One of my BT friends is coming out to do Rev 3 HIM in Williamsburg and she asked if it was a possibility that it would turn Du. Given all the weather and swim cancellations by tri club I would estimate that to be a real possibility. Now I have to do a du workout over the weekend to be prepared for that OMGIWANNATOSSMYCOOKIES feeling that comes from a Du. However, it would beat a swim since we all know I really dislike swimming. |

It does. It's starting to rain again on the West End with thunder, so I'm staying home. I'll do PT exercises tonight for my jogo. It is definitely possible it's a Du. I was supposed to volunteer at the Xterra tri on Sunday as a swim angel again, and the swim got canceled because of all the rain. I don't know if the race happened at all because of the impact on the trails after all the rain on Saturday. |

Look at pictures of marathon champions. Look at pictures of triathlon champions. Foxyalphatart plumunderfedgorilla. Reasons and explanations are manifold, but two main ones are that it takes more energy to carry weight on foot than on a bike or swimming even at the same effort, and, it takes more energy to repair the more extensive damage done running. Elite 4435![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Cairns report! Wow what a weekend. I wish I could have stayed around for the after party - the pro's were still going hard at 3am! They are machines! Everything to extreme. I met up with about 20 guys (mainly male ) from the Maccax group. All great folk - much like the manatees. These guys are awesome athletes putting in 4.30's for the 70.3 and 10 hours for the full. Met up with Macca and co the first night for dinner and saw him every day around town always time for a chat and meets and greets any fans that want to. Race day was incredible. I was at the swim start - alas not stripping wetsuits but i was zipping people in! Macca looked nervous, first time I've seen that. He knew he was competing with only 60% kidney function the doctors said it wouldn't kill him but he would feel cr*p. His wife Emma said to me - it's okay Jo he can race i've checked the life insurance! I am never disappointed watching pros do an Ironman. The conditions were brutal. Ok for the swim but windy and hot and then intermittent rain for the day. Humidity of 96%. Temperatures in high 80's Macca was third out of the water which is great for him as swimming is not his thing. The ride he lost a few places with Luke McKenzie leading the whole way at one point by 20mins! The run was hot, the sun shone and the headwind was killing them. They run 21kms back into town from T2 then it's 3x 7km loops of the town which is great for spectators. On lap one Luke was flying he looked so strong. Tim Berkel was in second and he was fast. Then came Macca - now I've seen him compete a lot, and i've never seen him run through a crowd without his grin. It was absent, he was in the zone, he acknowledged me which was lovely. Lap two Tim Berkel was closing, Luke was starting to suffer. Macca looked a bit better - I got a nod and a wave! Jason Shortis was in 4th, he's 42/43 - amazing, best i've seenhim look ever. Lap three, Macca knows he's secured third place and a Kona spot, he's on fire, he's hi fiving everyone, grabbed my hand as he ran past. Hi fived Jason Shortis as they passed each other. He finished and collapsed into a wheelchair straight on to a drip then massage etc. The rest of the day was spent watching the MaccaX team finish their races. Lost of first timers and they said without us there to cheer them at each lap they may not have been able to finish. On of our guys did a 13hr in Melbourne was hoping for the same but ended up doing a 16.26. He suffered the day! Monday day after race, saw Macca for breakfast - he said he suffered all day, completely flat nothing to give. He said people were shouting at him come on Macca - and he was just saying I got nothing! I cannot imagine what it must feel like to race on no energy but do it in 8.32 - it's beyond awesome! He then took the wife and kids out for a trip then came back to the pub around 5.30pm. I had to leave an hour later but I got a hug and a kiss so I was very happy! I hear the after party went til 3am, and those pro's can party and drink hard. For the girls, Liz Blatchford took it out on debut! Gina Crawford a worthy second. They were neck and neck for two laps of the run. Watching the age groupers I was surprised by how strong some people looked on the run. I am inspired and I wanna be good. Training starts back tomorrow. Right now I'm exhausted I got home at 1am. If you've never gone to spectate at an Ironman I highly recommend it. Yanti - Timo is lovely. |

