Question for the group; if you plan your long run for late afternoon, how do you plan your eating leading up to the run?  I typically do my workouts first thing in the am, mostly on an empty stomach, and yesterday's 8 mile 3pm run did not go well.  Felt like I was going to vomit from mile 2 on.

This is something I am still learning as well. I'm trying to do my long runs during the week now. Start around 3-4pm. I'm at work early(6:30) so i eat when I get here. I've learned to eat lunch early as well.(11) Then later afternoon I pound a cliff bar or something to that equivalent about an hour or so before the run. Anything more solid than that - tummy will not like while running. Sometimes I'll pop a gel or something as I walk over to the changerooms to get ready.

Christina, I suffer, too, on afternoon runs. (no jokes from the peanut gallery!). What did you eat yesterday? I find I have to eat lightly, seems like a turkey sandwich or something like that works for lunch and I have to have 2 hours between lunch and run...I don't do well with salads or too much fiber (or Ramen noodles!). And drink enough water during the day, but nothing for at least an hour pre-run. So far it's trial and error! Oh and no cheese or dairy for me. As an aside, how long was long and do you always do empty stomach? I have forced myself to eat in the morning for anything 90 minutes or more...has helped me maintain energy.

I just have to chime in here and say that I love the way you all tease and harass each other.  It's very cool and very fun.

Kyla, you eat anything and everything you want and go ahead and eat it anywhere you want.  You earned it!!!  I can't even imagine how fatigued and restless your body must be.

Birdy, you've got to watch out for those German viruses, they're the worst.

Ok, I'm trying to get motivated to get out on the bike.  I'm going to be traveling for a few days and need to get moving, or I'm going to screw up my training week before it ever gets started.  Here I go. . . really. . . . I'm going . . . . I hate biking when it's windy . . . . ok, I'll stop whining now. . . Laughing  I think I'm finally over the trauma from that first race swim . . . Thanks for all of your support.  Next race, long sprint, Aug 6th.  ok, I'm getting on that bike now!

eating pizza in the bathroom is NOT cool.  even the morning after IM.

just sayin'

I'm guessing there are some sleeping kids in the untold part of this story.

I can always count on Julia to have my back. Thanks, girlfriend!

So I wake up around 2:15, restless. Around 3:30 I'm STARVING but only for salty foods. I had a cup of potato chips from the finish area near my bed. Ate those. I knew there was pizza in the fridge and I was so hungry. But yeah, one kid in bed with me, one sleeping husband, and a very long day for those not competing. So I quietly took my pizza and my iphone into the bathroom, sat on the toilet (CLOSED LID -- I was NOT using the bathroom!!) and ate. And stupidly texted John so he could tease me about it later. What was I thinking?! Ha!!!

Trying to pack up and get outa here. Quick stop to the site to see if I can retrieve special needs bags, maybe check out the finisher's gear, and hit the road. I did score an awesome 2010 Finisher's jacket for 50% off before the race! So cool cuz I didn't buy anything last year so now I have a jacket for that one, at least.

You guys rock!

Kyla - you're an Ironman, you don't have to defend yourself to anyone.  Feel free to eat pizza when ever and where ever you choose.  Congratulations on another awesome achievement.

OK - I mis-read this whole thread.  I thought you were having pizza in the bath room after completing an Ironman.  First I am thinking..."why would John have a problem with that?".  Then I am thinking..."anyone who is willing and able to have pizza in the bathroom after PRing an Ironman - more power to ya!".

Now that I realize that this is really just about pizza, I will just go back to reading the rest of the pages I missed over the last few days...

Not to underwhelm Kyla's achievement and then pizza on the toilet story , but really George. how hard can it be??

She said she was just sitting on the toilet having pizza. It's probably not that hard to just SIT and have pizza. We do not know the whole story. Someone may have been feeding her the pizza.

John and Matt - How old are your kids that are learning to ride without training wheels?  I have been working on my recently turned 5 year old and he seems to want no part of it.  Not sure if I should push him a little more or let him tell me when he is ready.

edit - for some reason, I can't see Matts pic on either my home computer or my work computer.  Saw the vids though and they are great!
