Veteran 237 WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread A neat thing I saw this weekend at the 1/2 mary I did was on the mile marker for 22 of the full and 9 of the 1/2. It was a small metal door attached to the mile marker sign and on it was written "Through every wall there is a door." Think I'll be thinking about that at some point of the race day. |

Nice shoes, Kid. :D The Zoot TT 4.0s are going to be my race shoe too, but I'm not super happy about it. They just get to go to the show because I don't have anything better at this point. I ran out of time and money trying to find something else. I know I'm going to get blisters and it really frustrates me. I have shoes that work on the trail and shoes that work on the treadmill, but no shoes that are 100% on the road. Sorry. Rant done. It just sucks to know you are going to be in pain that is avoidable.
That's a bummer. I'll be wearing mine on race day for sure, but will probably have my KSwiss Blade Lights in my SN's bag just in case.
I've probably put 80 miles on my TT4.0's, including my longest run of 20 miles. No blisters or problems at all. The right heel tab did rub at the tail end of that long run, but I've since coated it in body glide and its no problem. Plus, I can fold it back and it will stay if things start going badly. |

That does stink! Where do you get the blisters? Have you considered a separate pair of shoes (trainers) in your special needs bag that will let you mix it up? Blister-free in trail shoes sounds better than blistered up in lightweight trainers to me. Edited by JoshKaptur 2011-06-14 5:05 AM |

Blister-free in trail shoes sounds better than blistered up in lightweight trainers to me. Ooooh -- I like this idea of another pair of shoes in SN. I almost always get blisters... have tried various shoes/socks/lacing/etc. There doesn't seem to be a whole lotta rhyme or reason to it -- and I never feel them when I run, I just find them after. I only get them on longer runs (13+ miles) and don't always get them. I mix up my shoes a lot (rotate about 4 pairs) but keep 1-2 styles specifically for long runs. Might feel good to switch out if it's a long day out there. Doesn't hurt to throw something else in there, for sure. Ya just never know. BTW, some folks pack SN as if you won't get the bags back again. I tried to do that last year, but did want the bags back if possible. (I had a tech t in my SN run bag -- not a fave one, but one I would opt to get back.) I was surprised at how easy it was to find my SN bags the next day. I was led to believe by race organizers it would be chaos to find them (not sorted, etc.) but it was pretty easy for me. |

I have enjoyed this thread immensely, I appreciate that a common goal can bring people together. I will say "Hey" to any of you I recognize. Will be at one of the swims hopefully. You all have inspired me so much, wish I had more time to participate in discussions. For a over year now my 3 year old has asked me "Are you running?". "Are you swimming?" "Are you riding your bike?", knowing that I will be gone. Most heartbreaking she asks..."Are you here, are you home?". I have been gone/training so much, and she makes me realize it more than anything else because she wants me to be "here" so badly.June 26 will be a splendid day. Casey Klein |

So excited to meet all of you!!! Thats a great idea, last year was pretty hot, I ran through the misters and my feet got wet. They blistered and bloodied up pretty good, I was so thankful to have a pair of dry socks in my special needs run bag.... |

I find the CEPs begin to bother me after 5-6 hours. Also it'll allow me to have fresh (not wet) socks for the run. Anything under 17 hours is gravy for me so I'm all about comfort. Besides the Zensah's only take a few seconds to get on and off. (The subsequent leg cramp however might take longer) |

In peace there's nothing so becomes us as modest stillness and humility But when the blast of the start cannon blows in our ears, Then imitate the action of the tiger Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage ... We are a great looking crew this year. Hopefully we can take a page from Chrissie's playbook and remember to smile and remind ourselves how much fun we are having. I watched Kona 2009 last night and I don't think I ever saw Chrissie without a smile. How could she not be happy; she was crushing Paula's record and Mirinda was a distant second 10 minutes behind running @ record marathon leg pace. Pain is assured, but suffering is optional. |

Blister-free in trail shoes sounds better than blistered up in lightweight trainers to me. My trail shoes are too minimal (NB 101s), as are my treadmill shoes (Nike Free Run+, these will be my marathon shoe in another year, but I'm not there yet). The TTs are just slightly too big for me in some ways, but I can't size down or I would end up with foot numbness. I get blisters on my three smaller toes. I only takes around 6 miles for this to start happening. The heel tab isn't a problem for me since I wear socks. I've tried lots of different socks thinking the shoe/sock combo might be the problem. Using body glide on my toes helps. I'll apply in T2 and carry a packet in case I need it. I'll also have extra, different style, socks in my special needs bag. I'm just hoping to avoid blisters on the ball of my foot that can happen after the bike depending on my electrolyte blance. I better stop whining about my shoes or HB gonna come smack me upside the head with his nasty paw. |

When I mentioned it to my husband he was like 'Yes! Rent the damn thing." I guess running around on race day guessing where your athlete maybe gets a bit frustrating. The funny thing is that this year our rental is in a good spot on the bike and run course so I bet they never leave after coming back from watching the swim start. They will be the obnoxious people out around mile 5 or 6 just before bennet bay on CDA lake drive drinking very good beer and ringing cow bells. If you look at the beer too long they will offer you some (it won't be defizzed ). |

I have not seen anything on the IM website about it so I am guessing if I do this again, I will have to do it at the expo. The VIP tent was awesome. Had a huge buffet, private bathrooms, closed circuit TV and a great viewing stand to watch runners heading into the finish chute. Best of all, athletes got free entry and the burger and fries really hit the spot as a post-race meal. OTOH: It might not be worth it since the hot zone at CdA is much more open and friendly for spectators. Edited by WaterDog66 2011-06-14 12:37 PM |
