Just a reminder about dinner on Saturday: For dinner at Mandina's (3800 Canal Street) Saturday, 5 PM, so far we have zia_cyclist (Tommy) and wife (2) And anyone else who wants to come out. The guy at Mandina's said they aren't busy at that time of day and should be able to seat everyone without any problems. |

I was bummed about the Gatorade and may have even said a few harsh things as I rode through yet another empty station, but Gatorade aside, I thought this was a really great race. The wind was killer, but it was still fun. Hope everyone had a great day! |

Could not believe that 3 hrs into a race with 3000 participants they would run out of fluids at the first bottle exchange. Good thing I brought a bottle of each to start with. But I was completely dry at the second. They did still have water & I had about 6 cliff gels stashed in my pocket. Thank goodness! |

This bike course was 100% closed to traffic, even an expressway. It was pretty impressive. The course was wide open and the swim as well. I took only one kick and minimal contact. |

Although I was prepared for lots of contact in the water & to be swum over, I experienced very little contact & nobody swam over me even though I was really slow. The bike course was not a problem. I didn't have any problems passing and I never felt like I was crowded on the road at all. I would not have known there were so many people racing from the experience I had. There were always alot of other racers around me, but I never saw big crowds of racers. I was BOP, though. |

New AG for me this year, maybe the chicks 35-39 are more touchy/feely? I few hands on my a$$ as the guys wave behind me passed by. On the course it did not seem to crowded, but it was hard to stay out of the draft zone with the wind. Would have been nice to have some bananas on the run course. |

It even beats Longhorn 70.3 (my next favorite race). The total race experience was awesome. The entire course was closed to car traffic - both bike and run. The race was well organized. The event went off on time. The finish line experience was great - Decatur Street was closed with the finish line in front of Jackson Square and the St Louis Cathedral. Probably the most elaborate finish line for a half. There was a gauntlet of people leading up to the finish chute...think Tour de France mountain stages. They were so tight I could stretch both arms out and high five both sides of the gauntlet. The finish chute was carpeted, flags, plants, good announcer - first class. The City of New Orleans and the RD went all out for this event. Awesome. I highly recommend this race. It will sell out once the word gets out. |

Never saw any significant drafting packs and never felt crowded on the course. By far the best bike course in terms of logisitics - how many races have a closed bike course? |

This was my first half and I'm doing my first full later this year so I have no point of comparison, but I couldn't agree with you more! That finish was such an unbelievable experience. It made the suffering in the final miles of the run disappear. I'm definitely doing this race next year again. After all my whining about winter training I think the pay off far outweighed the challenges. |

Veteran 351 Thibodaux | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I have to say, even though my tri experience is limited to the event, i've run a lot of road races, and the finish was awesome! Several locals approached me and asked me about the race afterwards. They didn't know about it beforehand and were really blown away wathcing the finish! My husband, Tim, commented that it was an incredible sight watching all the swimmers in the water and everyone going out on the bikes. He saw the pro's coming in & said that was amazing as well. Tim said he was standing next to a lady whose husband was also racing when they saw Macca come in. After Macca crossed the finish line, he sat down close to where they were standing. The lady leaned over and told Macca that he was her husband's idol and was the reason her husband was participating in the race. Tim said Macca stood up and hugged her and then gave her his finisher's medal to give to her husband. Tim took a picture of her with Macca's medal on. I'll post it later when he gets home. Isn't that an incredible story? The things we miss while we are racing, huh? |

I didn't notice the lck of Gatorade but I was in the third AG wave so I was probably ahead of it. I didn't take Gaotrade on the bike anyway as I had a full bottle in reserve. That finish was INCREDIBLE! Zia I too stretched both arms while running down Decatur. I will likely do this race next year. And Mammatris -- what a story!!! That's what tris are all about. The people! Everytime somone would be obviosly in distress on the run or bike, someone always asked if they were OK. Gotta love triathletes! |
