Las Vegas | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread So some people have stated their goals...what about everybody else? I have been thinking about it today (well, I guess it culminated today in the creation of my ultimate goal), and here's what I have come up with: Easy (relatively speaking) goal: Sub 10:30 with a strong finish Ultimate goal: Sub 9:45 with a Kona Qualification I know, you probably look at my ultimate goal and think it's quite lofty, and you're right. But I'm a competitive person. If I don't have something that challenges me to push myself as I train for this race, I'll lose motivation. I broke it down today in my blog, and I think my ultimate goal time is attainable if I train hard and smart. So, everybody else, what is your goal? |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread This will be my third IM and I am making my goal the same as the other two. To finish and have a satisfying race. I think to put a time on the day is dangerous and I am very competitive too. You are going to get what your fitness and intelligence have to offer if you train and learn your performance well, and the conditions line up right. We just saw some really good athletes struggle in IMKY due to the heat. Who knows what we may up against? I think its best to be realistic about the monumental task in front of us and welcome the uncertainty without the fear of meeting a somewhat arbitrary time goal. |

Expert 839 Portland, OR | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm with PhatKnot on the finishing and having a satisfying day. For me (and this will be my 3rd IM) my goal is to get to the starting line. Once I'm at the starting line the day will be what it is and I decided a long time ago that if I could get to the starting line well trained and ready to race that everything else would be icing on the cake and you know what? It has been. I'm a BOP athlete but lining up to race next to super elite athletes is something that is totally awesome and to know that I was fully confident when I started that I had what it took to finish was a great accomplishment. Of course making the cut-offs and finishing before midnight is important but I didn't want to kill myself during the day to do that just in case I could be putting myself at risk for major illness or injury because as IMKY illustrated, you just never know what the day will bring.... I finished both races with plenty of time to spare and in my 2nd IM I almost DNF'd during the swim but went on to cut almost an hour off my overall time from the prior year so focus on starting and then enjoy the day |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm definitely not ready to post up any time goals. I have some ideas I'd like, but it'll all depend upon how training is going. Get me within 6-8 weeks of race day and I'll have a better idea of how I think I might do. I know I have a lot of work to do to become comfortable with the hill climbing on the course and I hope to use some of this winter to build that. That really is one of my big interim goals--climbing on the bike. I've joined a Master's swim group and hopefully that helps me too. The run--it's all about maintaining my fitness with all of it. I like Phatknot's "satisfying" finish concept, but I WILL ultimately have time and race goals cause I'm too personally competitive of a person to NOT have those. BUT, I am not ready to throw them out there yet...at least not to the masses. |

Thank you for your post, re: get to the starting line. I think we so often forget that a lot can happen in training and in life. To arrive at the starting line, trained, rested, healthy and ready is an admirable goal and that is my first goal. Do I want to finish? OF COURSE, I do. I also want to be as competitive as possible in my AG. Ultimately, I'd like to finish strong (as possible) and with a smile and no major hurts or owies. I'm sure I'll have some time goals a couple of months out.

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Goals, Goals, Goals.... Yeah I definately have some. Right now they seem more far fetched than anything, just cause I am so far from the shape I want to be in come June 26. Like many have said, on race day anything can and will happen. So in a perfect world for now I will say I want to be sub 11, as time goes on and I get back in better shape and drop these many extra lbs, then maybe I will step out a little further on the plank and be more daring with my goals. |

My bf and I started it on Valentine's Day (yeah, we're romantic) and followed it religiously for 3 months. We both lost weight (I'm smaller than I was in high school now) and toned up a lot. You can get super fit without being gross skinny. It's great for men and women. Eating clean is super important. I found that I didn't care for the yoga DVD and I prefer to run or bike for cardio. It's so awesome I've incorporated it into my training. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck! |

Regular 288 Doylestown, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I know quite a few people who have tried p90x. All of them had success with the program to varying degrees. Difficult workouts for those who aren't at all in shape. You will most likely add muscle - just something to be aware of since if you are fit you might actually gain weight through the program. All-in-all I've heard its a great program to get "beach fit" but won't do much to help you with a 6 hour bike ride. For goals... mine is to finish and to be able to walk afterwards ... preferably not DFL. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Search the topic and you will find that CEP/Zoot compression socks have pretty solid support on here and slowtwitch.I recognize that compression itself is debatable for activity but more supported for recovery. I still like to wear my CEPs for training and racing the long course. |

Veteran 262 Clarksvile | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread trinitwit - 2010-09-01 5:04 PM When should I start training for this thing? Good question, I used the BTer 20wk training plan for my 70.3. They have a beginner full ironman that looks good and makes it pretty much a no brainer on what you should be doing. The plan is also 20 weeks long so you can load your plan to start exactly 20 wks out from IMCDA. The first 8 wks are pretty much the base period then remainder is your build phase and finally peak week. Prior to my 20 wk training plan I spent learning how to do triathlons and spent most of my time becoming proficient in biking and swimming, so basically I did a pre base period prior to starting my actual training plan. For example if you’re a week swimmer go find a class to become a better swimmer so when you start your 20 wk training program your able to actually do a swim workout . I use the CEP running socks, which was based on my small group of friends who are experienced tri-athletes and all love the CEP socks. HAPPY TRAINING! Edited by tribean 2010-09-03 9:04 AM |

I will have the same goals that I have for every tri I have done - that being: 1: Pass at least one person 2: Don't come in last 3: Don't Die I will add at least one other goal for this and that is to lose the 20 pounds I've gained since completing my first IM this May at St. George. One of my favorite parts of St. George was getting to know other Ironpeeps along the way. I'm looking forward to following everyone's training and learning from everyone! |
