Since it is going to be wetsuit legal, does a wetsuit really help?  I have never used one before and just happened to order one on-line since it was a great sale, $99 bucks, nothing fancy.

Does it alter your stroke in any way, and would it be wise to use one for this event since I have not used one before?  I can probably get 3 swim sessions in with the wetsuit before the HIM.

thanks for your thoughs.

My wetsuit is also a $99 wetsuit, Rocket Johnny model, nothing fancy but it shaves about 10 -15 seconds off every 100m for me. For me, the time shaving comes from being buoyant in the legs. My movement is not restricted at all since I am sleeveless. Good luck Sunday!

I think we can start talking about the weather now....

Current forecast is low around 50, high in the mid-70s, primarily sunny and dry. A little cool in the morning, but the bike and run should be perfect weather.

Oh, and very light winds predicted.

I'm just glad Hurricane Rick isn't going to F everything up.

(overcast would have been nice too, but I'll gladly take this over last year's weather!)

It is with great heartache that I have to annouce this......I am going to be unable to race on Sunday. I have come down with flu like symptoms and will not risk my life to race. I have been sick for the last few weeks but starting on Sunday, I developed a fever. It's been off and on since then and the OTC stuff isn't helping. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow (yes....I'm a dude....we only go to the dr. if our leg has fallen off). Had I gone when I first got the symptoms, I might not be typing this......

I am very upset as this is my A race, I've been training for this, and I have to forgo $250.

I wish you all the best of luck and will be looking forward to the race reports.

That sucks man, but don't beat yourself over it. This stuff happens. I've signed up for this race for the past three years and this is the first year I will race it. (hopefully!)

Forget about it and start looking forward to your next race. Sign up for next year and come back and kick some butt!

Hope you feel better.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Don't jinx all of us by talking about the weather forecast. I'm not even going to say if the forecast is positive or negative, just that their is one and we should leave it alone!

Regardless of the weather, I can't freaking wait!

What looks nice is that Sunday is in the middle of multiple days of similar weather, which should mean minimum winds!!  Yippee....but then again it is Texas....

I'm sorry that you are going to be too sick to race. Wait, are you in the M35-39 age group? Nevermind... I 'm still sorry. I can't imagine getting sick this close to the race.

Go see your doctor and get better soon.

Have you thought about coming out to volunteer? If you're not too sick for that, I'm sure they could still use more hands. I greatly appreciate all those folks who work so hard to make our race day so spectacular.

Is that good news? Its treatable, right?

That sucks that you can't make it to the race, but honestly, I think I'd prefer you keep that to yourself and not risk infecting the rest of us.

KEJ - 2009-09-16 2:40 PM you don't have to re-stuff your helmet,etc in T2

Ok, good to know. The recent e-mail that just went out seemed to indicate we had to, so I just wanted to verify. Thanks!

BTW- I'm super excited about the race!!

And the email that went out 3 days ago STILL says we have to re-pack T2.

Following your bike ride, you’ll rack your bike, empty the contents of your RUN GEAR bag and put them on. You’ll then put all of your items from your bike ride (helmet, bike shoes, etc) back into the RUN GEAR bag. No items other than your bike and your RUN GEAR bag should be at your bike rack space.

Which is it????

The way I see it- the only reason you need to repack the swim bag, is so they can transport it. There is absolutely no reason to repack your bag in T2- you will have access to your stuff after the race. I have no idea why it's still in the athlete guide- they probably just reprinted the same thing as before and didn't take it out. If there is no time penalty, or no rule saying you need to repack the bag in T2, why bother?

If it doesn't fit, you could always try one of the local shops to rent one.  I know that Austin Tricyclist rents wetsuits.  I would imagine that Jack & Adams does as well but do not know that for sure.

Good Luck!

I would guess that we would have assigned bike rack spots, so that we know where to find our Run Gear bags in T2.

The Race-Information does not say where we will rack our bikes for T2.

Some stuff I'm sure of, some I'm not...  (I'm part of the race crew, but won't be getting there until tomorrow)

Bike racks will all be individually numbered, both in T1 (up at the park) and T2 (by the arena).

After your swim, and you are ready to leave on the bike, you need to repack everything into your T1 bag, so that the volunteers can grab all the bags and haul them from T1 down to the T2 area.

I don't think you'll need to repack your T2 bag, since you'll be coming right back to that spot after the race.

Of course, I recommend that you attend one of the meetings on Friday or Saturday, where Keith will cover all of this stuff.  In addition, the head referee will go through a quick summary of the rules (if you haven't heard about Red and Yellow cards, or don't know where the Penalty Tent is, I would suggest you attend)

(I'll apologize for the mixed messages on the bag stuff; we normally only have 1 transition at races.  Keith is probably a little tied up right now to be able to post a reply)

I know we have to pack our T1 bag before we leave on the bike.  Can we lay out our bike stuff  at T1 while we swim?

A definite MAYBE, and that's my final answer.  Smile

Don't know the answer on that one yet.  If I find out the answer tomorrow sometime, I'll see if I can get it posted.  If not, then it will definitely be covered in the pre-race meetings, and I'll make sure the volunteers know the answer on Sunday when you arrive at T1.

Check page 9 of this thread. Keith has said you can set your stuff up in T1 but you still must pack evertyhing in your T1 bag before leaving T1 so they can bring everything to you after the race.

Like the other question I posted about T2... that is not what the email that went out on Sunday said. Just wish the information was more consistent...

In your BIKE GEAR bag, you’ll place all items needed to complete the bike portion of your race (bike shoes, socks, sunglasses, helmet, bike bib number, etc) in this bag. This bag will be placed at your assigned bike rack space along with your bike. NO items may be placed on the ground at your bike rack space other than this bag. Following your swim, you’ll take the contents of your BIKE GEAR bag out, and get ready for the bike. You’ll then place ALL items that you used during the swim (wetsuit, swimskin, swim cap, goggles, etc) into the BIKE GEAR bag before leaving Transition 1 for the bike.

I think I've got most of this transition stuff figured out (unless it changes), but there is one thing I haven't been able to solve yet - what do I do with my bike pump after I pump up my tires? Too far to go back to the car, too big for the clothing drop off bag (per the athlete guide), and nobody that will be there with me that early to hand it off to.

I use a wheelbuilder disc cover, and the Joe Blow Smarthead on my pump allows me to use the pump without need for a crack pipe, etc.; and I don't want to fill the tires the night before, because they lose air overnight (and I'm not scientist enough to have figured out how much exactly per hour...).
