Expert 769 Murfreesboro, Tennessee | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread KathyG - 2011-01-12 7:41 AM Here is an article on USAT website of one of our own 'triplebypat'. I met Patrick at IMFL in '09, saw him again twice in '10 and will be racing or 'participating' with him at IMFL '11. I do recall the BT lunch the day before the Lonestar 70.3 after sprint swim was canceled that he was going to try to register for the 70.3 the next day. Thanks for sharing. That's a very inspiring article. |

Veteran 239 Austin | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Thanks for all the support, folks. It was really exciting to get the acceptance of the story from USA Triathlon. Hopefully, there will be some awareness raised about the risks, costs and losses we suffer as a result of cardiovascular disease. Remind me to not be anywhere near Harvey during the race... sharks AND bears! what a guy, to survive all that and still be smiling when he crossed the finish line! And I still remember the look on Kathy's face at lunch when she asked who all was racing the LoneStar 70.3 the next day, and I raised my hand... Keep the rubber side down, and train healthy! |

Member 19 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I volunteered last year in the T1 area. The wetsuits will fit in the transition bag with no problem. It is a little chaotic in T1 so it most likely get stuffed into the bag. Don't expect to fold it nicely |

Extreme Veteran 483 St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Suit will fit in the bag without a problem, but you need to be careful. Bags have a draw string, when I tried to pull mine closed, almost the whole top of the bag parted along the heat seal, I handed it to a volunteer and said it was ripped, they were good enough to tape it closed so nothing got lost. T1 was a cluster #$@! on the mens side, My swim was 1:20 which I think put be in T1 at the busiest time, also, because of the cold I didn't use the wetsuit strippers on the beach, didn't want to get cold, so got out of my own in T1, no space to move let alone get ready. Both my transition times were terrible, putting some of the blame on the cold weather and having to put so many layers on. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I have a little trick that might work if you all keep it quiet haha. I ran to the corner of the transition where the morning bag drop offs were and plopped down and got changed there saving myself having to go in the clusterfack of T1 in the garage door thingy. I handed my stuff to a morning bag person and asked them to drop it in the t1 bags when they had time and off i went. I never use strippers anymore. i am much quicker than they are and you never have to ait if there is a line. all of this helped me to pass 300-400 people in t1 alone. that is whacked! |

Regular 87 Fort Myers, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread So how is training going for everyone? It has been a cold up here in Ohio so can't wait till spring to get out on the bike and hit the roads. The computrainer is great but nothing beats and 4 hour ride on a Sat. morning outside. Running a 10 miler when it is 5 degrees is just no fun. But overall training is going well for me. |

Running a 10 miler when it is 5 degrees is just no fun. But overall training is going well for me. Did my last tune-up run tonight to be ready for the 3M Half-Marathon this weekend. I am not a runner so I wanted to get this part figured out, and my wonderful Ironman/running coach laid out a plan for me. I have also been taking a swim class for the last 4 weeks to work on technique, and we did speed drills last night...ugh! But it gets more serious with the swim and the bike starting next week, so I will be ready for LoneStar 70.3 in April (maybe I should sign up for the sprint this time, Kathy?), and work through 2 more HIMs and some century rides between now and November. Keep the rubber side down, y'all. |

Congrats on doing the swim classes...I bet they'll help alot. I started with masters swim this year and realized how much work I have to do. Following the racingweight book by Fitzgerald to get the fat off...more grumpy than usual |

I really did not realize how bad my diet was until I read the book. Right now, I am getting prepared for The Gusher Marathon in March and then either the Lonestar 70.3 or Ironman NOLA 70.3 in April. Veteran 106 Gloucestershire, England | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I've been doing a bit of this and a bit of that (but not much running). Really enjoyed maintaining a base without following a dedicated regime. Now is the time to knuckle down - and everything changes on Monday as I'm beginning a training programme devised by my first ever coach (well apart from team sports like rugby, cricket and hockey at school). Columbia Olympic Triathlon first then quickly followed by Eagleman. A long way to go before PCB ! Adrian |

Commitment makes a HUGE difference! I miss the spontaneous train for fun of the off season, but being on a plan keeps focussed. Good luck on your next race. How do you like your coach so far? Is that private? or a team? |

Commitment makes a HUGE difference! I miss the spontaneous train for fun of the off season, but being on a plan keeps focussed. Good luck on your next race. How do you like your coach so far? Is that private? or a team? I am using a private coach. We have met a couple of times and discussed goals and objectives for the season and looked back at last season. I debated about going solo again this year and following an off-the-shelf IM training plan like I did for MiamiMan (Triathlete Magazine HIM one which seemed to work OK). But doing my first IM, having dodgy knees (and therefore I need something a bit more bespoke to survive the run training), and reading a bit about the positive experiences of having a coach here on BT, it seemed having the benefit of closer supervision from an experienced multiple IM finisher was going to put me in a better position to reach my goals. I'm in the lucky position of being able to afford it too. It still does feel a bit over the top though ! Adrian |

Regular 87 Fort Myers, FL | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I have a coach as well. So far it has been wonderful. This is also my first im. Having the coach has helped me stay consistent and healthy so far. This is important for me because I am coming off back surgery in july 2010. If you find a coach that will be avalible for questions on an ongoing bases when ever you need it. It has been a great investment so far. |

One thing I noticed is that I lost more bike fitness than anything else over the Holidays. I still swam and ran a lot, but the bike suffered. Can you tell the bike is my least favorite J And yea, I do have a trainer and promise to start using it more. Really I promise! |

I did the Sylvania Bud Lite Tri many times up there as I am sure you did. I am doing Florida Ironman this year and will be my first Ironman... My training is going very well here although it is very hilly where I live near Chapin,SC just west of Columbia,SC..I was so used to the flat land up there in NW Ohio where I had fast times in races..Now I train on mostly hills. Spring will be upon you there beofre you know it,,See you in Florida!!! (Triathlon Transition.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Triathlon Transition.jpg (44KB - 5 downloads) |
