Hi - how many aid stations are there on the run course? I always run/train with a fuel belt.   Because we are dropping off our bike/run transition bag on Saturday, I'm wondering what I will do about the fuel belt and filling the bottles.   I thought I read somewhere there are 18? aid stations on the run?  If so, I don't need no stinkin' fuel belt.

There are aid stations pretty much every mile on the run. Keith's races are well stocked and you definitely shouldn't need a fuel belt.

There are 7 aid stations per loop, so 21 aid stations, plus other various fruit, candy, wet towel, etc stations
You'll be well taken care of

Thank you!  WOW, 21 aid stations on a 13 mile run...that's amazing.  I will be hydrated, fat (depending on what kind of candy and happy as I roll across the finish line.  Next year I'm bringing all my friends from Arizona.

FYI, Travis County went out and fixed alot of the cracks for us. For the areas where the cracks were too big to fill, they actually repaved sections of the road. I'll try to get a contact address, as it'd be REALLY nice for folks to thank them. They didn't need to do this for us, but it's a big improvement!!!!!!

I was out riding the course yesterday when we came across a group of workers on the road filling the cracks.  We gave them the thumbs up and thanked them as we rolled through the work zone.  While I don't think they will get every road before the race, it certainly will help.

At least if I only run 1 or no laps, I should be able to let you guys know if you are fairly close together and one can slow down or the other speed up.

Hey Keith,

Question on the bike and run gear bags:

Doesn't seem like it should matter if folks set up all their bike stuff as they normally do as long as anything they're not taking is in the bag before they ride off.

Likewise it doesn't seem necessary that we jam all our bike gear away before heading out on the run, since that stuff isn't going to be transported like the swim gear is.

Why the requirement that everything be bagged up at all times?

Since it is going to be wetsuit legal, does a wetsuit really help?  I have never used one before and just happened to order one on-line since it was a great sale, $99 bucks, nothing fancy.

Does it alter your stroke in any way, and would it be wise to use one for this event since I have not used one before?  I can probably get 3 swim sessions in with the wetsuit before the HIM.

thanks for your thoughs.

You ABSOLUTELY want to practice in it BEFORE the race. Go to Lake Pflugerville, Barton Springs, or even out to Decker Lake with a friend to try it out.

If it is the right size (feels tight on land, but comfortable and floaty in the water) you should have no issues with it restricting your arm movements. The material is thinner under the arms, and you should hardly feel any restrictions. I personally have never raced in one (rented one for The Austin Tri, but didn't get to wear it,) but the general consensus is if its wetsuit legal, wear one.

Another general consensus is never try anything new on race day. You definitely want to practice. Not only practice swimming in it, but practice getting in and out of it. If you can get 2 swims in before this weekend with the wetsuit, that is plenty of time to get used to the feel of it.

Good luck at the race!

Cool

Sounds good, I will definitely do that then.  I just hope it fits the way it should then.  I will not have enought time to ship it back and get the next size up or down, and have it by Sunday.

Thanks for the info and heads up on what to look for and try!

With it or without it, it is going to be a great race!

How many people are going to the Hills Cafe party after?  Am I going to be up for this?  Or am I going to be fast asleep in my hotel room?  And anyone know how much is a cab ride from an airport hotel to the cafe would roughly be?
