Member 14 Las Vegas | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Thanks for the input. I've been studying the course profile compared to local rides. 2-3% grade I rarely move out of the big ring...Switching casettes tonight to the 11-23. I'm gonna bring the 12-27 just in case. I'm hoping to ride (easy spin) some of the course on Sat morning, anyone game? I'll meet y'all at 4:15 for the swim. Looking forward to this weekend! Ciao, Aaron |

Ciao, Aaron I don't know why you would even think of riding an 11-23. What does that 11 really get you and what do you give up if you needed that 27 for some reason. Really do you think you are going to be pushing that 11 super hard down a hill. going from a 12-11 isn't that much difference and I doubt you'll care if you max out your bike speed downhill at 45 instead of 47. But you might hit a steep hill where that 27 might come in handy. I'm not saying that hill with a 23 would be that bad, but at least you have the option of saving a little juice. Anyway thats my $0.02. Oh and if you have been riding in a 12-27 you might look at what the other gears are on the 11-23. I know when I switched to my 12-26 from my 11-23 the gear that I always pedaled in (my smooth gear) wasn't there anymore and it took a while to get comfortable. Just sayin....Nothing new on race day right? |

So now we don't have to pile into cars to drive to the other beach. But I assume we'll still meet at campsite 261 at 4:15. p.m. Monty I'm trying to decide on full vs sleeveless as well. I'm throwing both in the car and will probably decide at the swim tomorrow. See ya'll TOMORROW! Woot! |

Extreme Veteran 516 Olathe, KS | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread The weather is looking slightly cooler on Sunday , but the local weatherman said to look out for a chance of pop up rain on Saturday, particularly in the evening hours. For those camping, plan accordingly. Perhaps bring a few plastic bags as well for your bike seat and handlebars for their overnight stay in transition. |

Veteran 389 sacramento, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Swimming is closed. At least it was today. You can go to the other beach which is a little further east (i.e. before you get to the Campground 3 madness) The water was very warm. I'm a big baby when it comes to cold water and i was in there with just my jammers. Ace Camp 56 (but not tonight) |

I would be surprised if the temp was not at 78 or less. When I swam today, it did not feel too warm for a wetsuit. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread Great job everyone! Glad to meet some of you fine folks. What a great day. Question for anyone wearing a Garmin 310XT... what was your swim distance recorded? Mine showed 2.47 miles but I did NOT have the new swim software installed. Just curious if it was close to anyone else's reading. I did not go way off course according to the map on my Garmin Connect a few corrections here and there but pretty much the standard rectangle is what is showing. Run registered as 12.56 miles on my device. |

Run registered as 12.56 miles on my device. Hey Lisa, I was wearing my 310XT and my swim showed 2.2 miles and my run was exactly at 12.56 as well. I have not downloaded the new swim software as well, so was expecting there to be a wide discrepancy in the swim distance, so just focused on my time instead. I have to admit, while I want the Garmin to be accurate as compared to the run distance, I felt like someone was gifting me a free 1/2 mile, which mentally was kind of nice towards the end ... By the way, I am the one that yelled hi as you were coming out onto the run. Great job out there to you and everyone else on this board! |

Veteran 144 Little Elm, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread I wish I could tell you my swim data, but my Garmin is at the bottom of Clinton Lake. I lost it about 3 minutes into the swim. I had heard that the pins are weak and needed to be replaced, now I fully believe it. It made for an interesting race. I had plans for power and HR and had to go on RPE. I didn't realize how much I rely on these little tools. I wound up running out of gas on the last 3 miles of the run. It was a training race for me, but wound up being a bad day. Are the results posted anywhere? I didn't see them on the Ironman Kansas website. |

Extreme Veteran 695 Olathe | Subject: RE: Ironman Kansas 70.3 : Official Thread So which is worse, losing your garmin on the swim or coming to T1 pre-race prep and finding your front ZIPP tire flat... changing it, and finding it flat again after the swim...? And then realizing the spare you used is now pinched and torn, having no other 80mm stem tubes, the patch repair kit isn't fixing the flats, no one has a removable stem that works with your valve extender and you race is done at T1 because of a flat tire... Still kind of pissed. I will be ordering 10 80mm stem tubes online since no one in KC that sells ZIPP wheels seem to carry tubes that will work with them and I thought I'd be ok with 2 spares (one of which I mistakingly thought I could remove the stem on for my extender b/c that's all I could find in person around KC).
