I am sure there was some crazy, hidden meaning in her message that I am just not smart enough to detect.

In the real world "hi" would work just fine.  But in the online dating world....wait, I'm having deja vu'...

Starting to wonder if I'm not in the right mindset to date right now.
Instead of being excited to see a text with a guy asking me out, I'm like "uugh - really?"

Yeah.

Or maybe it's just the guys I'm meeting.

How's everyone else fairing these days?

That doesn't sound like a good mindset.

I, on the other hand, have a date tonight and a date on Friday - 2 different guys, both first dates. And, I will most likely see that other guy that I've had a couple of dates with at a birthday party on Saturday. Not a bad week.

I fell off this thread for a bit, but I'll report in.  For about a month now I've been giving eHarmony a whirl, and I've actually had moderate success with it.  There's one girl that I've gone out with a couple of times that seems to be promising.

Online dating has definitely been interesting.  It gives you a chance to meet people that you would never have a chance of meeting otherwise.

Uggg I hate being asked out over text! I never meet anyone unless there has been a phone call...if you can't have a conversation on the phone I'm guessing in person may not be much better.

Online dating is odd....can someone please explain what the  point of a "wink" is on Match!?

Hey everyone, I just signed up on this site yesterday and noticed this thread, kinda cool.  I am 31 single, live alone (with my dog Rhys) and have a professional career.

I would like to find that special someone but it has been difficult in the past to balance work/life/relationship, my training takes a big chunk of time out of my week, my hobbies take another big chunk of time and then there is my career!  I imagine when I find the right girl I will figure out a way to make the balance work!  That said my past couple relationships have ended due to a perceived lack of commitment due to everything else in my life.  I would love a lady's point of view on this, am I too selfish or do I need to date more independent women?????

I think we'd need more details to judge that at all.  But I don't think it's selfish.  I think sometimes people that don't have major hobbies don't seem to understand that it can take a lot of time and its nothing negative about the person that you're dating.

I think I'm in a similar situation, I'm a grad student so spend a lot of time in lab, then training for an IM on top of that.  At this point I wouldn't put up with someone who took it as a personal offense if I have training or a race that I have to do instead of go out, however, I do try to make time as much as possible.  I usually warn people to just give me a heads up and I'll see what I can do to fit everything in.  And I wouldn't take it as an insult the other way too, I think someone being passionate about something is a very attractive quality.  So I guess my point is that you probably just haven't found the right person yet; there are athletic women out there who understand!

Also, my update is that this thread hasn't been completely unsuccessful...

Hard to make the call with this amount of data. It sounds like you have a life of your own and the question really is, do you have (or want to make) space in that life for a woman. And, what are you really looking for? I think as long as you're honest about what you have to offer, no harm no foul.

Oh, and update from last night - the guy showed up in a suit. Which some of you would love, I know. Not my thing. He was nice, though. And, we talked easily. I'm undecided....

Not much really happening for me lately, but then again I haven't really tried meeting anybody.  My friends from Chicago have been trying to get me to move back lately, and I told them the only reason I'd ever move back (or anywhere else for that matter) was for a girl, so they've already set me up with 2 dates when I go back for two weeks in July.  Not putting much faith in it, but they're cute as hell and should at least be a fun time!

I am digging OKC much better than match.  Wasn't having much luck there at first, changed my profile and BAM - I'm 2 for 3!  Emailed 3 women, received 2 replies.  The first - we had to cancel our first date (but the rain check is still dangling out there) - the 2nd, for our first date this Sunday, we are going on a 10 mile hike.  She's into Mtn Biking, Rock Climbing, Mtn Climbing, Camping etc.  She's younger than me, and into the outdoors and she's adventurous.  Sure hoping for a little chemistry this time, and hoping that she's not 30 lbs heavier than any of her pictures (like the last date was).

My favorite is girls that have pics of them hiking/climbing a mountain/running a race, etc and their profile makes them look, and they even state that they ARE ACTIVE, and then you meet them, and start talking, and the pics were from the ONE time they did that activity like 2 years ago, and never want to do those activities when I bring them up.  Am I the only one that this happens to?  The closest I've gotten is little babies that whine 10 minutes into starting a hike (seriously, this has happened at least 6-7 times that I can think of).

As for the second part...WHY DO THEY DO THAT?!?  Don't they realize that they're setting up guys to think they look different than they actually do, and then be disappointed when you meet?  And then they complain because all the guys they meet are jerks and don't call them back...oh wait...self confidence issues...we all have them, no excuse!

This goes both ways.  The number of guys that I met on-line that lied about their height, weight and/or activity level still astounds me.  Did they somehow think that I wouldn't notice that they're actually 5'7" (and shorter than me) instead of the 'listed' height of 6'0"?

Too funny - It does crack me up how many women think walking to their car makes them active.

Guys fudge their profiles too?  Shocker That cracks me up though - the height? What kind of a dumb a** lies about his height?

I have shown up and the guy was at least 15 years older than his profile pic!  NOt cool

Also funny how many girls list their body type as "athletic" who are nothing more than skinny.  Sorry ladies, skinny body and athletic body are NOT the same thing!!!

And I know that guys do the same thing haha I just was saying the experience that I've had...which doesn't include guys.  Just funny how both sides lie on a website hoping you won't notice the completely different person that shows up!
