Congrats Trevor, sounds like you had a great race.

I think my body is tired of training right now and just wants to go fast and race.  I have been so bored at all my workouts since Mooseman except for the ride where I got my a$$ handed to me.

Wife and I are getting up tomorrow to ride and run our course for next weekend.  Used to live right around that area so we know it pretty well, it's a funny distance race, 1k OWS, 30k bike that is 3 loops in a neighborhood, and an 8k run 2 loop run in same neighborhood.  Being in a neighborhood you would think it was a rinky dink race, but it is put on by Setup events who run a ton of races in this area and there are 600 people racing, so should be loads of fun when slow people try to merge into the bike course...

Also, what is everyones fathers day plans?  We kind of moved it to today, so I got breakfast in bed, wife took kids out for a couple hours of peace and quiet, got my tiny new brake levers, had a nice dinner.  Tomorrow dropping kids off at my parents house, doing the pre-ride, heading back to my parents house to hang out there for the rest of the day and do some fishing on my step fathers boat with my son.

Hope everyone else has a great fathers day or at least a great rest of the weekend.

Tracy, just remember to take pictures...Cool

If I wasn't running my Marathon the week before I might be up for doing the bike as part of a relay, but not sure I am that hard core yet.

I will be in Outer Banks for the OBX marathon (wife is racing), which is also in November I believe.

Man,  I wanted to but #3 gets in the way.  When I find that guy who knocked her up I'm gonna let him have it.  Wife even put the foot down about volunteering (read jock strap for Linda) at IMFL.  LOL! wait till it sells out and I have to get a community fund slot.  She's going to love that race fee.

How about Wildflower.  Or come join me, Andy, and Tony at Lone Star.

Trevor - fantastic job!!  Youa re so inspiring!

Question for everyone: can't believe I have to ask this but I truly don't know the answer. So I went and scouted the course for my race next weekened (first race).  Feel good about everything except this:  when I rode the bike course, there are a bunch of intersections to get through on major roads. In one, you have to cross over 4 lanes to make a left turn at a light.  Do you think the road will be blocked off for the race? Is that usualy what happens?  I don't mind riding in traffic and getting through the intersections but how can it be a race if you get stopped at a long light? Yes, I am probably overthinking this but I'm trying to visualize everything in my mind and want to know what to expect (the race website and info packet don't say anything about a closed course).

Thanks guys!

If it isn't a closed course, they will have someone at the intersections stopping traffic to give you the right of way.

Can't wait to hear all about it! There's just nothing quite like your first race!

Got my new fathers day present installed.

Also, going to try out Suzy's run coach for the MCM training, good to have someone yelling at me about my run.

Tony

I hope you like Lowell.  I honestly would not have BQ'ed if it were not for him.  Just so you know, he never yells, but sends little notes "suggesting" you do this or that......he is really terrific.  The more you ask him, the more you will get out of him.  I bet your wife will benefit as well.

So, I went to bed while it was still light outside and slept for 3 whole hours before I started waking up every hour.  I'm not nervous so what's up with that?  It's going to be hot today so I have to temper my enthusiasm a little.  Part of me wants to really hit the bike hard to see how well I can do and screw the run, but of course Steve decides to send me final words of wisdom overnight to settle down.  Party pooper.  Have a great day.

Suzy

PS. I would be interested in hooking up for a race that is convenient to all so long as someone helps me reassemble my bike! let's figure something out.....

That is a very interesting thought.  I am only 4 hours away and my mom lives in Wilmington.  I might be in.  Since I am too lazy to look it up, when is the race?  I am thinking Nov?

Suzy:

If it is a race I can get to I will help assemble yours and anyone else's. I will even bring my tools. If it is in NC, you can ship your bikes to my house and I will load up the truck to deliver them on site.

Well I got a sports counter for counting laps for Father's Day.

I have been thinking about Chet's question "Why do you do this?" for a couple of days. Here is what I got so far, in no particular order:

I do it because I have a need to make myself the best I can be.
I do it because I want to be here and with for my family as long as possible.
I do it because have a competitive fire.
I do it because it takes me back to younger days.
I do it for the challange.
I do it for the endorphin rush.
I do it because it is one of the few things in my universe I can control (to any significant degree),
I do it to be a good role model to my children.

I'm done! #2 AG!

Not sure of the official time, but I wasn't far off my prediction earlier in the week.  I think maybe 3:16ish.  Swim: 32ish, Bike: 1:33ish and run UGGH, 1:01ish.  Didn't rush through T1 or T2 given the purpose of the day,but they probably soaked up 8-10minutes.

Believe it or not, the highlight was my 32 minute swim which included getting out of the water, running up the beach, around a tree and over a mat after each of the three loops! I was swam over twice by the 25-39 year old males whose wave started just as I was starting the 3rd lap. Not fun and NONE were good looking from that angle!

I executed the "Steve" plan on the bike as best I could, but with 2,500 feet of climbing I was in Z4/5 a lot!  This course was tough on so many levels and way beyond what I have been training on so far. No more.  This 25.5m of torture is going to become a Suzy regular.  I am going to eat hills for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I have to give myself a big fat F for fueling on the bike.  I was worried about drinking when my HR was through the roof and suffer GI issues or a side stitch.  I had zero opportunities to reach back and grab my H20 from my rear holder.  I was trying to figure out how to stay upright!   This really impacted my run in a dramatic way.  The run course is hilly and going down the side of one of "mountains", hamstring cramp!  Crap. Wasted at least 2 minutes here trying to get rid of it and still go down the hill! Finally got that behind me and I was on the south side of bonking.  When you start telling yourself I will run from this sign to that sign you know you are in trouble!   I like to savethat strategy for Boston!

Crossed the finish line with a smile on my face.  I got out of this race what I wanted, my 1m swim and my experience with the bike course.   I didn't achieve my objective of learning to fuel (again), but I sure know what the consequences of not doing a good job are all about!

RR will probably be out tomorrow.

Enjoy your Sunday
.

done 3:18:46 swim felt great, bike Ok, run was horrible. Trainsitions were good. Had a rude awakening. I am nowhere near ready for an HIM. RR up tomorow or later tonight. 409 out of 465 sucks but I did finish. Had a huge calf cramp coming off the bike and couldn't get a rythym going... walk/ run all the way through. My sides cramped up about 2 k from the finish and I had trouble breathing. I was wheezing like an old steam engine coming down the stretch. More later.

Arggg!!!  I was on a nice long bike ride when my Garmin Forerunner 205 just stopped working.  Battery was charged a few days ago.  I can't get it to turn on or do anything right now.  When I tried to hook it up to my computer, I get an error message that the device isn't recognized by my computer anymore.  I can't even do a hard reset.

Anyone have any ideas before I try to post this on the gear forum?
