Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Well, did a "practice" race this weekend. It went decently but some nutrition issues to work out for the run so I can hit the goal I want to aim for at IM! But, it's time for a little off season! I need it! |

Sure it may be a mix of excited to be going home (46 days and counting) and upcoming training and racing opportunities but still, I can't wait. How's everyone doing? Ah yeah... the IM training will take that extra energy right outta ya! Ha! Not until the last 3 months though. I may have convinced someone to coach me. Maybe. I'm a handful to coach. Not really sure if he has agreed to take on the challenge... that is me... just yet. Ha! If not, I'll just coach myself. But I tend to let myself off easy... so it would be better to have someone else coach me. |

So not sure if that factors into anything. What do you like to do? Do you want adult fun? Kid fun? Both? In Dallas you have: Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (water park-may not be open then, not sure) The Dallas World Aquarium Forth Worth has an amazing zoo, museum and botanical gardens. Dallas has the same items, but the ones in Ft. Worth are much better I'll let Houston people respond to what there is to do there. |

Extreme Veteran 578 Katy, Texas | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Hello everyone. I thought I would chime in. And see about joining the group. I am a Houston resident and a IMTX 2011 finisher, my first one. I am hoping to improve upon my 16 1/4 hour finish last year. I am still deciding on training plans and whether or not i will hire a coach or not. I am leaning toward just getting a plan on BT and getting more involved with the loacl groups. Anway just wanted to say hi. |

Anway just wanted to say hi. Hey Mark, welcome to the group. I've used BT plans for all four of my IMs and they're pretty good. I also use the forums to help me out figuring things out when I need it. A coach would be great if it's possible but there are plenty of experienced people here as well as quite a few coaches who are willing to help. Good luck. |

That's too bad. It's early to drop it completely why don't you give it a bit more time to decide. I've done the training while enjoying the blessings of a newborn (a couple of times) and it is possible. As with all my training, family comes first. I'll never win anything or qualify for Kona but this is something I enjoy and it is possible to get the training in and be a good parent. I applaud you for planning ahead and thinking of your family but there is a way to have both. Just something to think about. Congrats on the incoming bundle of joy. |

Member 48 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I am having my second during training time. I decided its the best for me because after he is mobile I doubt my wife will let make this training commitment with 2 small ones around. I have recruited my mother in law. Afterward 100% daddy time. Sorry we will miss ya. It is never the wrong choice picking family time first. |

I agree. I would hold off on dropping completely so early. I finished IMTX this year and my training took a serious hit with about 7 weeks to go. I basicly was only able to train about half the time I really needed to and i still finished. You're not gonna break any time records and you wont have the easiest time in the world but if you get a good solid base going now and then on thru March, then dial it back until race day you can finish. I am running, mixing in some trainer time and thinking about how much I need to be swimming. I am getting serious just not following a plan (if that makes since). Keep me honest and I will watch you |
