (yes, all the way from Thailand) until they find an apartment in my town.  I've met this woman (wife # 3 who is 5 years older than me) and her kid  (now 13) once, the dad 3 times, and yet we are all going to be one big happy family right?  Sorry, don't mean to sound nasty.  Things have just been quite stressful around my house preparing for this.  Who knows, my training hours may go way up due to wanting to get out of the house!!!  But if I can survive triathons I can survive this right?  Sorry, I'm just nervous and stressed out here.

Not at this point in time.  We should post in the TX forum about it though when it gets closer.  We need a BT tent or something at these events...

I feel your pain and worry. While my in-laws are not from a different culture, about two years after my my wife and I married, the IL's sold their house. Normally that might not be a bad thing, but11 years later they still have not bought a new house, and have no plans to. The first 7 months after they sold their house they lived with us! It got old...fast. They go to South America for thw winters, but thier age and the economy is making that less of an option. They had planned to move there permanantly, but they never took the steps to be allowed to live there.

They are due back at my house in less than 2 weeks. We have established a 2 week rule. They cannot stay longer than 2 weeks in a row. Last year they stayed with my SIL's family, but their house is smaller than ours, and they have had enough too. We'll see what this summer has to bring. (Oh, boy can't wait!)

My advise is to discuss things with your husband, and if possible set up some time limits. It is MUCH easier to handle if you know when it is going to end. It is amazing how much having others under your roof can change your family dynamic.

Good luck.

Doug

P.S. We are here to set up training rides/runs that you HAVE to attend, to get you out of the house (for mental health. Laughing ).

I just got home from my long ride for the week.  I made it 40 miles.  It was my longest ride yet, but it was cake.  My riding partner and I rode two wide and still averaged 16.75 miles per hour.  He was in front, showing me the route and I was on my brakes a bunch.  I am feeling so much better about Augusta.  I feel like I could have done another 20.  I missed my swim yesterday, so  figured that since I feel so good, I'll throw that in too.  Why not?  Hope everyone has a good week.

No need to apologize. Vent away.  When my in-laws show up and things get a stressful I'll throw the running shoes on to escape them for a while.  Their visit can be a good thing too.  My garage and truck are never cleaner than when they are here.  Hey, you might get some good Thai food out of the deal.   I might suggest though that if you can survive this you can survive triathlons instead of the other way around.

Of course if you do need to get out of there, registration for Buffalo Springs is still open.  I have a hotel room w/ two beds.Innocent

In a few of my previous posts I have mentioned not feeling well since just after my 5K run for the challange. I went to Germany for a week right after that and have still not felt 100%. My wife and son have also come down with the same symptoms. Jake's coughing has gotten so bad my wife took him to the doctor today. Turns out he has bronchitis. He is not strong enoughto fight it off quickly so he is going on antibiotics. I havemanaged to get through it without medication, but it looks like that is what I have been fighting for 2+ weeks. My wife is on the upswing too. I cant imagine this has helped my times.

I am going to need a new excuse if I suck at my next tri.Smile

For the most part.  I was a little light on the Gu and water - 1 gu and a little less water than I had planned, but I know better for next week.  I was feeling the effects a little bit after I got home.

I will definitely use that this comong winter when training for the next mary.

I got my race results, so I guess I did race after all.  Event people said they did not have my age and that was the issue.

Bright spot was my swim where I was 9/35 in my age group.  But it was downhill from there.  Actually did well on the bike at 19.4 mph, which was good for me, but dropped me back to 19/35.

Then the run ... where I came in a good solid LAST!   I think I was a good solid 6 minutes slower than the next to the last guy in the age group, so he can feel comfortable in knowing that he can have time to stop and take a crap in the woods if need be and still not be last in the run on the next race   I guess I know where I need to work, but considering I couldn't run a mile in October, what can I expect.

Race Report is finally up.

i'm still two weeks out but the weather watching has begun... and i know I'm not the only one doing it

101 in Lubbock tomorrow but then it settles back down to the upper 90's.  a few years ago race day high was 113.

Barry--this is your first tri FCOL!  Did you finish last in your AG? did you finish last overall? No, so shut up and train some more for running! You did terrific and I bet you looked MARVELOUS!  When I did my first 200y/10m/5k tri last summer I was like a chessire cat coming out of the water.  I couldn't have cared less where I placed.  You shouldn't either.  Save that for the HIM.  We are expecing hardware then!
