I have a question about Maple syrup, the real kind. does that count?

And admittedly, I'm not totally following the challenge whole-hog, I'm looking more at getting more water which I've already done and I've managed 3 days without ANY junk food!  My meals are still just standard fare, I haven't changed those, but I've cut out all the candy, pretzles, potato chips, cookies, etc.

I think I did find a good find.....let me know what you think. Go to trader joes and look at the Diet hansen's drinks. I believe sugar (or any form) is NOT within the top three ingredients.

Funny thing is I'm craving a candy cane. I'm not a big peppermint person, but it just seems non-christmasy not to have one!

Hi all -

I wanted to have something for my kids to leave out for Santa, so I knew I'd have to buy or bake some cookies...well, I was so happy to find petit fours ( sp?) at the bakery, sold seperately.  I bought 4, 2 for my kids and 2 for Santa (husband to eat them, not me!)  I was so happy to just buy them individually, b/c if I bought a whole thing of sweets, I'd be fighting with myself all night!

I have to say I appreaciate this challenge and the accountability so much.  When I went off sugar and lots of other crap last year, I would still lean over to my husband's Coke and take a few sips.....now, a sip would cost me a ding, and it is so not worth it!

Regarding the Holiday Mulligan...I have to wait until the 27th, b/c we are taking a no-kids trip to Indy for the night and dinner out....I plan to Mulligan big time on dessert!

Happy Holidays  to all!  Liz

Oh for sure I am taking my mulligan tomorrow. My mother will make my favorite no bake cheesecake with reeces bits on top. I am going to try to only eat the mulligan at my parent's house. No sweets at my in laws house.

It seems like every afternoon I get a craving for something sugary. It is my weakness in life. I could live without fried foods, junk foods like potato chips and doritos, but not sweets.

It has been hard for me to be without my crystal light. That is It is how I get my 64 oz of water down. Drinking water is much easier for me on my workout days. Today I took off so I am strugggling to chug my h2o.

Merry Christmas to ALL!!!!!

I got a ding today.  I was craving sugar so bad and went to the grocery store to buy a sandwich for lunch (my grocery store has basically an entire food court on the one side).  While at the grocery store, I intense sugar craving got the best of me when I saw the pile of baked goods at the entrance.  I bought a six-pack of cupcakes, since I couldn't buy them singly.  I brought them home, ate 2, and destroyed the other 4.  (I can't just put things in the trash can; I have to destroy the food with cat litter.)  I felt really bad after I did it, but I can't seem to get past the point of the intense craving.

I will be using my mulligan on Christmas Day, so I will be back to no sugar on Friday.

If I didn't destroy the other 4 cupcakes, I would have pulled them out the trash can and ate them.  Yes, the sugar junkie in me will pull food out the trash can, hence the need to make the food inedible.

I am an addict!

I'm not taking my mulligan on Christmas.  I'm saving it in case I accidently or mindlessly eat something I shouldn't - then I'll use it.

Look at the positive that you destroyed the other 4...that really is a good step.

Think of a step that can prevent the choice to buy them in the first place....eat before you shop? Just thinking out loud here....

This is brutal!  I'm starving and would eat just about anything right now. Headache, stomach complaining and lusting food in general.  I'm sitting here still waiting for dinner.  We went to church and then the spinach lasagna went in the oven. Wife puts out chips, pretzel, pig in the blanket, mozzarella sticks and shrimp.  I ate six shrimp and passed on the rest.  The spice chips were hard to pass up.  I had to leave the room.

HELP!

Is your family making fun of you like my 19 year old sons are?

I made cookies with my daughter got them in the oven and went upstairs to take a bath while they baked as I didn't want to smell them or see them fresh out of the oven.

We are tough though....most folks here on BT laughed when we said what we were doing and starting Monday. It is what separates us we really really want to do this and be successful.

Good news I'm down 3 pounds since Monday.

I feel all of your pain.  MY five year old left of the yummiest cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer.  So I'm eating reindeer food!  Who's crazy idea was this diet anyways!?

Mark, you can eat the pigs in a blanket... oink oink.

Come Jan 1st, I hope we'll all be past the cravings and stomach aches, and we'll be down a few pounds and this will all have been worth it.  God I hope so.

I think even "fake sugar" is banned.  Isn't fake sugar what Diet soda is made of?

Can't wait for the assault tomorrow, when I turn down most of the food.

