One looooong day on jury duty and I missed so much fun!  Cougars go grrrr, not oomph.  Innocent

Kyla, I cannot believe there is only one weekend between now and your big day!  Astounding.  592, I've memorized it, we'll be watching!

No racing for me.  I have signed up for a swim lesson next Monday and I hope that there is a way to fix me.  I seem to have gone from semi slow to slow as molasses even in the pool these days, I will not give in without a fight.  I want to be friends with the swim!  (or at least be cordial)

I also need to find a good long sleeve wetsuit with good flexibility in the shoulders for all of the sub 60F swimming I'll be doing to practice my OWS.

Good luck to all of the racing peeps!

Well, well, well....another week is flying by which means it's time to talk about RACING!!!!  Who is planning to do a little something?

If you're not racing, check in with us and let us know how your training is going so far...any ups? downs (Fatty!)? Ahead of your plan or scrambling to keep up?

I am doing my first Oly of the summer on Sunday.   It is in a coastal town named Sakata and I did the race last year too.   My swimming is shaky at best, but I can revert to sidestroke if necessary.   The bike and run are flat and I'm expecting an improved time at least on the bike.   If I have some oomph left over and the heat/humidity isn't too bad, I may be able to better my run time too.

You won't see my RR until Tuesday - we're spending a couple days visiting friends after the race.

I really like my Xterra Vendetta, but I would say the Blue Seventy Helix has greater shoulder flexibility.   The good news is if you want to stick with Sleeveless for MOO, you can.  Temperatures are usually very comfortable.

Good job signing up for the lessons...and the OWS!

Good luck Dan!!! Enjoy the race and the downtime afterwards.

No racing for me...my oldest kid turns 13 on Sunday and I tried to persuade her to let me sign up the whole family for a fun run - 10k for me, 3km for them - but for some reason she wasn't happy with the idea????!!?Laughing

I had a wierd swimming experience last night, I stopped by the pool near work for a late swim and started a nice easy session with lots of drills and after a few hundred metres became really dizzy. I tried to keep going but then nearly threw up; luckily I was the only one still swimming at that time.

Not sure if it's an after effect from last week's flu or a sort of motion sickness brought on by not being able to see much due to goggles constantly fogging up in the cold air??

Anyway, I'm not trying swimming again for a few days...

Hey Peeps. I ran across a new BTer, KC7, in the Introduce Yourself Forum and told her to stop by. She has overcome some pretty amazing things (cancer, open heart surgery and divorce) and lives in greater DC. Since we have 3 members in that area here I figure we could give her some support she is looking for. Hope your all ok with this.

Doug

As one of the DC'ers, I would be happy to.

Rather happy with my results tonight.  I figured I was going to get pummled as I moved up to the "B" race.

Was able to hang the whole time no problem.  Crash going up the final hill took out 3-4 people right next to me, one bike actually hit my rear wheel and I went within an inch of a guys handlebars that were on the ground...

Finished maybe 15th ish out of 50 people, so pleasantly surprised.

Now I get to get up in 7 hours and do a hill ride with guys I know are going to pummel me, fun, fun!

DC Tri is this weekend. Oly -- swim in the Potomac, bike is a double loop, and run on the Mall around the monuments. Looking forward to it. Only negative is that my swim wave goes off at 6am because the Oly is before the sprint which starts at 7. Pros start at 9.Should be fun, so long as it is cooler than last weekend.

Man that was crazy to watch. Total reality TV last night. Stayed up way to late watching the live TV.

Sorry, a little late to the party this week.  Been kind of a crazy week at work with meetings, travel, etc.  And now that I think about it, I still owe Copawithnumbers an e-mail also.  (Bad MG member of the week?) Foot in mouth

No racing for me this weekend.  I am now debating on racing my next scheduled Oly or replacing it with a HIM Race Rehearsal day on the course.  Currently leaning towards racing.  I guess I should probably register?

Other than some swimming, biking, and running on the training schedule for the weekend .....  I am considering a nice long trail run to look for some Cougars.  Laughing   Oomph!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, one thing I am working on in this race is my nutrition strategy.  Trying to figure out when to eat my sharkies.  If anyone has any insight, let me know.  (Dale/Sam, could you consult your in-house expert on this one?)

if you an't find any sharkies just find an old gel, borrow a banana and drink some water while you're swimming. that's all you need.  this strategy got me a 20 minute pr this past sunday.

"Borrow" a banana?  I don't think they really want it back when you are done with it.  But nice job on the 20 min PR.

Now I am a Carolina Hurricanes fan, but I used to be a Bruins fan. I watched last nights game 7 while riding the trainer. Man that was Great! I hardly noticed I was riding I was so pumped watching the hockey!

Vancouver is lucky the  loss and the rioting did not happen before their application for the Olympics, cause if it had they never would have won it.

Although, they did have a huge riot before the lost the final in 1994 as well. They had this massive police review, back then on how things could have been prevented, changes on a go forward, etc. It's just silly that this stuff happens still.

Yeh Right with you on that. Darn kids . I didn't have a good feeling about Vancouver's chances last night given how badly they were manhandled by Boston the previous games in Boston. I think they were lucky that they got 7 games in. Thomas was smoking hot in goal and Luongo wasn't when he needed to be. Then again can't blame just Luongo. The rest of the team never scored any goals. Pretty hard to win like that.

Tony congrats on your result. Hope you didn't get beat up too bad on your second ride .

Darn it, my lake is getting warmer!! It's definitely above 60. Supposedly Lake CDA is around 54 (down from 56)...

That is take-your-breathe-away cold.  How do you handle it?  Everytime I jump in a cold body of water I need to acclimate or I start hyperventilating like I did in Knoxville.  Share the tips Ms. Fish!

Anything 58+ is not unbearable to me. Splash the face, stand for about 30 seconds to get the feet adjusted a bit, throw on the goggles and SWIM!!!!

I do have a feeling it will be a chilly swim this year -- although anything can happen and the lake has been known to climb in temp 2 degrees in the last day.

When it is take-your-breath-away cold, it is unpleasant for several minutes then I don't notice it. I do, however, notice the lack of feeling in my feet when I get out. That is one plus about not running after the swim, I guess!!

Really, I have no secrets. Supposedly your body (or maybe it's your brain) does acclimate a bit if you keep exposing yourself to the cold temps. So, if you expect cold water in your race, find cold water and swim in it repeatedly. And have a hot cup of coffee waiting for you when you're done!!!

Suzy:

When you weigh as little as you do it is probably hard to retain heat. (Not a short joke). Being bigger it is easier to maintain a higher core temp.

Pee in your wetsuit!

I swam with Kyla when the water temp was below 58.... She is lying.  She dove right in and took off.  3 of us (boys!) were sitting on shore going is she serious!! We'd better go!  SHE IS INSANE!
