OK I pulled the trigger and signed up for four races this morning. An almost Olympic June 8, an Olympic June 20 a long sprint in July and a sprint in Sept. I'm going to have to find something for Aug. now.  There doesn't seemd to be a whole lot of Olympic races around this part of the country.

or two races in september.  here's a good one

I was thinking about that but I have to work on my wife to do that one. She has no interest in my races so I have to see if I can work it into a vacation somehow. Wherever I make a suggestion of someplace to go at an odd time of the year she suspects some kind of subterfuge. To give her credit there usually is a race some where very close by.

Did my swim workout this morning and worked on flip turns for the first time during the cool down.  Have some work to do, but I did get over the fear of water up my nose and of looking weird working on them while others are swimming around me, including a water aerobics class in the next two lanes.

One lesson learned is that a flip turn is not a full somersault....I kept flipping and coming up facing the wrong direction. Hand/arm position seem to be key, keeping them down my side as I start the turn.  I didn't bump my head on the bottom this time around, but I am sure that will happen at some point.....

Anyway, a minor milestone, but a milestone for sure. Smile

Glenn-- I don't know how you are doing your turns but you might try pushing off the wall on your back after the flip...(swim in freestyle come off the wall doing backstroke). You might already be doing this..if not give it a try.  Once you have that down it is easy to learn to rotate onto your stomach afte you leave the wall.

Robert
That's a good point Robert. I now remember reading that somewhere that you can come off the wall in a backstroke form and rotate. I did not think of that this morning. Thanks for reminding me.

The saturday that I arrived, I was coming in from dropping my bike off in transition and rode the elevator up with both Greg and Laura.  They had been to the store to get some groceries.  Looked like she was carb loading with potato chips and junk food.  I had no idea who they were at the time, but my buddy told me afterward that they were pros.  They were both super nice, and I might add that she was not too hard to look at.

Next day, after the race, I was waiting on my friend to finish and Greg stood by me for a few to watch some of the people finish.  I asked him how he did and he said "ok".  I had no idea that he had won or was really that good for that matter.

My coach asked me the same question!  The answer is NO, I did not miss my bike at all.  It was a nice break, but with another one coming up in two weeks I see a lot of saddle sitting in my near future! I really wish I had brought some warm weather home with me.  This is downright cruel!

I notice that we no longer have a clydesdale/athena class. The OAT (Ontario Association of Triathletes) has come down with their new decision on the divisions. I guess that means that all the big guys will be pushing us little guys out of the way to finish ahead of us. Well maybe just wishing they could catch up to us to do that

Paul's parents have a timeshare in Kauai so we have been going to see them for the last 12-15 years.  This time around we are hitting Maui for about 5 days before heading over to see them in Kauai for 6 days. I love the beaches in Maui, but I really love the serenity and hiking Kauai affords.  Probably our last year going.  His mom has Parkinsons which is making it harder and harder for her to travel.

Have you been? which Island is your fav?
