I would be curious to hear from the experience cyclists, what tires you ride on. After flatting this weekend, I am going to swap out my tires.

Am thinking about "Vittoria Randonneur Hyper Tire".

Experience with others?  I would like to balance puncture resistance with speed.  I'm not "fast" but fast enough to not want to slow down, yet I really would like some protection against lousy roads.

 Thoughts on this?

Thanks.

I'll be riding a conti4000 on the rear as it's a good mix of strength and speed. From what I'm told by by LBS, the rear tire is the most likely to flat as our weight is underneath it more than the front wheel.  Front will be a conti supersonic 20mm on a sram s80.

Misery loves company.  I cannot begin to explain how fatigued I am right now.  I somehow ran eight miles last night and felt like blacking out several times.  Im so tired and I have to swim in a few hours.  I want this weekend to be over so I can start tapering.   I have another century ride and 20 mile run planned for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.  I want to cry when I think about it.  Make it stop.

Aint gonna be no rematch, Yo Adrian! etc…

Not to be the bearer of bad news. Last week I tapered for my half ironman and i felt like crap Monday to Saturday. Id go for a 20mins run or 40mins bike and I'd have a 30-45 mins after lol. Local pro that does coaching (nrg) said that this is suppose to be happening the first week!

I'm kinda glad to see that everyone else is suffering right now too, so at least I know what I am feeling is somewhat "normal." I can barely hold 9-930 min/mile pace running anymore for my weekday runs; my long runs I am lucky to average 10 min/mile. 10 weeks ago I was holding 8:15 easy!!

I'm still concerned the taper isn't enough?? I have a 5 hour bike and 3 hour run planned this weekend (can't even imagine the run right now). Next week, the only decrease during weekly workouts is Tuesday's run is 45 minutes instead of an hour (I did this this past week anyway because I was so exhausted); then the weekend after this, a 4 hour bike and 2 hour run; then weekend before the race I believe a 2 hour bike, 1 hour run. And it seems the weekday workouts only decrease a little, not too much. Should I trust the taper?

I really wish I could call in sick to work too for a rest day :p but that isn't feasible. My work quality has gone to crap; I'm a physical therapist and I am sure all of my patients can tell that I really don't give a s*** right now. I can barely keep my eyes open anyway!

Just want to reconfirm: this is "normal" and I should trust the "taper" (what taper :p)

Oh B00locks.  Seems that we have little over 3 weeks.

Looks like everyone training is going well.

Getting excited about this years event although little worried about the swim as i have not swum since last years IM.   Has to be said - looking forward to the race when i get on the bike.  They have just opened up pool by my house so i`ll hit that a few times.

Question - anyone know some good spots round NYC that you can do open water swims?  Harriman State Park maybe?

I have hardly swam at all. Really. Logs are 100% accurate. Not too worried though - I'm stashing fins under the dock. shhhhhhhh.   I know what I should be doing, I just don't do it...

Flippers   Brillaint idea!

All technique i had went out the window last year during the first 0.9miles.

More fun passing people on the bike and run so i like to give everyone a head start.

A friend of mine has a brilliant-er idea. Start @ 8am if you're not concerned about finishing time. No crowds, clean line to the cable, and lots of fun passing folks for the rest of the race.

Hey all - sorry to have been AWOL from the group - SEADOCHA even shamed me into updating my logs by accusing me via PM of not filling them in in order to hide my training from DC. Laughing

I will admit that I have been a bit bummed these last several weeks.  I had a bit of a freak injury after a tumble on a trail run and suffered a tear of my medial meniscus/right knee about 6 weeks ago. I am very lucky in that it appears to be on the very outer edge of the meniscus, so it has a chance of healing up without surgery. The only "running" I have done for the last 4 weeks has been in deep water, My doc finally released me for a little bit of elliptical work earlier this week and that went well enough that I can now try running 20 minutes per day, barring any pain and swelling. On my PT visit yesterday I got upgraded from "no way you can run Lake Placid" to being tentatively OK'd to give it a shot, depending on how it goes the next couple of weeks. So, while I am not going to have the run I planned, I am now hoping that I can at least complete the darned thing.

