The hardware, a market and the VFW were damaged in Hale, MI. I saw pictures on FB and it was pretty scary looking. The village of Hale, where it happened, is close nit and they pulled together and had it cleaned up by the end of the afternoon. My client's building will have to be torn down and rebuilt. The entire roof was torn off and dropped on top of the VFW, two buildings away. |

Expert 1255 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Took a rest day today. Barry, Thank you! For the rest of you, I rode the Ride for Hope for Wanda Williams, Barry's wife, a cancer survivor. Jim and Mitch, training in the heat just requires proper hydration which is why I just ordered 144 Nuun electrolyte tablets. I got a great deal so if anyone uses that product, let me know and I'll tell you where I got them. Mark H, I've been a NAMI member in the past. I had a really good friend diagnosed with early Alzheimer's at 61. I went through the training class. There really isn't enough help for the mentally ill in this country. I'm working a job in Tallahassee FL right now. We have several triathletes who are doing B2B and they rave about that race. Maybe someday I'll do it too. Getting nervous about my little old sprint tri on Sat. First one in two years! Going for the Grand Master title. |

353 Conroe, Texas | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success After my 4 day break I'm back on track and it feels good. I found a better spot on the lake to work on my open water swim, it is closer to the house and the water is chest deep for the most part. I am going to try it out for the first time tonight and I am anxious to see how it will work out. I will post details tomorrow. I also found a tri coach who is going to help me with my stroke, I meet with her for the first time tomorrow night so hopefully things will come together in my swimming before Aug. 2nd. Veteran 419 clayton | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Jackie I'll let the vets in the group have final say but my sprint plan had me doing bike power intervals on the Tuesday before race. from what I understand taper week is about lowering distance/time but focusing on intensity to keep muscles and energy systems firing! As always listen to your body. Just make sure there no stressful workouts between now and Saturday. Rest, hydrate, eat well, enjoy the race!!! as for B2B yes I hear its popular with the Florida crowd - come prepared for cold/hot weather and its awesome! Regarding mental health, its not just America, its a global problem, but lets start small and spread the word. So went for a 60min run this morning - 630am and 72F - beautiful! Less than an hour, including the time to ride to the hill and the ride back home. Is that a mistake this close to the sprint tri on Sat? How hot is it down there? The intensity of the effort may not be as big an issue as the heat/humidity. Assuming you take tomorrow as a rest day (complete rest day), you may be OK. Need to ask yourself, what is the purpose of the workout? Not likely to help you with the sprint tri on Saturday. If it is part of a plan, then consider how else you can augment training and maybe make it up elsewhere. If the race was on Sunday, I'd say go for it. Edited by JoePetto 2014-06-18 10:37 AM |

Member 131 Colorado | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Just stopping by to complain. The triathlon I had been registered for has been canceled. They're only refunding 50% of the fee and my one-day membership to USAT is a loss, apparently, since USAT won't refund that either. I'm angry at both, and probably more so at USAT. (Yeah, it's only $12, but I forked over $117 and will apparently get back $38.) Grrr. Not sure what to do from here. I may write USAT and see if the one-day membership is transferable to another race. If not, I think there will be no other triathlons this year. I haven't been employed for the last 9 months 'cause enrollment dropped at the college, and I don't have another $100 sitting around. (On the other hand, that would mean I have an excuse to just run and not swim tonight, which would be kind of awesome.) |

Never have seen a reputable race management not return an entrance fee for a cancelled race (or give full credit for another sponsored race). They may be legally entitled to do so, but their reputation will be shot. Was it an established organizer? Good luck with USAT (but don't expect anything. |

