playmobile31,

Have you tried calling your local member of Parliament?  They can sometimes expedite these things in situations like this.  I have seen it done for renewals and replacements of passports so it may be worth a call in this situation.  Best of luck.

SEADOCHA - 2012-07-12 8:58 AM What will your running be like this weekend? HOw many miles or minutes/hour/s are in your plan for the wknd?

I have scheduled for this weekend

Friday 45 min run

Saturday 30 min run right after the bike (2 hours)

Sunday 1 hour run

I won't know what to do with the rest of my weekend.  Hopefully the wife doesn't get any funny ideas of trying to get me to do my Honey-Do-List.

The Honey-Do-List waited all year - it can wait till AFTER the Ironman.  Your, mine, and everyone on this threads job is to finish our Taper Training and Rest.  The last thing we need to do is move stuff around and drop a paint can on our foot, or cut ourself, or get hurt doing some silly domestic chores   Trust me.  I Tapered for all of three days before Quassy and my friend asks me to help him move and I threw my back out moving a sofa couch.  It's not worth doing anything out of the ordinary this weekend.  Do some laundry, fold some clothes, vacuum or mop the floors - but I say other than that, any projects have waited this long - they can wait another week.  Not worth jeopardizing our Ironman we worked and trained so hard for.

Again, I try and keep myself busy mentally - catch up on some books, movies, anything where the body can rest and the mind can stay active

I was revisiting my training blog from this time last year.  My wife made me a funny xtranormal video.  And apparently I had one of the first bikes on my rack in transition.

We are both french citizenship so we need a passport, the driver's license is not enough for us.

I'm going to try the MP's to see if I can get support... I really didn't need that, now!

I have a question (I must be slowing down or something).  Is there an aid station within the transition tent/area?  I'm working on my calculations for my nutrition on the bike portion, and trying to work out the numbers and I have noticed that during my training I've usually eaten some form of solid food (non Gel or drink) before I actually start my ride, which I've never really factored into my nutrition before.  So I want to make sure I duplicate that and it would be nice to know if there was something that I could pick up within the transition area (Bonk Breaker or something),  If not I'll just have to throw something into my Bike bag.  Though I'm not sure how much I'll want to eat depending on how much water I swallow in the swim.

There have not been aid stations in the past for T1. There is a perform/water station as you exit T2. My preference is to stick something solid like a bagel in my bike bag and start munching on it.

Really hope this works out for you. That really sucks. If it happened to me during the taper I think I would be in jail right now for going berserk in a govt. agency! (I kid of course!)

Stay positive, persistent and a solution will appear.  Just keep the mental statement fresh in your mind that you will find a solution and you will be going to Lake Placid with your wife.  It will happen.  Stay in the solution and keep chipping away at it.

Great idea.  No kidding, tell them you've been training for 6 months for an Ironman and you can't miss it.  You'll be surprised at the sympathy this may illicit.

Hi guys!

I am going to be a volunteer this year so I can sign up for next year and I am wondering what type of payments they accept (Visa/Master/American)?!?!?

it is thru active or it is other type of registration process?

Good luck to all and thanks in advance!

I did the same last year.  I had to pay at the on-site registration.  I know a credit card was required and I believe all the ones you mention were valid.  If I recall correctly, the onsite registration is just a volunteer putting your payment information into active.com.

Later, I think you have a two week window, you use a confirmation number that they give you to log into active and complete your registration info, particularly completing all of the liability waivers.

Have fun and thank you for volunteering.

Playmobil - Don't give up. Keep calling the consulate and bug them. Eventually you WILL get someone that has a brain and will be able to help you.

I came over from the UK and have had many dealings with them. If you get the right person, they can help. Where is the nearest consulate office in relation to you? Can you go in?

Be persistent. (The squeaky wheel gets the oil)

I got one step further in the process as I have an email address where I can explain and try to push... I'll let you know but it's a tough time...

On one hand, I have MY passport so I could go, but on the other hand, I don't see myself leaving without my wife. She supported me all this year, we took a decent hotel (High Peaks) for her to enjoy, it was kind of like a vacation for both of us with an IM in the middle...

...stupid administration... stupid me...

I checked with the consulate but "it's in the process" answer does not bring anything new to me unfortunately.

And even if we could have a letter, she would still need her passport at the border; without passport, no crossing.

Alex isn't our passport embedded in our drivers license as well? Check out the migration if u can use that along with your citizenship. Good luck.

So for the first time I am contemplating racing in compression attire. I have worn the socks on runs before and will probably put them on in T2. However I have always just worn my Zoot tri shorts for the entire race in the past. Has anyone made the change to compression shorts for the run? Do you think they help? I just know from the past 2 times the last six miles really sucked as everything hurt and every downhill felt like my muscles would pop out of their skin! Thoughts? I know it is bad to do something new on race day but I am not really concerned about any negative affect a new pair of shorts my have. Nothing vaseline can't remedy!

I love compression and won't race w/o them.  My favorite are my zoot compression shorts b/c they are the most compressive (is that a word?).  I changed in to them before the run in Louisville, it made for a more comfortable run but transition took too long.  I'll be wearing 2xu compression tri shorts the entire race in LP.  I'll wear my Zoots for 70.3 and less but 112 miles on the bike is too far w/o a pad in the short.  I got the 2xu b/c they were slightly less compressive than the zoot compression tri shorts and I was afraid that so much compression would get uncomfortable after too long but I now regret that decision.  My next pair of tri shorts will be the zoot compression tri shorts.

I'm ambivalent about compression calf sleeves.  I wore them for a year or so while racing and doing long training runs but was never conviced that they helped.  Now I just put them on immediately after long runs and races b/c I do think they help with recovery.  That said, I may wear them in LP just in case they help a little and I never noticed it.

know how you will execute your race

I've run this thing at least 5 or 6 times in my mind. Now if will just come out like I plan...

Pretty tired today, tonight I sleep. Only old people like me remember this one.

Before I forget to mention it - one thing EVERYONE should pack is an extra pair of goggles. Swim goggles have a tendency to snap the morning of an Ironman. Always have a backup pair ready to go.
