I used to live on the IM WI course, but I was a college student not into tris so it just annoyed me that I couldn't move my car out of my garage all day. Joanne, I'm glad you found the new trainer! He sounds great!! TJ, I don't know about aerobars on a group ride. It's a little scary in a pace line, especially if you're not very used to it. |

I love it! It's $15 for all three. Definitely doing this. -There is a glow run on a Saturday night at one of our favorite parks. It's 3 miles and I think E would LOVE doing it in the stroller with glow sticks. -Still debating on the tri at the end of July. I should probably sign up before the July 1st price bump, but I still don't want to give local race organizers money. |

Even when I'm out of touch for a few days, it feels so nice to come back to some inspires, and I know it takes time to do that Sadly, I went 8/8 for jogo last week, but it came to a grinding halt Friday. My usual AM strength was cancelled b/c my coach was racing Eagleman HIM in Maryland (she came in 3rd in her AG, 55-59), then it was pouring at night and gym on a Friday night just wasn't happening. instead, watched Bruins kick P-burgh azz and ate wings and fries and drank beer. YUM. Got an awesome ride in (on a pony) Saturday, then more laziness ensued. Does it count walking through open houses? (I wouldn't count it, so there's my answer!) Hope everyone's week is off to a good start! |

Mr. runner trainer that I was meeting with emailed me this morning to say that he was instructed by his superiors that he could not train me (basically, he costs more as he is much more experienced that the loser guy).  They are shuffling me to some loser newbie. Yes, I have a bad attitude about that. Mr. runner trainer offered to meet with me, off the record and grid, for a goal setting discussion. By the end of the meeting I was more excited than I have been in a long time about my potential. Mr. hot piglet runner trainer (long curly blond hair and very kind blue eyes) gave me his personal email and cell phone and will work with me "off the record". He is going to go to the manager and tell him that he wants to work with me and he really thinks that he can help, "afterall isn't that what this company is supposed to be about, helping clients meet their goals?"  His words, not mine. I learned so much in that hour from him. He has a Masters in Exercise Physiology, certification in Pilates, some sort of degree in sports nutrition and has worked for the Hansons (Hansons-Brooks Distance Project). He totally trains with the Hansons Marathon Method and we talked all about the science behind it, which for a science geek like me was so interesting. He made me believe in me! He even said that every time he meets with a runner he draws energy from their enthusiasm. He said he had been more motivated to sign up for a marathon (Big Sur in particular) than he has in a long time. He said he stopped doing that distance at 17 marathons. He was shocked that my PR is on the Big Sur course. He made me set a goal of 4:59:59 for Marine Corps and we set up my next 2 weeks of training (marathon, not personal). Really hoping he gets to train me. If not, at least I have a plan and a back up plan. He will get me in with Luke Humphrey (author of the Hansons Marathon Method) for coaching, if he can't train/coach me because of his employer. Your gym is managed by bureaucrats clearly with no vision for customer service or goodwill. I think yes you are going to have to suck this up and use newbie - maybe a good thing you can really teach him on how to be a good trainer. Make sure you use the surfer dude too (in any way you need to!) |

Inflated it and I could hear the air slowly leaking from the slice I was talking about last week. So I rode to my LBS, checking the tire on the way. It got a little soft on the way, but not too bad. So, I now have 2 new tires for my bike--I went with a little more flat protection than I had. Apparently they were used by a friend of the shop owner to bike across Canada, he had only one flat, and he is still using them. Not sure I will have the same experience, but we shall see. [Oh, and this info was given to me AFTER I bought them, not before :-)] |

Master 4452![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors 2013: CLOSED (exc/ Pop Tart bribes)Ok wo- and manatees, need some suggestions/advice. I am racing an Oly this Sunday, so 10km run. My longest run to this point since coming back was last Sunday at about 9.5km. So I certainly don't think it is safe to 'race' 10km at this point. But, I raced the 5km at my sprint. To this point, my long runs are consisting of run 1km, walk 1min. So for the Oly, do I run the first 5km (whether I run it all or run/walk) and then race the last 5km depending how I feel? Or run/walk the first few km, then build as I feel? Or just treat it as my long run for the week (which I am fine with, I can race the swim and bike and train through the run). Whaddy'all think? |

I CRASHED MY BIKE!! When I started my ride, the weather was nice. Then this stupid little storm cloud decided to follow me around and rain on me. "No worries" I thought. "I'll just HTFU". at 9 miles in - cruising at about 25 mph on a flat and I see railroad tracks. They are running at a diagonal angle across the road. The first track was recessed into the road. The 2nd track was not!!! My wet tire, hit the wet metal that was sitting above the road about 2 inches. It slide at a diagonal angle and down I went. I didn't have time to pop my front tire up over the railroad track. I haven't had to worry about tracks in this area, as they are all normally recessed into the road. A car was passing me, and there was no shoulder. I fell into the road, and I remember the car being pretty close to me. Of course, the first thing I did was jump up and check my bike! My calf cramped up - and I have a bit of road rash. I also have a pretty good gash on my left elbow, but I'll be ok. My baby had no scratches in the paint. Only the left peddle got a good scrape. Totally sucks, but mostly because I couldn't finish my ride, and I didn't do my run. Also had to cancel my swim lesson with my client. My Left hip My Back (not too bad really) My elbow (it got the worst of it) |