I'll see what I weight in the morning.  Bet I'm still 180 =(

Sorry to me "pigs in a blanket" is junk food.  Who knows what is in the franks and dough.

Even after dinner (trying to control my portions too!), my head still hurts, still VERY hungry.  I drank three big glasses of water with dinner.  So it's time to go to bed. Bet I'll be up to pee at least three times tonight with all that water.

I need a ruling.  A couple times a month I will do a long run on Saturday and end up at this little restaurant.  My guy meets me there and we order the multigrain pancakes and an omelette.  We each eat a quarter of the pancakes and omelette and then take the other half home to have on Sunday.  Now, I am pretty sure that the Saturday breakfast is OK because that is part of an established training routine, but what about Sunday?  Actually, that is part of the same established training routine, but does not necessarily (but it might) come within an hour of a workout.  Would having the pancakes on Sunday be OK if I made sure to get my run in before breakfast?

Otherwise, I am amazed to find that I have been able to ignore the candy and cookies and such - the same candy and cookies that last week I was stuffing in my face as quickly as possible.  I am a black and white kind of person - I deal better with no cookies than one cookie.  Pretty sad.  Nevertheless, I suspect that I will be taking my holiday pass tomorrow.  My son's fancy breakfast might include forbidden foods, but it won't happen until 10am.  At 7am will be blueberry scones as cooked by me - from a mix and I already checked and sugar is ingredient number 2.  I don't know if I can avoid a scone because I don't know what other food would be available and I might not be able to wait until 10am for breakfast.  So, I am prepared to use my holiday pass tomorrow.  I am hoping not, but am resigned.

Unless you put a ton of syrup on said pancakes I don't see how they violate any rules?????

By the way, as I read the rules, even if sugar wasn't in the top 3 for the scones they would still be against the rules per the no junk food (defined as chips, pretzels, PASTRY, etc.) rule....

OK - I am really bummed, stepped on the scale this morning and I am up by exactly 1.6 lbs since 3 days ago......how is that possible????  I know, I know, people say that the body fluctuates, blah, blah, blah, but it is really dissappointing to see.  Plus, I went running last night and felt so sluggish.

I don't put any syrup on the pancakes, but I thought the pancakes themselves were questionable.  Thanks for the reply.

I'm craving cookies today.   good news is I can do pancakes without syrup, just a little butter.  headaches still are bad.

I have to hand it to all the parents out there. Thats tough. And I'm soooo glad I"m doing this post-school.  The christmas treats the kids were giving me would have been tough.

KathyG - 2008-12-16 6:54 AM Are you following a book or plan? If so which one is it?

It's a combination of several different Diet Plans

Again - Cannot Eat: Soda - Junk Food (ice cream, donuts, pretzels, chips, etc...)  - No Chocolate - no artificial or added sugars.

Can Eat: fruits, veggies, meats, honey, breads, pasta, rice, any food where sugar is not listed in the top three ingredients, alcohol (except for sugary liqueurs)

Exception List: an hour before, during, and an hour after training you can have gels, any sports drinks, and you can get your chocolate fix with powerbars or chocolate protein shakes.  So this diet plan in no way affects your training nutrition plan.

Wine is okay ... have a Merry Christmas

I think our bodies might be a little confused at the moment, and maybe trying to hold on to what we have. I say give it a couple weeks and we will see some big changes. I lost a pound, but I weighed right after a 5 miler, so it had to be water.

After work I'm heading over to my parents for some Christmas and birthday fun. As a gesture of solidarity I may just blow out the candles and skip the cake.

Let's hang in their for another week, we will have a bunch of New Year's resolutionist to prop us up. Mentally we will be way ahead of the game starting a challenge, this time of year.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to anyone that celebrates it!  Today was brutal.  I definitely used my mulligan.  My family was not supportive.  My Mom kept trying to pass cookies in front of me.  She even made me a whole batch of sugar cookies to take home.  When I refused them, she got upset.  I don't even feel bad about making her upset, as I told her ahead of time that I didn't want the junk in my apartment.  The one thing that I have learned about my family is that every family event includes food, which is why my entire family is overweight.

I did get some good presents, though.  My sister got me some glow sticks (the disposable ones that are given out at IM events) for running in the dark.  My Mom got me a blinking light that I can strap to my arm.  I also got some clothing in smaller sizes so that I could shrink into them.  (I have realized that the bad thing about losing weight is spending a lot of money on new clothes.  Even if I just stick to basics in the new sizes, the cost adds up.)
