KeriKadi - 2010-04-07 7:45 AM In the past week or two I have been so very excited about my race on Sunday.  The anxiety replaced with excitement and I am really looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, this morning I woke up hurting.  I am sore and achy all over.  I've done less this week to begin my 'taper' and haven't really pushed myself and am sore places like my elbows.  Last night I noticed before my trainer ride my throat was a bit swollen and it hurt a little to swallow.
I get sick like every 2 years so this is rare for me.   I already took some Emergen'C and will take some again soon and some probiotics as well.  The girls have PE today and I planned an easy 3 mile run but I think I just might skip that.  Maybe I can pop in a movie and try to cop a nap.

gavisk - 2010-04-07 11:59 AM Take zinc every 3 hours. Zicam quick-dissolve lozenges are the best, IMO.  I find that if I feel at all like something viral is starting up, zinc will usually knock it back.  I also take echinacea tea, but I think the effect there is mostly placebo.

Also keep in mind that even if you do get sick, chances are good that you won't feel it at all in your race.  Adrenaline will likely kill all of your symptoms temporarily.  I once ran a half marathon during the worst part of a horrible cold, and those couple of hours were the only relief I had for days!

Take care of yourself!  Take a nap!

kcarroll - 2010-04-07 10:35 AM Kelli, glad you are feeling a bit better and CONGRATS on getting into NYC!!!!!  That's terrific news.  I did not fare so well in the lottery.  Now I have to decide if I want to get in via fundraising or find another race.  Philly is close and about the same time, but it is nothing like NYC.  I did the half last year and not sure I want to do the full there.  Hmmmmm.  Much to ponder. 

KelliD - 2010-04-07 1:20 PM Thanks for everyone for all the well wishes, it's so much appreciated and really means a lot!  I'm feeling about the situation and I think the pity parties have come to a halt.  I feeling more focused on what I can do, rather than what I can't.  MRI after work tonight.

And, on a happy note, just found out I got into the NYC Marathon!  Exciting and scary.

Nicole83 - 2010-04-07 4:00 PM Hope I'm not too late to say Contgrats to Eric and Betsy.  It's been really cool getting to "know" both of you guys over the past year and a half or so and I can honestly say that you two are SO right for eachother.  I hope the wedding itself isn't too stressful and that it comes out beautifully, but the life you guys are going to build as a Mr and Mrs is going to be just beautiful.

Oh yah, and you can have crazy a.ss smacking sex without any of that God guilt.  That's a plus too.

Emmanem - 2010-04-08 9:27 AM I want to stick around!!  I hope everyone else does too.  I've grown very fond of this MG.  I love how much support and encouragement I get here.  And I just registered for my first tri so everyone has to stick around so that on May 15th I can come tell all of you about how I didn't drown on the swim, crash on the bike or trip and fall flat on my face on the run