Member 131 Colorado | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Still annoyed about the race cancellation but less so than a few hours ago. They cancelled because not enough people registered. This was a brand new triathlon and my guess is that it was badly managed and the timing could have been better. The owner is a former triathlete, but apparently this also was her first time producing a race? The town of Grand Lake (in the mountains, 2 hours from Denver) was a fairly major co-sponsor and there were signs up everywhere in town for it, but some of the problems may include the following: (1) Boulder IM takes place a week earlier and as the first IM in Colorado, a ton of locals are doing it; (2) the only available distances were Oly and HIM, which shuts out any who might want to dabble; (3) there are sprint and Oly tris every week in the Denver metro area in August; (4) Grand Lake is cold, even in August, and races in the area tend to be small and populated most by locals and those of us Denver folk who wish we were locals, some of who may be doing the IM the week before. And (5), despite talk of a triathlon somewhere in the county for several years now, nothing's happened. Then this year, the Xterra triathlon is taking place a few miles south of Grand Lake the weekend before. This is an area that can barely support the half-mary I'm running next weekend (last year all of 82 people finished). The waiver did say the fees were non-refundable, so in theory she's doing us a favor by refunding them at all, I guess. Sorry to hear about the tornado but glad you weren't blown away like that scene from Wizard of Oz where the grouchy neighbor on her bike is flying past the window. Adding in today's 7 miles of running and yesterday's hour and 15 minutes of biking. (I did swim last night, but only for 22 minutes because husband also wanted to swim before gym closed. And tonight I just didn't bother.) Master 1609 Gold Coast Australia. | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success And another 30 min ride, just for the challenge. I was actually looking for a key I lost yesterday so had to repeat the course. Didn't find the key, but instead, found a .308 Winchester round, unfired, on the side of the street. Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Lisa- That stinks about your tri. Generally, if you were dealing with a company that does this for a living, you would get your money back or entry into another race. I hate losing money, but the secondary issue is you have been prepping for this race and you are excited its coming up and you get the rug pulled out from under you. Its like your parents cancelling the family trip to Disney the week before you go. I would probably put it toward the USAT membership. Mark- I saw the photo of your bullet on FB. I live in an area where guns a part of the way of life. Looking at the patina on it, it looks like it had been there for a very long time. .308 is a big game caliber, around here it is used for deer, elk, and bear. It is very difficult, to get it to fire, if it is not locked down it a chamber. It is an interesting find in a gun free country. Jackie- Good luck this weekend. A short hill session isn't going to hurt you for this weekend, especially if you are doing a sprint. Just make sure you take tomorrow off. I usually fill training time with a walk in the woods and stretching. It is mostly to help with nervous energy but still remain rested for the race. |

33 | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success Hey Everyone, I know I am joining late, but I just saw this. My name is Brian/itsbs2. I am 25 and am just getting into triathlon. I became interested in Triathlon when I realized how much I enjoy and need a fitness outlet, but hate being in the weight room. This time last year, I separated my shoulder for the 3rd or 4th time, and underwent surgery. I was out of commission for about 7 months and then have been able to slowly get back into it, and am just not feeling like I am at full strength. I have been athletic my whole life, playing hockey and lacrosse competitively throughout high school, and then lacrosse in college. Team sports have always been a big part of my life, so not having the motivation and support provided by a team has been the most difficult part of triathlon so far. I just completed my first race a few weeks ago (sprint distance), and though I was happy with my time, I know there is definite room for improvement. My goal for this season is just to have fun, learn where I can improve most, and become more familiar with the sport. Like everyone else, I am very busy, but exercising keeps me sane. I am and engineer in the Air Force and am stationed in Los Angeles, CA. In my free time, I am usually doing something outdoors (hiking, surfing, taking care of my garden, etc), or I am tucked away in the library working on my Masters Degree. For now, that is probably enough of me! I look forward to interacting with everyone in the group! -Brian |

I have not been able to figure out if it is cumulative weekly or monthly. Right now I dont really have any questions, my training focus recently has been on the bike, specifically indoor interval workouts. I have been swimming and running for a while now, but the bike is pretty new to me so I am trying to get that in line with the other two exercises! |

Expert 1480 Somewhere in the Swamps of Philly | Subject: RE: Consistency Equals Success So I saw the doc this week and the DX is a strain/possible slight tear of the high hamstring tendon. 100% caused by running. The good news is that I have been doing exactly the PT he prescribed, the bad news is that it actually feels no better. Likely out another 6-8 weeks. So, this will be the second season in a row where I am plagued with a fairly serious running related injury. Exceedingly frustrated. Well at least my pool memberships will get good use. Swam 2200 yds today after work. All speed sets - notably, the first time I averaged sub 1:40 pace (actually held 1:36) for a workout longer than 2000 yds. |
