riorio - 2013-03-07 11:13 AM I was even more excited today when I found out that my son now has the XC record for his school...he just mentioned it casually at breakfast this am He has his first Mtn bike race this Saturday as part of the series my husband is racing....I am hoping this race, along with his success at XC will make him change his mind about playing football in HS next year! I can only hope!

I'm hoping with you. I was so relieved when my 12 year old announced he wanted to run cross country instead of play football in the 7th grade. I tried to play it all cool, but inside I was singing hallelujah! lol

ETA: I forgot to say congratulations on the school record. That is amazing!

Still having trouble with recovery.  My legs are unusually sore and tired.  I suppose some of it is from the travel and getting back into it but it is quite unusual for me, even after long travel.  But this is the first time I have also had noticeable swelling in the legs from the flight so who knows.  I am thinking maybe it could be the malaria meds as well.  Today was the last day so we shall see what the next few days bring.

Sunny and warm and perfect running weather today.  Heavy rain tomorrow changing to heavy snow.  sigh.

I'm sorry you're not bouncing back like you want. Meds can do funny things, so maybe that's the issue.

Our weather sounds the same. It was 70 today. Tomorrow the rain starts, then stormy rain storms. No snow. I'm just hoping for nothing too severe. I'm not ready for tornado season yet (even if we did have an all-city drill earlier this week).

On the training front, I swam at lunch and ran this afternoon. I feel okay. My sinuses and everything attached to them still ache, but, oh well. It's only temporary. Once I found out it wasn't strep, I told myself to HTFU and get on with my life. lol

GoFaster - 2013-03-07 11:22 AM Wasted workout today.  Tried to swim at the new gym, but had to get out after 15min - I was shivering cause it was so cold.  I know the pool is a bit chilly, but jumped in this morning and it was like an icebox.  Just couldn't get warm in the water.  When I spoke to the front desk they said someone had already arrived to work on the heater - gym's been open for just a week.  Hope they get it resolved quickly.

Bring your wetsuit next time.

I'd totally do this.  Before my last HIM it was getting pretty darn chilly in my pool but I was too lazy to go to the heated pool so on went the wetsuit.  Turned out to be the best thing ever cause I got super comfortable in the suit (vs the once every few months use) and the suit loosened up nicely, very pliable.  It is the best OWS I have ever had after that.  I just made sure I rinsed it well but I did that for two weeks with no problems to the suit

So, I had posted about getting new race gear for this year.  I had wanted a kit from a local shop called Tri Lab but they never had their S together, and had maybe 1 large and several smalls.  Well, I finally got to the point where I could wear a large.  But they had no large tops.  On a lark, went to the women's section, and they had an XL...  Hmmmm..... tried it on, and it fits fine    I had to make sure there was no estrogen delivery system in it or anything, but it's identical to the men's

So I will be proudly racing in women's clothing this season

Kim, my rule of thumb for travel to/from Asia was that it took at least 1 day to recover for every day I was abroad.  Africa is close to the same in terms of time difference and travel time. Give yourself a few more days.  I know nothing about malaria pills.

As for weather, it is snowing here. Again. BUT....my weather app says 54F this weekend. In an amazing stroke of good planning, I took my bike to the shop yesterday to adjust/fix a few things I probably should be able to do myself.  Picking it up tomorrow. Hoping for some nice riding this weekend.

There are probably local laws about not wearing pants in public. You're a lawyer. You should know this.

Have I mentioned doing the IMMT run in Lululemon shorts (mens, not my wife's)?  The truth is slowly leaking out...

I had no idea that Lululemon had men's clothes!

Chris: the difference is usually only in the width of the arm holes, that's the only way I know that I have put my hubby's tri top on by mistake.

Got a really nice (unintended) compliment last night that made me feel good!  I was swimming in our Master's group last night with a guy I'd not swam with before.  We got to talking and I asked him about his background (he was a competitive swimmer through high school and part of college) and then he asked me if I'd been a competitive swimmer....even after having seen me in the water!

I guess if you fake it long enough, it becomes true   I've only been swimming since last February (so just over a year now) and am finally feeling somewhat competent, so that was kind of cool!

ART for my knee/leg this afternoon, then heading to a new (to me) bike shop to see if we can figure out my saddle/chafing issues.  Would be nice to stop thinking about the pain in my crotch and focus on the pain in my legs!  Then it's weekend time!!  Hope everyone has a great weekend

Pool swim, and the whole race looks pretty cool! I am a very good skier, but only so-so skater (that is just one of the finer qualities of growing up in Alabama). But I could probably still make 5k on an oval without breaking both ankles... My favorite part is the "Please DO NOT wear any elastics or bracelets on your wrists as it confuses the swim volunteers."

You should email the race director and ask where else you could wear them that would be less confusing.

Strava has given me a new purpose in life...LOL.

Both the hubby and I woke up with sore throats today! Noooo! I'm barely over the last cold I had. Today is the last day before 2 weeks of Spring break and we have a lot of stuff planned, I really don't plan on getting sick!

It's our wedding anniversary this weekend (17 years). Hubby and oldest have a Mtn bike race on Saturday, and my BFF is also racing (she'll win). Then the hubby and I were planning to go to Tucson on Sunday then ride up Mt Lemmon on Monday (that's what normal people do for their anniversary right?). Fingers crossed we are healthy enough to do all that!

It's raining here in AZ again, seems like every storm comes through on a weekend. Going to do an indoor workout today and just do whatever I feel like this weekend. I've had a few big weeks and it's time to let my body rest a bit
