Regular 70 Wilmington | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Last year we dropped the T1 back off at the same time we dropped our bike off on Friday. You hang it up on a rack, labeled out by race number. The rack was right at the entrance to the changing tent. The other bags are dropped off in various areas broken out by both bag number and bib number. When you get done changing, our just getting out of your wetsuit, you cram everything you want back into the same bag, carry it out of the tent and leave it at a designated spot. The T2 bag is carried from T1 over to the battleship on race morning and set up on similar racks. Volunteers grab your bike as you enter T2 and either hand you your bag our will point it out for you to grab. You can drop off the other bags on Friday or on race morning. Again, in transition, you cram everything you want back into the bag and drop it off. Bags were laid out the same way at the end of the race for us to pick up within T2. Of course all of this was covered in the athlete packet and the race briefing. Glad you had a good ride down here yesterday. Hopefully the weather will be like last year and with little wind. 421 stinks with either a N-NE or S-SW wind. You get a long slog into a headwind, either on the way out or heading back, that you experienced yesterday. Also, they did block off one lane on 421 on the way out and back, and they highly recommended that we ride in the lane, just left of the fog line, and not the bike lane due to possible debris. Hope this helps. Edited by markfw 2009-10-18 8:55 AM |

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Thanks for all the great info. Seems like it should be pretty simple with the bags. I'd like to get a chance to meet some more BT folks and plan on attending the athlete dinner Thursday night. I tend to eat some pretty bland dinners the night before a race, that's why we won't be out to eat on Friday night and will do something simple at the house instead. I'd really like to see some familiar faces on the run course, nothing like looking for others and exchanging an easy shout or high five to keep the motivation going and keep the mind from thinking about the pain of the run. Either way the wife and I will be around Sunday and Monday to relax a bit before flying out on Tuesday. We plan on eating, drinking and enjoying Wilmington since our season will be OVER! Let the taper madness begin (actually I feel relieved the big weeks are now done with and I may actually ride my bike outside tomorrow and won't need the trainer again until the end of the week) Steve

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread I am not arriving until Friday, so won't be going to the Thursday evening athlete dinner. I am going to the cruise on Sunday, should be fun. I sure hope we have nice weather for the race and cruise. Only a few people are interested in the Friday evening 5pm dinner idea. I'm going to ask a couple of my swim buddies to see if they want to join us. I like the idea of Fat Tony's because it's within walking distance to the Hilton. There was a lot of traffic last Friday evening at 7pm, so would like to avoid driving around town! keyone - 2 (me) Skippy74 - 1 trizimmermann - 1 mr2tony - 2 |

Do we get to check out bike in the morning, or is Friday the last we see it? Just wondering about filling up water bottles, and my perpetuem mix. And checking my tires! So many things are going thru my mind! |

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread Shouldn't be a big deal. I figure we check our bikes in on Friday, then we can visit it at T1 before taking the shuttle to the swim start, or at least that's what I planned on. I'll drop my bottles off then and kick the tires. Is there a decent bike shop near downtown Wilmington? Since I'm flying now I'll have no air in the tires when I arrive and won't be bringing a real pump. |

So many things are going thru my mind!Yes, you check your bike in on Friday, then on Sat. am you will go to T1 and put on nutrition, pump up tires etc., then they have busses taking folks down to the swim start. There really isn't any place to park at the swim start so tell your SO that if they want to see the swim start they will need to run (only a 2 mile or so jog) from T1 to swim start or ride a bike or something. My husband will be running to the swim start (we are staying at the beach), then watching the start & running to T1. I think we might do Thurs. dinner depending on what time we arrive, I hit the sack around 5pm on Friday (read, watch tv etc.) so I am out for a Friday dinner. I am REALLY hoping my sister goes into labor on Sat. night & I have to leave to meet my new nephew right after the race, but if not we might do the awards cruise if there is still space left. Ofcourse now that it's taper time the weather is beautiful and outside riding is perfect!! I'm just going to enjoy it and hope that race day looks like this!!! |

Since I'm driving down from VA I'll have a "real" pump with me---we'll get you taken care of!!! Speaking of that (those of you flying in) is there anything else people want/need that they can't fly with (ie---CO2) that one of us driving might be able to bring to make things easier?? |

Master 2202 Canton, Michigan | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread I had some 16g threaded Co2's I can't take now and a can of Pit Stop in case I flat that won't be traveling. I figure there will be a shop in town to pick up a few Co2's and I'll donate them anyone after I finish. If anyone has extras and want's to lend me 4 threaded Co2's I'll return them at the finish or Sunday morning. We've actually had nice enough weather the last two days and I rode my bike outside which was a nice change as I was getting ready to melt down my trainer in a blast furnace. The only issue was I had to move up my long ride from my usual Thurs/Friday to today, but it was awesome to feel the sun again. |

They say that they EXPECT me to be there, so now I am just faced with having to deal with the stress of getting permission which will not be easy to do. But I will be at B2B! Rant...complete. I love my country, but I also love not getting screwed out of this opportunity for B2B |

I think bike tech support is supplied by a bike shop called Two Wheeler Dealer which is in Wilmington. I'd be glad to bring some threaded Co2's. Are you staying in the Hilton? |

I love my country, but I also love not getting screwed out of this opportunity for B2B That sucks! Working for any government entity pretty much blows and can throw off ones training and racing plans. My rescue team was sent for a two week FEMA collapse training last year that the feds changed from fall to spring and threw me off my HIM program, so I understand your pain a bit. It was the reason I planned a mid summer race since I thought I'd be sent out of town for two weeks in the fall. Good luck working things out and thanks for serving!

I scored this by having a buddy who was going to do the HIM himself but has some legs issues , so he still wanted to participate and is doing the bike and since I had did not have a tooo bad 1 mile swim at the WIlmington YMCA tri in September 25m:51sec (running to T1) and now I can just go balls to the wall and rest in T1 |

Bag#1 Will be taken to the start with you. your clothes that you take off at the beach can be put in there and will be returned Bag#2 T1 bag. Bag#3 Special needs bag for the half way point at the bike. Bag#4 T2 bag. This will be delivered to the transition at the Battleship Bag#5 Special needs bag for the halfway of the bike. Bag#6 Finish bag. For clothes that you would like to have at the finish. Bags 2-6 will be turned in at T1 when you catch the bus to the beach for the swim start. I volunteered last year and they did a great job getting the bags delivered. Should this read bag #5 is the special needs bag for the RUN? I am confused. Carol, Doug and I might be in for dinner on Friday night, let me check on a few things and I'll get back to you. |

Good to know we get a Bag #6 for post race clothing. That way my husband doesn't have to lug something around all day. Might need a warmup jacket or something. Hope you and Doug can make dinner :-) |
