Subject: RE: TAN 34 - We'll behave this time.chadtower - 2008-07-17 8:55 AM I was always the guy in the corner not saying a word and moving very slowly. I was the quiet focused guy trying to stay out of the way of the dumbasses burning it all off slamming heads into lockers and screaming. Heh. Yep. Me too. I would usually be listening to something hard rock/heavy metalish on my headphones. Funny how my pre-race/game routine has not really changed all that much in 20+ years. I have always retreated into music before a game or a race, or even a jump (high jump). Visualization would take over while I was listening to the music, seeing myself doing what I was about to do. Doing it the way I was supposed to do it. Doing it right. All of that still holds true today. Before a race, but after the warm up, I've got the head phones on, listening to something (usually Metallica or GnR or something equally blood pumping) while seeing myself (in my minds eye) doing the swim perfectly, going through transition smoothly, a running mount on the bike, thinking about absorbing the pain on the run, etc. Then with about 5-10 minutes to go, the music is put away, and I go through the whole race again. I've been doing it for so long, I don't think I know any other way to get ready. |
