Very nice Dave, I'll be riding clinchers as well, after reading some horror stories regarding punctures

you guys are all doing great.. I am winding down for August and planning a good ramp up for all of September and October.. I have restrictions during the week because I get up at 0330 every day for work, I won't go over 2 hrs riding or running..  Otherwise, I can' sleep.. I'm licky if I get 5 hrs as it is...  Did a 2 hr biek tonight and did 30 mile stretch.. Got 1 hr swim tomorrow and 4 hr brick on Saturday.. Got 3 hr ride for next Saturday and that should get me to 40-45 miles.. I feel good and after bikes and runs, I am not sore.. That is a good feeling.. Especially after working all day in a warehouse where I have to wear steel-toed boots for safety.. Got 1 hr swims up to about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 miles.. Just an age-grouper looking to finish..  Hubby and I plan to be in Tempe on Tuesday afternoon, 11/17 and leave on Monday, 11/23.. I'd be up for a get-together but got family coming in Friday.. Well, off to bed as it's 11:30PM now...Gonna sleep in on my day off and enjoy it..

Lori... "Crying?!? Are you crying? There's no crying in Triathlon!"..

I will be on annual vacation for 2 weeks leading up to the race and will probably get into Phoenix the week before and would love to put faces to screen names. Plus I think it will be helpful to see others during the race that you sort of know for support and camaraderie. Sat. will probably be pretty full so my preference would be before Sat. but maybe not everyone will be in town that soon. My parents and in-laws both live in town so me the wife and 5 kids will be bunking with them.

I'd definitely be down for a gathering of BT friends either before or after the race. Of course, I say this now and I'm typically in the camp of getting myself way too worked up before a big race...so it may be in my best interest (and yours as well) if I lay low and find my inner zen the day before. We shall see!!

I'm excited!! We are going to have a grand time...I am coming in on Wednesday and staying til Tuesday the 24th. I'm up to meet for swims too as I plan to swim at least 2 but probably all 3 days before the race.  When we get closer, I'll post my digits and address so you can stop by or give me a ring when you feel like.  Say hello! That'd be great.  Thanks riorio for the offer of help...I'll keep it in mind for sure.

From my blog today, after the first ride on my new bike -

Book of Felt, Chapter 53:11 - Yea, and thou shalt fold thyself thricely and hammer down, letting not grimace nor curse pass thine lips, for thou shall trust in Jim.  Thou shall grow accustomed to elbows in thy navel and shall bearest the strain in thy forearms, for thou art forging thyself into an arrow of unmerciful speed.  Take pleasure in the roar of wind upon eardrums and beating in thy breast, and chamois upon Adamo, for thou art on the path to PR in six fortnights' time.

Haha, same for me...gonna have enough friends/family in town for the race to have our own BBQ the night before at our house before I attempt to actually sleep. I'm hoping to get down there in early November and have a few weeks to mess around in town while doing my taper (and hopefully compete at the agility nationals at Westworld with the big dawg). 3 months from today is race day!!!

Well, I think I am back in the hunt.  I was hit by a car about three weeks ago (while on the bike).  My bike is all fixed like new, most of my injuries are healed/healing, and beside a really sore back and neck, I am ready to rock.  Ran 4 miles yesterday and swam 1600 meters.  Biked 35 today.

I will have to build back up slowly and I clearly lost a lot of time and fitness but, I think I will make it to the start.  See you in November!

I would love to do that race sometime. I use to live in Swansboro NC and like to come back and visit from time to time. Unfortunately, it won't be this year but it sounds like a great course. How is the weather for that race???

So I survived my first century. It was a character-building ride to say the least. If we end up having a windy day on 11/22, I should be set considering how many of these bloody long rides have been 70% into the wind.

I now have no doubt in my mind that I can cover 112 miles...the question now becomes, how freakin' long is going to take me (I'm BOP on the bike, and I'm not afraid to own that). First 50 went swimmingly, pulling along at 15-16 mph (which for me is great over that distance) and things then started to go downhill. I ended up averaging 14.3 for the whole 105 miles. I hit a bit of a low point calorie-wise as well, so I need to make some adjustments to the nutrition plan as well since I found myself craving water more frequently and my concentrate bottle of infinit ended up being too watered down when I poured half of it into my aero bottle (added too much water to it).

Overall I felt really good about it. A few more rides like that will be just what I need to build my confidence up for the big day.

When it gets windy it is the sand that blasts you that hurts, not really the wind sheer.  However, the race was moved to November because it is not normally windy during that time of year in AZ.

Another way to look at the bike leg realistically is realize that it is three 38 mile loops of the same course.  In addition, it is a slight downgrade coming back into town on each loop.  Add the fact that spectators are highly visible so much of the race and those cow bells really do help on the motivation - I believe you will be just fine.

That said - DO dial in on your nutrition.  It will still be warm and dry which can do funny things to a person on a bike and a proper nutrition plan will certainly help with that!

See you all in just under 13 weeks!

I'm from Wilmington and if IMAZ weren't so close to B2B I would have definately done the marathon leg for you!  Hmm...keep me in mind for another year!
