Massage once a month, was seeing a Chiropracter now I am seeing a Physical Therapist. It was a hard morning with my PT. She video taped my run gait. She noted my right leg seems to want to cross over the mid line but my knee brace helps with that some, i forgot what she said holds you leg in the right plane, but whatever it is mine is weak, so I continue to do my exercises 4 times a week isolating my weak areas. I also seem to carry my arms high. She would like me to carry them a bit lower. I am a mid-foot striker when I land.Oh.....and my own view of the video...I could stand to lose some weight!!! |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread If they videoed and analyzed my run, they would say give it up you suck at running! haha I don't think I am more hungry after the swim, but I wouldn't be able to tell because I just feel hungry all the time right now.
My husband rode with me this weekend and near the end of the ride he came up to me and said "It is amazing how much bigger your thighs are." Now for most women, they might get mad at a statement like that by their hubby. I was SO HAPPY! haha. I have always been a stick, so this just means I am finally getting some meat and muscle on my bones. Yay! |

I'm planning on being far lazier this time around. My first IM (Redman, OK City), I basically gave up everything else. Didn't go camping. Planned everything around my workouts. This time around, I'm going to go camping several times beforehand, and I don't really mind missing a week to recover. I guess having one IM under my belt makes me more confident. |

I don't think my body nor my wife will be able to take another round after this. Sounds like you are doing it the right way and taking in those enjoyment periods to keep you into what really matters. |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Get better, Brian! I was just listening to the MaccaX podcast and they were talking about how low the immune system is when training for an IM. I am crossing my fingers that since I am a teacher and I am in contact with 180 sneezing, breathing, germy kids everyday I don't get sick.
Ran a slow 9 miles on Saturday and rode a slow 57 miles yesterday, so I wasn't looking forward to my normal Monday run. I was so excited when I just looked on the schedule and I don't have a run today. Yay! I only have a swim today and that is as good as a rest day to me! Woo hoo! |

Veteran 395 Henderson,NV | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Well, I completed a Spartan Race over the weekend, I should have been more excited about it, but it was more about getting yet another distraction out of my way and get on with my training. It was slow , I didn't want to re-injure my ankle, but it was alot of fun. Speaking of fun, I have a 3 hour training ride scheduled for tomorrow, now that's fun! How was everyones weekend? |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I have met several people on the road who say that they have done Vineman. They all have nothing but great things to say about it. However, I am sort of worried about enjoying the swim. The swim is my favorite part of triathlon. I read that the river is shallow and there are parts where your hands will actually drag the bottom. I can deal with that, but the other day someone told me there is a sand bar where everyone has to basically stand up and run across. Anyone on here done this race before? Is the swim just a mess or can you get a rhythm? |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I believe there are spots were this happens. On a video I watched on You Tube you can see people walking along the swim route but they were very close to the far shore line. They have bouys telling you the depth of the water as you swim. One of the walking areas I heard is at the far turn around. I think the pool I swim in at either end is about 3 1/2 ft. deep and I swim in that just fine. Edited by TriGuyBri 2013-04-09 9:53 PM |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread The wound on my toe is healing. I slathered it with 2 coats of Skin Shield before venturing into the pool today and it was fine. WHEW! I power walked on it yesterday for 20 minutes without pain, so am going to try for a run tomorrow. But I lost about 10 days of run + swim training (my left arm was literally disabled from the tetanus shot they made me get). I'd like to say it was "Ironman brain" that made me trip over that dang paint can, but in reality I think I'm just clumsy But my advice as we all ramp up the training is to PAY ATTENTION! Don't want to be sidelined for something as silly as tripping, like me. |

That is so frustrating! Glad to hear that you are going to be able to get back on track.!
I am bummed because I feel like just when things seem to be going steady I pinched a nerve (again) in my back/neck. It is the same spot that I have done before. Chiro and massage don't help it get better...just time. Ugh. Going to have to skip my long swim today because I can't really turn my head or move my right arm without discomfort. I am going to try to run, but not very hopeful that it will be a good run. The only positive is that I know from this happening often that I will be back at it in 3 days or so. |

So very true! Getting to the finish line is the difficult part. The actual race is the reward! :-) I am using Vineman as a training race this year. My "A" race is the Double Iron in Virgina in October. It really will be amazing if I can stay healthy and uninjured with the big volume of training needed for a double iron distance. Hope everyone that is struggling with illness and injuries has speedy recovery and get back to training soon. |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I have missed two marathons (both due to injuries). One of them I just didn't go and the other I moved down to the Half Mary due to so much missed training. I just need to get to the starting line somewhat healthy and give it a BIG GO! Can't wait. My lower back and hips are slowly getting better. Still somewhat hard in the morning. Get well everyone. |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I was just saying the same thing to my husband last night. The race itself is nothing compared to the hours and hours of mental and physical training we go through to get to race day. Slowly, but surely we will all get there!
Double Irons, by the way, must be the nuttiest thing ever invented! That is beyond my understanding! Yikes!!! |

Expert 767 Littleton, Colorado | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread After six weeks of being sick off-and-on, I finally went to the doctor yesterday. Doc says I have a sinus infection. Hopefully the antibiotic works quickly. I never had such an issue with illness in prep for either of my other ironmen (or any race season, for that matter). Here's hoping we are all getting this stuff out of the way, and will be healthy from here on out! |

It is fine. I don't have to work at it too hard. Just trying not to go crazy with the food. The training takes care of the weight loss. I don't want to lose it too fast. |
