Water was nice today. I think I got a few stings but I am surviving. I think it will be too hot for a wetsuit for me. I have a parking question. How early do I need to get here to get street parking? Am I better off with the shuttle? I am staying at the Hampton in Fruitland.

Dude?  3rd in your AG didn't get you a Vegas slot.  Crazy.  There were slots all over the place that were rolling down.  Sorry to hear that and good luck in RI

Well...I did not meet my time goal but I am pretty proud of myself anyways.

It was pretty awesome being surrounded by such terrific athletes.

I had to switch from goal of hitting a particular time (6 hours) to goal of finishing my first HIM.

Here's my race report.

Congrats to everyone!

It was a great race.  And it seemed to be not as hot as last year.

I improved my time by 45 min, but still far from being qualified for anything - #89 in my AG M40-44

I'll be back next year.

Big Fat DNF here.

I had food poisoning on Tuesday and never really recovered my electrolytes and hydration.  I actually PRd the swim but it fell apart during the bike. Never made it out of T2.  Ended up in the medical tent after I couldnt find my way out of transition. Someone saw me wandering around and pulled me out.

It is good someone was alert and you didn't start out on the run course.  I hope you are feeling better.

I had a great time for my 2nd eagleman.

Last time I did this race, it was my 2nd HIM at the time and it BROKE ME.  To date, it is my worst time for an HIM and worst swim and worst run.

Sunday was a different type of race for me than usual... as opposed to doing the best I could, I was going for under 5 hours or bust.  I knew the paces I had to do to get there and paced myself appropriately on the swim (PR) and bike (PR)..

At mile 3 on the run I was still on pace... and then it fell apart.

I was not well trained enough to hit my sub-5 goal on a day with that heat.

That said, I'm not mad, I'm proud of myself for going out at the paces I needed to be at and taking it as far as I could on a hard day.

Great times!

Thanks, i felt much better after 2 bags of IV fluid. Its amazing what that stuff will do for you.  people were being carried into the med tent looking like death, and walking out just fine after a few bags of fluid.  That night i actually felt better than I had all week.  Wish i would have gone to the doc and gotten a bag or two of fluid before the race on friday or saturday.  Probably would have been fine.

I had a very good race compared to last year as well. 37 minute PR. That said, I wonder if the swim was long last year. I cut 8 minutes off of last years time and I dont think a wetsuit would have assisted me that much...

I came close to breaking the 5 hour mark as well, but still very happy with a 5:04:45. Last year I just about died on the run. This year I think I was just mentally ready for it and dropped 13 minutes on the run alone. Only walked the water stops on the back half and they were just quick ones to make sure I got as much fluid/ice as I could.

Hope to race it again next year and go sub 5!

Well done man! Bummer about the slot being grabbed, but you'll definitely get one at Providence. If you can get 4th at Eagleman, you will do VERY well there.

I've never raced in heat like that and wasn't sure how I would react. By no means a PR, but overall happy with how the day shook out though. Decent swim, bike was mediocore and the run was my highlight.

Great chatting with everyone leading up and appreciate the insight everyone gave.

Thanks! I am hoping to break 4:20 at Providence. While it maybe a more challenging course compared to Eagleman, I got 4:30 last year, so hopefully another 10 minute Pr is doable. Whether I qualify or not depends on who shows up so out of my control. I've got three weeks to fine tune the gears but most likely cannot boost my fitness that much

This was my second HIM and I had high expectations. Unfortunately, they were higher than the temperature! My first HIM was Beach 2 Battleship last year. At EagleMan there was less wind, I had aero wheels and helmet, and more training allowed me to improve my bike by almost 2mph over B2B!

I still have a long way to go and lots of miles to train. I also need to train more in the heat. It really hurt me on the run. I've never been dizzy beore from running, so this was a learning lesson!

I enjoyed myself overall and thank everyone for being such great supporters!

Just registered as well. Moved to MD 2 months ago and it's nice to have a scheduled race on the books. Have Bmore marathon this weekend then back in the pool and in the saddle. Can't wait. Marathon training drives my ADD crazy.
