Elite 3602 Mesa, AZ | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread When are you getting to St. George? I have a lot of family coming out to do Zion and such so we are coming the SUNDAY before and making a vacation out of it...a family reunion of sorts! Where are you staying? We rented a house 5 miles from the Convention Center. How many IM races have you done? ZERO! This will be my first! Is your training on Pace with what you planned? I feel good with what I am doing. I am getting all of my key workouts in, I know I am getting stronger, I have been riding the course on the Computrainer and doing ALL of my big training on hills. I know I will be able to say "I did what I could!" My husband and I are both racing and if people are interested would like to host a BT get together! Are these done the day before or TWO days before. OR am I jumping the gun here? :p I say its NEVER to early to talk about FUN! |

Using some Marriott Points at the Springhill Suites in Cedar City How many IM races have you done? ZERO! First one Baby! Is your training on Pace with what you planned? Training is on pace. Lots of good base work behind me and working on hills and staying healthy. Got another 8 lbs to lose between now and then but 14-18 hours per week will get me there. |

I think it might help me out with my pre-race jitters. Edited by dieathlon 2010-02-21 9:28 PM |

Are these done the day before or TWO days before. OR am I jumping the gun here? :p I say its NEVER to early to talk about FUN! For Vineman last summer, we had a dinner at an Italian restaurant early on the evening before. There was a party at the rental condo of one of the BTers at IMAZ...that was the afternoon before. Personally, I'm up for a Friday get-together. Thursday, I imagine I'll be driving (and maybe riding part of) the bike course in addition to check-in. I'm figuring on a practice swim on Friday AM and then taking it easy...shopping and carbs would be the order of the day for me. |

I am usually very reclusive the day before the race. I have a tendency to do to much. I like to socialize and it always makes me lose track of time. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread Correct me if I'm wrong (I JUST looked at the schedule a second ago). We need to check in on Thursday and drop off gear on Friday.... We CAN'T also check in on Friday... It looks like I drive up on Thursday. I wonder if I want to drive up to check in, then go back to Vegas, then come up again on Friday for the drop off and race... |

That's definitely how I read the schedule (and why we're driving up from LA on Wednesday...didn't want to take a chance on running late and missing the window for athlete check-in if we left early on Thursday). |

Master 1359 South of SLC | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread I will be down there riding this weekend too. I was planning on riding the loop once in Friday and twice on Saturday, but looking at the weather I may reverse that. Where is everyone staying? Does anyone want to ride on Saturday? I will be at one of the Marriott's. I would love to meet up for a group ride either Friday or Saturday. Mike |

Master 2404 Redlands, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread Injury =\ Last two runs my achilles tightened up and ached; I'm pretty certain it was from a spin class where the instructor had us set the intensity on high (about 20 cadence) which reinjured my achilles. My wife who was in the class too has the same issue. Going to shut it down for a week and do nothing but swim, I only feel it after 4 miles into a run, so hopefully a week is all it needs, if not I'm screwed. |

My wife surprised me with this camp as a gift, I think because she wants me to be prepared as possible for this race and not kill myself. Leaving Vegas right now for the ride up to SG. I'll let ya'll know my thoughts when I get back! |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread So how is everyone's training going? I have to admit *knock on wood* that mine is going well. I keep thinking I'm going to hit the wall and feel like training is difficult or overwhelming, but so far, so good... It's been a joy. Granted, my ultimate goal is still just to finish, but I feel confident I can beat my time from my first IM. I'm starting to make plans to ride and run the course perhaps the weekend of the 13th and 20th and/or maybe the 3rd and 10 of April... |

Extreme Veteran 315 South Jordan UT | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread My training is going well. I am back on track, FINALLY, after a tendonitis injury in my ankle. I am being very cautious with it. I would rather show up for the race a little undertrained than totally injured. I am starting to get nervous about the cutoffs for the bike. I am slow. I did the loop between Christmas and New Years and averaged about 13mph. I will need to do 13.5mph in order to make the cutoffs. I am better trained now and so I assume a little faster. I think that I can do it, but it will be close. Anybody have any sneaky tips to getting through transitions and aid stations as quickly as possible? |

Regular 100 Allen, TX ( Basically North of Dallas) | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread Training is going well. I have a little tightness in my right calf but other than that I am fine. I have a big weekend planned and I did a half marathon last week and did well. I really wish I had more hills to train on but I can only work with what I got. Lots of Big chain ring riding I guess. Eddy |

If your really worried about bike time, my 2 cents would be to get comfortable going downhill fast. There is plenty of it on this course which means that there is a lot of "free" time out there for you to take....Edited by VegasJason 2010-02-25 2:20 PM |

Veteran 266 Kingwood, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread My training is going swell. February has been tough but I grinding it out. Took a day off yesterday and felt great after a long nights sleep! Plans were to get up early today and get on the trainer then take the kids to school; I thought I got up but turned out it was just a dream that I was on the trainer. Not sure if that counts or if I need to make up tonight. (: |

Expert 1258 Marin County, California | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread Mine is going(yes, knock on wood here too) ridiculously well. Going off to Portland next weekend, heading into the mountains barring snow to do some longer climbs. I am fortunate that I live where I live since I don't have much choice but to train heavy on the hills, since you cant go far without encountering them. Longest sessions now: 2.5 mile swim 3x per week 90+mile bike, will start doing c-notes next weekend with weekly total around 210miles 20 mile long run 1x per week with weekly total around 48 miles |

Champion 5781 Northridge, California | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread Training was going absolutely great...then I came up with a nasty bout of sciatica last week...hamstring and glute tight and painful when I run. Not sure why...woke up with it after a recovery week and a day off...just one of those things. Sucks hard, but nothing to be done but take care of it. Been getting better every day, but when I tested it with an easy run this morning, it set me back. So bike and swim only for a while and scrubbing planned 2nd 20 mile run this weekend. Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread I'm trying to avoid the overuse injuries this time around. I remember for my first, I had some unusual tightness in parts of my body that were usually free from issues, pains in my right knee, pulled muscles, etc... There were times I thought I may not get to the start line if they got any worse... I think I'm more fit this time around. Which is like night and day. 5 hours rides = enjoyable (but still tiring). Before? Agony... I also lucked into finding another rider who likes to go out for long rides. We both push each other to climb Mt. Charleston (15 mile non stop climb at 6.5% average). We do that every week, with a goal of doing it two times in one ride when we get closer to the race (and he is not even doing the IM). If I can do that climbe twice, the St. George climb (twice) should be cake. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman St. George - Utah : Official Thread BTW, I have no pretense of being fast on this course. I did a 15 hour Silverman and I'm hoping to be far more fit for this one. So I'm hoping to be closer to 14... I would be happy with that... The real test will be when I ride the course next month and check my bike splits. I can average 13.5 on the Charleston climb and descent (up is 6 mph - down is closer to 35-40!) and I think it has to be tougher than the IM course... |
