Hiya Manatee Family!!

These people that are paying me to do stuff are actually wanting me to... DO stuff.  Weirdos.

As Janyne alluded to... I'm a massive klutz.  I went to go see a free performance of Oklahoma in one of the parks in Austin, only to find out at 11:30pm that the buses don't run in the park after 10pm.  So... after trying to find/hail a cab (with no success) I decided to map out how far I was from home.  Only 5km!  I can run that!

Loaded up the backpack, strapped it on and started jogging home (check out my blog for the "interesting" characters I met along the way), only to get ~50m from the entrance to my building when I tripped and went azz over tea kettle onto the sidewalk.  Sigh.  Bloody knee, bloody palms, sore wrist, bruising, and blisters from the stupid shoes I was wearing... but my phone was fine!  YAY!

I hope all is well with my favourite internet people...

Tom - Awesome job with that Oly!

Kate - training??  What's that??

Deanna - WELCOME!!!  Love the puppy pics - one of my very good friends has a brindle coloured one just like yours, gorgeous!

JB - Pikatti is absolutely adorable!

Janyne - Way to go on the HIM!  You're going to ROCK IMChoo!!

Chris - I hope the hammy is getting better

Yanti - we've always known that you're infamous, but now you're famous too!

Randee, I believe you are currently on the search for the perfect saddle. I have an older San Marco that I found comfortable until I started getting lower on the bike. If anyone wants it, it is the one pictured on the left:

I don't want a tri bike and at this stage I strongly doubt that I will do triathlons that are longer than Oly Distance.

A roadie should be perfect then!

Chris just went to bike mechanic school so I'll defer to him on the specifics.  At a glace, I do think that you'll be happy with the 105 groupset.  I'm a little less sure about the wheels.

ETA, do the bike fit!

I took another look and there was nothing that seemed off putting on the bike, although I know very little about Giant wheels. 105 parts are fine, it was explained to me that 105's are the same as the Ultegra from the previous year or 2. It seems like they roll down the technology every year or two.

Chris reminded me that I have a TYR carbon men's tri top that I've been meaning to offer up to the group. I don't have the size info with me right now but wanted to post while I remember! If anyone is interested let me know. I love the carbon stuff but a men's cut is not made for hips

I think it's the black version of this one

Bah, you triathletes will buy anything with the word "carbon" in it, won't you??

How are things pod?

I've been pretty busy. If life was a lemon I think I would say I am squeezing the sh*t out of it and eating the rind. I was thinking of running a "no-pressure/casual" 1500 on the track tomorrow night but I just happened to stumble across the tidbit that Kate Grace is racing it. DAMN! I mean, I guess I could have the pleasure of saying I was happily lapped and beaten by Kate Grace by a full 1:20 in a 1500...not many people can say that, right?

If you're eating the rind, does that mean you're living your life with zest?

Well, if I were racing it I could say I was double lapped and beaten by 5 minutes in a 1500!

My co-worker used Uber to get TO the park without any issues (except for the driver taking off with their lawn chairs, but he did eventually come back and return them), but trying to get someone to pick them up was a nightmare.

I got home before they did and they don't live that much farther from the park than I do.  If only I wasn't an exceptionally talented klutz it would have worked out great.

Wow, you guys really do talk a lot! I'm behind on my training at the moment. Sad, as I just started less than two weeks ago. I'm finishing up three summer courses and I'm in the middle of finals right now. I will be kicking it into high gear starting Thursday...once I bust out these finals. On a happier note, I just got my new running shoes! On Clouds. Woohoo!

Good luck with finals!

And feel free to ease back into training for a day or two ... we're endurance athletes.

By the way, I pretty much never do what I advise. I'm the Manatees walking cautionary tale.

P.S.  I liked the one that tied at shoulder but this one is good too.

Whew!!! Here's my attempt at 5 pages of catching up:

For inquiry minds, Mak is a rather independent sort of lass. As we were hiking back up a steeper section, she refused help..."I can do it!!!" Her little legs just don't make it over some of the logs and rocks. She caught her toe on something, and before I could grab her, she rolled backwards down into a rock. J shouldered her the last bit, she cried for a few minutes...and went back to play see-saw with T.

Wheeee Doggies! Pretty, handsome, and...smushy?

Welcome, Deanna. Glad you jumped into the nuttiness known as the Pod.

Welcome BACK, Jen... and Monica  Jen, good work getting that ride done! Hope you find a comfy seat... for the Wine Century you're doing next month

Monica- sheesh! You just bought a car, but find yourself tripping around in the middle of the night. Kicked James to the curb already? Or is he with Tony? I think the owies warranted a "sick day" so that you could catch up on BT. Next time...you know, just in case it happens again.

Stacey- in a similar bike decision boat right now. Will most likely stay with a roadie. I'm really happy with my 105 components and have considered just finding fork/frame that I like and moving everything over. If it fits your money plan, I wouldn't drop below 105. And I like the suggestions of checking on price levels of "fit"...comfortable fit vs. dialed in fit...if you're working with a budget right now.

Yanti- what is there to say? You're life makes me , , , and  , and usually within the same post Keep your head out of your soup!

Salty- maybe you should take Ms. Grace a Vesseyesque outfit to give yourself a little pace booty boost?

Yeah, we're pretty chatty most of the time.  Yay for new shoes and finishing finals!!  Don't worry about being behind on your training.  You've got your priorities straight and you'll be fine.  Be careful about kicking into too high a gear to make up for lost time - you don't want to end up with an overuse injury. Two great pieces of advice I've gotten here:  (1) If you're going to push yourself hard in a workout, be sure you're still able to do the next day's workout, and (2) never compare your workout log to someone else's unless they're at about your same fitness level.  Speaking from personal experience, doing that is a sure-fire way to feel like a pathetic wimp!!
