I posted a reply to all your suggestions earlier...don't know what happened/why it didn't post....?

Anyway, I sat him down and told him to PLEASE not bring anymore sweets in the house. I told him how important it was for me to lose weight so I won't get injured while training. Hopefully the fear of medical bills will motivate him to comply with my wishes.

I went to a Tri Expo at the Y tonight. Very informative. Signed-up for my first tri - Now I'm so excited I can't stand it! I want to do it now! Did a TT today....I swim 300 yards in 7 mins 45 seconds. Yes, I'm slow, but at least I know I can swim 300 yards without stopping to rest! Yay!

awesome Trina. Now you know you can do the distance and trust me that's not all that slow. Especially for a first time.

I would be totally up for sharing some receipes.

jvanis - 2010-01-25 7:24 PM If anyone wants, it would be fun to setup a blog of sorts, or atleast a shared google spreadsheet that we can share recipes.  I LOVE cooking/baking and am always looking for new ideas, plus have a few things that are really big hits in my family.  We could divide up by healthy eats and just really good recipes.

If there is interest I can get something setup and start adding people to a shared spreadsheet or blog rights if people want to go that route (Always nice to have pictures of things)

I'd be up for a recipe exchange area.  Maybe someone could pass along a recipe using tofu so it doesn't taste like a$s.  Seriously, I can't stand the stuff but I'm trying to find some meat substitutes for a veggie nights.  Ugh the things I'll go through to lose a few pounds, get faster/fitter and beat John at Lonestar.  ;-)

YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I keep reading about awesome dishes in people's training logs, and I'm drooling and totally jealous!! I love to cook seasonal and local with a heavy slant on vegetarian. I'll do chicken and turkey and buffalo, but that's about it. Love fish, but get paralyzed in the buying process so we don't eat it as often as we should. My husband doesn't really like vegetables, so he often doesn't like what I cook. But I'm convinced if I cooked the right things the right way he'd see the light. I keep trying -- and eating all of the leftovers after he politely picks at his plate over dinner. My kids eat like kids (cereal, pizza, quesadillas), although my daughter has an open mind and tries everything (and likes some of them).

I'm totally w/ you on the seasonal and local.  Stanley mentioned Food Inc a page back.  I watched the movie a month ago.  Tony and I were pretty much aware of those big farm practices long before the movie which is why I can't buy meat in a grocery store.  We had read some of those farmer's books when we were thinking about going into organic farming.  And some of the farmers in the movie are local to us.  I'd love some more vegetarian recipes and more ways to use up the piles of veggies we get from our local farm delivery.

My recipe contribution, from my son, best smoothie ever (because I can remember the recipe off the top of my head)

Drop all in the blender.

1 cup frozen fruit
1 cup milk
1 bananna.

Perfect base for a post workout smoothie, I will throw in some protien powder and or flax seed, etc.

He saw it on a show on the disney channel and had us make it for him, now I use it after workouts.

our google account is

username: swbkrunmg
password: COMMANDO!

ask suzy about the password.... ; )

If you go under documents you will see our virtual tri results from last year and at one point we had a spreadsheet of upcoming races.

you could drop recipes in there, just make a separate catagory for them.

I would be all about a collection, As much as a spreadsheet sounds good, it may be a bit difficult to track.  Let me do some work and see if I can get a blogger account setup, then we can just post new posts and then we can tag them with Healthy or veg or just really freeking good!

BT SWBKRUN Food Blog Info:
http://swbkrun.blogspot.com
There are two ways we can go about doing this.  I think the best way would be to add people's google accounts as editors of the blog so when you are logged into your personal account, you can still edit the blog and not need an additional login.  PM Me with your google account info and I will get you added to help publish. If you do not have a google account, then also pm me and I will get you the account info to publish recipes.

I cannot wait to get this up and running.  I will have  more time to work on this next week when I am on vacation and get it looking a bit better and easier to navigate.

To everyone that liked the book "Born to Run": I am going to meet the author Chris McDougall this Friday night. I have a a few questions for him but thought that if any of you have questions, you can send them to me and I will try to get them answered.

I want to know iif he still runs "barefoot?"

Has he tried the Vibram five fingers or any of the other new shoes?

How are the Tarumara doing now?

Does he think that the Tarumara runners he met were good barefoot runners because those were the ones with good natural mechanics, and other tarumara with bad mechanics gave up running?

Does he still eat the food he found from the Tarumara? I so how does he prepare it?

I have my own pet peeve with New Year's resolution people at the gym.  GIVE IT UP ALREADY!!!     Please don't misunderstand me, I'm very supportive of people getting in shape and trying new things.  But those people that are hanging out on the treadmills having very loud conversations with the people next to them (neither of which are moving their feet btw) or those that sit in the core exercise area, surrounded by their collection of equipment, and are texting the whole time - they need to go!! They are clogging up the gym!   This weekend there was a couple practically making out in the lap lane pool.  I'll share a lane with some dude walking over the lovers anyday of the week.  The new people who are really into it are great to see, the rest are extremely annoying!!  Sorry if this makes me sound like a horrible person.

That was a cool book.  I just finished reading it.  I had my first VO2 test done w/ Ken Mierke from the book and our current coach is a former student/bus. partner of his.

Just one question - is Caballo (that was his name, right?) still alive?

Whew thanks for this. I thought I was the one in the group with a low tolerance right now. Thought my pool story from yesterday was me being a bad person.

This AM I got back from my TM run and my wife asks how it went. I tell her my numbers and head off to shower. She stops me and says "what is that black bruise on your leg?" I don't see anything. The kids come running and my daughter is grossed out. (My son never wants to play hockey because of my black and blue marks BTW). Turns out I can't see this part of my leg without either contorting myself or a mirror. I chose the mirror.

On the back of my leg I have a 3-4" black bruise. It is not black and blue, but black. I assume it is from the massage I had to help with my adductor strain. (It is the same area of the leg she abused for me.)

It is wierd to have a mark like that and not know it. Anyway I have three more runs this week and Sunday will be a new longest ever, hopefully. Here is hoping that the adductor strain is behind me for good.

Good read for those of us traveling to races this year.

Talks about the different airline policies for traveling with a bike.  Definitely some airlines to stay away from.

It does, you and Trevor both.   I have to remember to exercise patience with my fellow human beings - not everyone has their crap together as well as me...  Now the ones spinning their sweaty clothes in the swimsuit dryer - they have to go!

Chris, Barry, Steve.  What day did you go to briefing last year?  Was bike check on Saturday nuts?

I was planning on arriving in Saluda, SC (~hour from Augusta) on Saturday morning.  But now I'm thinking a Friday arrival might be better.  I really wish they had something later that 6pm on Friday evening.  Yes I know it a ways out but we're debating whether to drive or fly and we're getting a beach house down on sullivans island or folly the week after.  SO the planning has to get moving.  Thanks.

United and Delta  are $175 to fly a bike??? Ouch

Air Canada looks like $50 each way.  Looks like I know who I'm flying down with.

I went to briefing on Saturday early afternoon then took my bike down for check in.  Check in was not a big deal, but it is about a mile from the hotel.  Did a nice jog back.  Briefing was fairly easy to get in and out of, but packet pick up was a bit of a pain in the rear.

Are you staying at the Marriott?  I have a reservation for Saturday night, may stay economy on friday coming in, but it was very convenient to be at the host hotel.

Yeah I absolutely hate South West but we are taking them due to baggage fees.

It'll be an extra 200 bucks for the whole trip in baggage fees using them where it would be 300-400 or more on other airlines.