Oh - and this might sound funny, but I am actually pretty jealous of all of you that are suffering from exhaustion - I am feeling really good right now as I have not run at all in the last 4 weeks. I say that as a point of encouragement to you all - it could be a lot worse, you could be feeling great!!!!

And DC, don't neglect the possibility that I am faking injury; don't let your guard down....

Holy Criky Brad - I just swung through your log to say thanks for the IMLP cheerleading, and say you crashed two weeks ago and broke your collar bone and ribs - really sorry to hear it - I hope you are already on the mend! I guess you are going to have lots of time for TDF and Olympics watching?

OK - I should be able to get all the tats out in the mail on monday -  I will PM each of you after I go to the post office. And I have more if there are other folks that want them. I will have extras at the swim meet up (I am voting for Friday at 9am, BTW) or I am happy to mail them if you don't think you will be able to make it.

Several of you asked where I had them made - I did not - I just ordered them from the store link up in the top right hand corner of the website. They only sell them in packs of 10, so I just ordered a bunch. I have plenty for anyone that wants one. Here is what they look like:

BT Tattoo

Safe training this weekend - it is hotter-n-ell down here in the south. 105 degrees for our century tomorrow - wheeeeee!

Oh, and AccuWeather.com officially has the long range weather forecast for race day:

Rain, High of 73, Low of 58.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/lake-placid-ny/12946/july-weather/339681

I am positive that will not change. Adirondack weather is HIGHLY predictable...

Kudos Rusty for being the first to start the token 'Weather Watching' post.

In 2010 and 2011 the weather was pretty much perfect.  In 2009 it rained the ENTIRE Day.  I'm preparing for 2009 and will be happy if it's anything otherwise.

One last big weekend of training for me, followed by a medium-Long Bike and Run right after 4th of July, then Taper.  Thank God for TDF TV coverage.

One of the main reasons I like IMLP is that the taper coincides perfectly with the TDF. And this year we get the added bonus of the Olympics when we are done!

I have an organized century today in temps that are supposed to reach 106+ degrees - should be "fun." I should be perfectly heat acclimated by the time Lake Placid gets here. I still have a little ways to go - I only do a 10 day taper, still with a good bit of intensity thrown in. Safe training today, everyone.

Yeah I guess there is no sense in worrying about it..."it is what it is", not like we can change it. All that said, I am scared to death its going to be windy. I will get crushed on the bike if its windy.

We got some of that down here in Southern Ohio; our electric just came back on (it was out for about 20 hours).

Nice of you to help.  Glad no one was hurt!

Just finished my bike/run quick change today,  I thought the bike went well but the run nearly killed me.  I barely made it home, Good thing the wife was not home I'm sure she would have called 911.  I don't think I've ever felt abdominal pain like that ever.  I think the good news is that all the crappy food that I ate this week while traveling for work is no longer in my body.  I'm out of commission for the rest of day. I don't know if it was the hot weather, or nutrition screw up.  I can only hope I'll be able to do the long run tomorrow.

After my HIM in Syracuse last week, I have come to the conclusion that I sweat more then just about any human is allowed too.  my calve sleeves had salt so think on them they are no longer compression sleeves.  I'm thinking about adding salt to my nutrition, of course this is something that I should have decided 10 weeks ago, but after today's session I had salt crystals the size of rock salt that you would use during the winter.  If it's going to be hot in LP during that time then I don't think I'm going to make it with what I'm doing today.

I was so nervous in my last 20 mile run today. Made it through without incident. Jmoney - be careful. I'm moving my last , long ride until Wednesday because it will be cooler and I'll get a little rest. Still doing 70 or so tomorrow but easy. Make it through Wednesday and I'll be starting IMLP 2012. Something I did not take for granted.
