Here in Minnesota it’s a design day.  That means that today it is hotter than what the air condition is designed for and should not keep up.  What is a design day?  In Minneapolis/St. Paul, that is a day where the dry bulb temperature is 88 degrees and the wet bulb temperature is 71 degrees.  That calculates out to a certain amount of energy (specific enthalpy) of ~34.7 BTU / lbm of air.  So although today it is only 85 degrees out, the wet bulb is almost 75.5 degrees and that calculates out to a higher specific enthalpy.  Right now the meteorologists are predicting a high of 92, if that happens then today the energy in the air will be about 17% over design.  How cool!

Here, let me translate.  Even though the AC is supposedly on, it still feels like the inside of a running shoe after an August triathlon.  You know the feeling.  You've been dumping water on your head during the whole run course.  Your feet are kind of squishy.  Just like that.

*cough* bump

Infernal wind!!!  Made for a vicious commute this morning.  That's the lame thing about having a commute that only goes in one direction.

I just keep reminding myself - this morning's headwind is this evening's tailwind...

I hope that's true for you!

When I commute, I usually have a tailwind but it's uphill   Then the way home, I get a wicked headwind.   I swear!

I rode after work last night and even though I've done this route a 100 times, I found myself thinking "Wow, I am so fast."  Then, I turned around...

My commute is pretty much dead flat (Hugo to Anoka).  You know it's one of those windy MN days though when you're pedaling hard...downhill.

In reference to your comment about riding yesterday, I have that thought all the time!!  Biking home thinking "dang I've gotten so much stronger this week, I'm really rocking it"  then I see the flags blowing and it's 10 mph tailwind doing the work...

Went for a run yesterday and my wife wouldn't let within 6 feet of her when I got home.  It's gross out there!  If you don't want to sweat yourself into oblivion today, you probably want to have started your workout a half-hour ago or perhaps wait until midnight before you start.  Bring on October.

I did 8 miles last night and came home looking like I had wet my pants.  I know I sweat a lot, and my shirt is normally soaked, but when my running shorts look like I jumped into a pool... you know its hot!  Even worse today.  Glad I have a swim and maybe a bike tonight, will see though.

It's simply disgusting out there.  I petted the dog and two cats on my way to the house from the driveway and all three animals were soaking wet from the fog.  I can actually see the fog rolling across the deck.  It looks like smoke, but it's not.  Ick.

Just got back from a 3 mile slow slog and it sucked.  Still sweating after a cold shower and 30 minutes of down time.

See, the bummer about the above complaints is they were made by folks who simply do not have to work during the summer and therefore get to ENJOY the day time from somewhere else other than an office...

But, I do feel for ya...

(actually, I no longer work on Mondays and i had to stop myself from complaining about the heat yesterday as I walked from the mall to my car.)

This does suck, though.  Fortunately I have given up any serious working out, so I can skip hot weather runs now.

I hear ya.  I am not allowed to wear the gray running shorts for the duration.   My husband questioned my bladder control a few weeks ago, not to mention they stick in uncomfortable ways.

Ha! You guys need to move up north. I don't think we've been warmer than 82 more than a couple days all summer. Yesterday (and today) we have sunny and 82 with moderate humidity - the rest of the week is upper 70's... Right now (1 p.m.) it's 79 with dew point of 59, while I see you guys are already 90+.

Who let you in here?  Why aren't you whining?  Didn't you notice the title of the thread?  This isn't the 'Gloat about the weather thread'.

I cannot believe this thread surfaces in August! Seriously - Minnesota - where five months of the year we freeze our eyelids off on the bike and wear wetsuits til mid-June.

I say butch up. I'm hitting the track tonight (BTW, if you see anyone passed out at the Park Grove HS track, call 911!)

Good luck with survival this week, but don't wish too hard for it to end - running tights weather is right around the corner.

I'll take running tights weather over this, thanks.  Layers work for the most part.  You can only take off so many layers, though, before getting arrested.

Ha ha, I also love the winter tights.  Everything is good when I can wear tights.

Performance also suffers somewhat in the heat, I love biking, and will do it in the heat, but the running is brutal.

Winter running much better than summer running in heat
Summer biking >>>>>>>> than trainer biking.

Guess I should not complain so much.

Jeff - you're right, biking in the heat is AOK!  As is swimming.  In fact, swimming when it's hot is the bomb.  Much better, in fact, than swimming in the winter.

Eric - what can I say, it's been a looooong year.  Did you read my Waseca tri RR yet?  I think I am just kind of done.   Only fun from here out.

I looked at the forecast for the rest of the week and it's not bad!

Looks like we have some justification for whining about the weather:

http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/99906319.html?elr=KArks:DCiUHc3E7_V_nDaycUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU

We've had more hours (108) at dew points above 70 then any of the last 3 years.  Last year we only had 17.