Mr. runner trainer that I was meeting with emailed me this morning to say that he was instructed by his superiors that he could not train me (basically, he costs more as he is much more experienced that the loser guy). They are shuffling me to some loser newbie. Yes, I have a bad attitude about that. Mr. runner trainer offered to meet with me, off the record and grid, for a goal setting discussion. By the end of the meeting I was more excited than I have been in a long time about my potential. Mr. hot piglet runner trainer (long curly blond hair and very kind blue eyes) gave me his personal email and cell phone and will work with me "off the record". He is going to go to the manager and tell him that he wants to work with me and he really thinks that he can help, "afterall isn't that what this company is supposed to be about, helping clients meet their goals?" His words, not mine. I learned so much in that hour from him. He has a Masters in Exercise Physiology, certification in Pilates, some sort of degree in sports nutrition and has worked for the Hansons (Hansons-Brooks Distance Project). He totally trains with the Hansons Marathon Method and we talked all about the science behind it, which for a science geek like me was so interesting. He made me believe in me! He even said that every time he meets with a runner he draws energy from their enthusiasm. He said he had been more motivated to sign up for a marathon (Big Sur in particular) than he has in a long time. He said he stopped doing that distance at 17 marathons. He was shocked that my PR is on the Big Sur course. He made me set a goal of 4:59:59 for Marine Corps and we set up my next 2 weeks of training (marathon, not personal). Really hoping he gets to train me. If not, at least I have a plan and a back up plan. He will get me in with Luke Humphrey (author of the Hansons Marathon Method) for coaching, if he can't train/coach me because of his employer. I am so glad I went and met with him. People come in and out of your life for a reason, I am glad one is out and I am so happy this one has come in. |

I even told him, to offer the gym to let me pay the difference in his cost vs. newbie loser. Even if he can't train me, he said he would work with little newbie loser to set up my training with him, he just wouldn't be the one carrying it out but that way he would coach me too. He does coaching but only for his clients so he can be part of every aspect of their training and maximize their strengths. He, honestly, was a breath of fresh air. I love the running community, we take care of our own!! Edited by jogo 2013-06-10 8:54 PM |

I like this app better than Map My Ride. The downside is, it doesn't give you the elevation data in the app - I have to do the extra steps I described above to get the elevation data.... If you want your elevation data available without the extra downloading and uploading - Map My Run will give you that within the phone. Not sure if you can export your routes to import them here or not, and I know you can do that with the Cardio Trainer App. Out of curiosity, do you get the same elevation results from MapMyRide and CardioTrainer? I'm just wondering how they are calculation the climbing feet without barometric pressure. Wow - the numbers are quite different. I just looked at the ride from 6/6. Cardio Trainer app shows 2500+ feet of "climb". This number only becomes available when I export the file, then import it here. The Map my Ride app shows 2 different numbers. On my phone it shows 1210 feet of "gain" - but when I log into the website, it shows 1,060 feet of gain. Seems the 2 apps interpret the google maps data differently, as that is where these apps get their data. |

I vote for upper body muscle gain. Running and biking do not work the upper body like swimming does. If you are swimming with the intensity that you run then muscle gain is a given. Rock the swimmer's build! |

As I've switched from running to triathlon, I gained 4 pounds. It's not a fluke or anything as it has remained pretty steady over the past 6 weeks and I don't believe I have done anything in terms of diet changes. Is it typical of a triathlete to carry some more body weight? Body fat or possibly more upper body muscle? I'm not stressing or anything and don't worry, I won't launch into an eating disorder or anything (just to be clear) but if this isn't along the lines of a normal thing, I would like to reign in my diet or make necessary changes so that I can race to the best of my abilities. Foxy what? You. You're foxy. Salty whines like a fat pug. |

I did not get to the spreadsheet today. I guess you all will have to wait until Friday. I promise, I promise, I promise. I am stalking all of you, I just don't have time to make it all pretty and post.
Mr. runner trainer that I was meeting with emailed me this morning to say that he was instructed by his superiors that he could not train me (basically, he costs more as he is much more experienced that the loser guy). Overall, this is great news! You made some contacts to help you with your goals and you have two weeks of training plan so you essentially have about two weeks to get things worked out -- with LTF or Surfer Hair Trainer and his contacts. |

Oh! It does sound like something can be worked out! |

I hate that. |
